SavannahThis town ain’t big enough for the two of us.Which is why I left.I was determined never to return to Hale, Texas. But when my new life in the Big Apple throws me a curve ball, I have to go back to tie up loose ends. One of those being him.Jason Whitney was my first everything. Kiss, love, epic heartbreak. He shattered my world once upon a time, and apparently, he’s not done yet. With old … and apparently, he’s not done yet.
With old demons lurking around every corner, hightailing it out of my hometown is at the top of my list. Complete my unfinished business, and I get to leave any memory of my country existence behind.
Only, with each day I spend in it, with each moment I spend with him, I’m turning back into the girl who laid in the tall grass and swam in the creek all those years ago.
And I’m not sure that who I was is ready to let me go again.
Jason
We drew a line down the middle, and neither of us has crossed it.
That is, until Savannah Reese blew back into our hometown.
The day my high school sweetheart left, she took my whole heart with her. We promised each other forever, made plans that only teenagers could believe in, and crashed and burned on the grandest of scales.
When Savannah last saw me, I was a disgraced high school athlete. All washed up, I took it out on the only person who loved me. Then her world really fell apart, and I was too selfish to care.
Now she’s back, ready to sell the only remaining thing tying us to each other. I’ve been breaking my back for the last ten years not to think about her, not to be reminded of the love we shared.
But now that she’s right here, it’s impossible to forget how we used to be. Or let go of what we still are.

5 FOREVER LOVE STARS!! You know that first love….well Carrie Aarons takes us back to our high school days. I absolutely loved Savannah and Jason’s story from the first page to the end. Their story will touch every part of your heart, with all the feels. Looking for a great quick read to escape reality….this is your book.
Aarons wrote us a sweet tale of heartache, lost dreams, and what happens when you take a step back to find your true self. Jason faced the loss of the future he had planned for not only himself but with the woman he loved. All that he had been planned crashed and burned, leaving him to try to figure out how to move forward as a different Jason. At the same time, Savannah was thrust into a similar situation. She didn’t know how to handle her future and her past dissolving and disappearing so quickly. So she did the only thing she knew to do. She put herself first and ran far away.
But you know what happens when you leave loose ends in your past? They have a way of making themselves known in the present, sometimes altering the course of your future. And thus Savannah found herself back home. However, to quote Thomas Wolfe, “You can never go home again.” Life moves on, “home” changes, and life lends you a different perspective. This is where we meet Jason and Savannah again. And this is when Savannah remembers what really matters in life. This is where she finds the family she left behind, and it’s here that she remembers what it felt like to be truly loved. The crux of the issue remains as to whether this is enough.
Aarons writes about incredible hometown love with all the feels, one that shows us how love can evolve and grow. Come fall in love with the way these two loved each other.
Wow Carrie Aaron’s did an amazing job with this one. She brought heart and emotion to this addictive must read. Soon as I started I was completely hooked and didn’t put it down until it was finished. If like me you love the film Sweet Home Alabama then you will absolutely love this one.
Savannah and Jason were high school sweethearts. They loved each other hard and fast until the world tipped everything upside down and stopped their dreams from coming true. Instead of working through it together Jason dived into depression and Savannah run off to New York and didn’t look back. 10 years later she is forced to come back into town and face the family and demons she left behind.
The chemistry between these two was off the charts hot and palpable not matter how much Savannah wanted to deny it. I honestly loved the self refelection she went through as she started to realise she wasn’t really living, she was surviving, that home really is where the heart is.
Well done Carrie Aarons on another great read.
So much angst! I loved it! Savannah and Jason were teenage sweethearts until their world was upended. Savannah had to escape it all and follow her own dreams when Jason’s fell apart. The world she lives in now is so vastly different than the one she left but where is home? I really didnt know which way this would go. The dreams they both have now in the present are polar opposite of each other. Savannah is firmly rooted in New York amd Jason in Texas. The road they travel is forked in all directions but can it come back together?
4.5 For this second chance romances!
This follows Savannah and Jason who were high school sweethearts and now everything has changed. Savannah returns back home to Texas after having facing some problems in New York. After she is gone for 10 years she returns to the small town, where she has to face Jason again. Their book was all the feels, seeing the way Jason truly loved Savannah made my heart melt! Their connection was so undeniable, even though they seemed like complete opposites on a lot of occasions. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Savannah’s in the beginning but as the story and their love progressed she did really grow on me. This is a really emotional and romantic read and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a really good second chance romance with great side characters!
That’s the Way I Loved You is somewhat familiar. High school sweethearts in a small town, destined to live their happily ever after. But when life throws curve balls you did not see coming, sometimes it is easier to steal your base and run. But this story has Savannah running home for a reason she never saw coming. Her past comes at her full force and she has no choice but to face it and hope there will be forgiveness. Jason has waited for Savvy to come back. His heart melted mine. He was destroyed by the events that happen to him but the one person who buried him alive was his Darlin’.
Beautiful story to read this summer. My two passions are blended perfectly in That’s the Way I Loved You. Southern life described to perfection and baseball is right there front and center. Grab this story now and enjoy the escape.
A fabulous second-chance romance with yummy characters! Savannah is a gal after my heart. Strong, sassy, stubborn and someone goes after what they want. A series of horrible events left her reeling and she ran…all the way to NYC. That’s a lot for a small town girl with only her dreams to get her through the rough times. But she did it! After ten years she has her dream job, a dream boyfriend and looking at an Upper East side penthouse. Stop the horses! Savvy’s old life is coming back to bite her in the behind. She’s forced back to go back to her small home town to take care of an old problem with her old boyfriend. Oh, Jason! The boy she left behind turned into a studly man perfection. Gone is the broken boy with the broken dreams but he still has a broken heart. Even after ten years he hasn’t moved on. He’s waiting for Savvy to come home to him. These two are scorching hot soulmates that are still best friends with a connection is still strong even after ten years apart. Savvy reconnects with her family and friends and soon it’s like old times as she and Jason work to repair their cabin to sell so she can go back to her life in NYC. Jason’s got other plans though. He plans on showing her that they belong together. The emotion and angst as Savvy realizes her heart will always belong to Jason even if she’s not willing to give up her life in the big city is heart wrenching. She also needs to deal with old family hurts and wounds. Jason has turned his life around and become a successful winery owner. It seems impossible for these two to be together when both have lives and work in different time zones. The only issue I have with the story is the handling of the winery/vineyard especially the idea that nothing goes on in the winter. Unless you’re familiar with the wine business you wouldn’t notice the discrepancies and it really didn’t effect my enjoyment of this swoon-worthy romance. I loved the small town atmosphere and wonderful family and friends in the story. This author always gives us scrumptious characters and a heart-melting romance and this one is terrific. A must read! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
I absolutely adored this story! It is an emotion filled second chance small town romance. I really like the influence of Sweet Home Alabama (one of my favorite movies) on their story. Jason and Savannah are high school sweethearts that had all their plans go up in smoke following two tragedies within a month right after graduation. Savvy takes off for the New York to follow her dreams leaving Jason behind. Flash forward 10 years and she is forced to head back to her small town and face Jason. They are forced to face their past and discover the love is still there. This will give you all the feels and leave you with a happy heart.
This is a small town romance with all the feels and was packed with so many emotions. I loved the feels in this read and it truly was like a salve for my heart. The characters were so endearing and charming and just the whole story line had that incredible Sweet Home Alabama feel to it but so much more.

I love the way Carrie Aarons writes small town romance and throw in a second chance, makes it even better. Savannah and Jason had a chemistry that time apart couldn’t diminish. This story was so entertaining…loved every word. I could totally see this as a movie!
That’s The Way I Loved You by Carrie Aarons is an EPIC second chance romance and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
4.5 loved it stars!
I just loved, loved That’s the Way I Loved You by Carrie Aarons. An emotional second chance romance with all the feels. High school sweethearts, Jason and Savannah loved each other deeply and thought they were forever, until they weren’t. Savannah left, but now she is back, but she intends to take care of business and leave again. But as soon as they meet again, the chemistry they share is undeniable.
I loved Jason. He was caring and compassionate and just so determined once he set his mind to something. Savannah was strong and just as determined. She was left hurt after what happened between them. I loved their back and forth and watching them fall. I absolutely loved reading That the Way I Loved You by Carrie Aarons. Such a great a story with amazing characters.
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
Wow, what a beautiful story! I was swept away by these two and I loved every second.
Sweet Home Alabama is one of my favorite movies of all time and I’ve never read a book that has similar vibes but without being too similar. That is, until I read this story! I loved every single second of this story and even after reading, these characters are still with me.
Jason and Savannah have a lot to overcome. Watching them reconnect, and seeing the chemistry and love that truly still burns between, them was beautiful to see. Their past mistakes make for an emotional roller coaster, slow burn, second chance romance. I was their biggest fan, cheering for them to work through everything and find a way to their happily ever after.
This was such a beautiful second chance love story and it will be one of my top favorites for a long time. A must read!
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
I just loved how real this book was! The characters were real, with real people problems and real people lives. And I love just how truly southern it was! (It really felt like the author knew what it is like living in the south!) It’s definitely one that resonates with my little Southern Heart!
Savannah is one of those girls. She’s had her own set of problems that lead to her leaving everything behind and heads for the big city lights. When life and circumstances lead her back to her home town, the one she left behind is suddenly right there in front of her, and she has to rethink all of those decisions she made so long ago.
Jason loved Savannah with everything he had, until his world blew up, and in the process of loosing everything, he lost her too. When she comes back to town, he remembers how good it was, how perfect it was, and is determined to remind her of the good times!
This book is full of the charm and hospitality that the South is known for! What is that saying? You can take the girl out of the South, but you can’t take the South out of the girl?!? This book definitely proves that. Savannah’s years in the city could not take her heart away from her home town, no matter how hard she tried. And Jason was just the perfect Southern male to show her that! This book felt like coming home!
Carrie Aarons made my heart skip a beat and I didn’t even see it coming. That’s the Way I Loved You was perfect, I seriously could not put this book down for a second, I went into this book expecting to love it, but I just loved it way more than I thought I would.
Savannah comes back into a town she never thought she would return to, when she left she left her family, friends, and the guy she loved. So when she drives back into town she has now idea what will happen. Jason was everything, I seriously loved him beyond words. When he see’s Savannah arrive back to town, his life turns upside down.
I loved this book so much, it gave me ALL THE FEELS!!!! This has to be my favorite book by Carrie so far, I just didn’t want it to ever end.
That’s the Way I Loved You by Carrie Aarons is a standalone contemporary romance set in a small town, filled with second chances, redemption and growth. Jason Whitney and Savannah Reese were childhood sweethearts until his baseball career was ended by injury before it even began. Then, something even worse happened to Savannah right on the heels of their future crashing and burning. So with him being bitter and broken and her not wanting to deal or feel, she packed her stuff up and left for New York, chasing her dream. Ten years later, she made it. She is a successful write for a prime time drama and has the Wall Street man on her arm. But when their attempt at purchasing a fancy apartment in the city is brought to a jarring halt due to her credit score thanks to a shack she & Jason bought in her hometown in Texas being in pre-foreclosure, Savannah has no choice but to return to a town she all but forgot about in her desire to bury everything deep. And that is when things get JUICY! Ten years is a long time to avoid (Savannah) and stew (Jason). When they finally are in the same room together after all that time, you can almost feel the tension in the room oozing from the pages. The pain, the heartache, the loss, it is all palpable in the beautiful story of second chances and small towns. Loved it! Enjoy!
Oh, Jason, Jason, Jason. This guy was my absolute favorite thing about this book! He made his mistakes, owned up to them, and went above and beyond to reach redemption. When it came to Savannah, I admit that I had my reservations because when she left, she burned her bridges with everyone who mattered to her, and it never really felt like she regretted it all that much in the decade that she was away in New York. I get why she felt the need to leave, and I even understand why she chose to not reach out to Jason, but to the point that she froze out her family? Yeah, that gave me pause. I do like, though, that the author made her relationship with her current boyfriend, Perry, one that had some genuine care and respect. Naturally, the opening was there for her to contemplate that maybe what she had with him wasn’t all that, but thank goodness he wasn’t painted as some villain who treated Savannah terribly. Carrie Aarons creative touches made this story stand out from other second-chance romances set in a small town, and I truly did enjoy reading That’s the Way I Loved You. This gets four stars.
That’s the Way I Loved You is the story of Savannah and Jason and i just have to say that if you love second chance romance like I DO, you need to read this book!! Is the perfect and sweet second chance romance about a couple who they have meet when they were young but some very difficult situations in their life that makes them to take differents way. Savannah left her hometown and she thought it was for forever, until so many years later she has to go back and try to fix something but that will change her life forever because she sees Jason again and her feelings are back and more powerful.
I dont want to say so much about the story, but if you really enjoy to read a perfect second chance romance where the guy is waiting for her lady no matter how many years and then he has to show her that they are perfect for each other. you need to grab this book.
I have loved Carrie Aarons’ books since I first read Red Card several years ago. Now here I am and I’m still following her and obsessing over her stories. Carrie Aarons has an incredible talent that doesn’t stay within the constraints on genre boundaries. However, her small town, southern romances are books that I can’t ever get enough of. Jason and Savannah have this amazing relationship. I mean, Jason, he’s the type of book boyfriend that author’s strive to create. He’s amazing! He has this honest and incredibly strong heart and it seems to beat only for Savannah. Lord can Aarons create some men!
That’s the Way I loved You is everything readers want in a small town romance. I definitely recommend this story. It is packed with emotions, with so much heart; it’s an emotional story that plays those heart strings like a harp. This is one of those books where you feel the presence of an everlasting love. They both ache for each other when they’re apart and their love was gorgeous when they were together! Really, I can’t complain about this story!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Jason and Savannah have a deep, true love that gives you a warm feeling; until it doesn’t. “Everyone said we were crazy, and hell, we were. Crazy in love, about each other, and just about every other shade of crazy under the sun.” When deep hurts on both sides cause Savannah to run away from him and their small, Texas town-it is 10 years before they see each other again. This story gives them time to grow, heal and become successful in their new lives without each other. It is a success not seen in many books. When they reconnect, they are better versions of their teen selves, but with the same stubbornness and passion that defined their relationship a decade earlier.
I loved this story in that it made the characters fight their way back to each other. They don’t sugar coat their feelings or their desires to hold on to the past love they shared while reveling in the present they have fought to shape. Carrie Aarons has created strong characters who know how to set roots and grow wings as they mature. Beautifully written with characters you can identify with on a personal level, this is a book well worth reading.
