SavannahThis town ain’t big enough for the two of us.Which is why I left.I was determined never to return to Hale, Texas. But when my new life in the Big Apple throws me a curve ball, I have to go back to tie up loose ends. One of those being him.Jason Whitney was my first everything. Kiss, love, epic heartbreak. He shattered my world once upon a time, and apparently, he’s not done yet. With old … and apparently, he’s not done yet.
With old demons lurking around every corner, hightailing it out of my hometown is at the top of my list. Complete my unfinished business, and I get to leave any memory of my country existence behind.
Only, with each day I spend in it, with each moment I spend with him, I’m turning back into the girl who laid in the tall grass and swam in the creek all those years ago.
And I’m not sure that who I was is ready to let me go again.
Jason
We drew a line down the middle, and neither of us has crossed it.
That is, until Savannah Reese blew back into our hometown.
The day my high school sweetheart left, she took my whole heart with her. We promised each other forever, made plans that only teenagers could believe in, and crashed and burned on the grandest of scales.
When Savannah last saw me, I was a disgraced high school athlete. All washed up, I took it out on the only person who loved me. Then her world really fell apart, and I was too selfish to care.
Now she’s back, ready to sell the only remaining thing tying us to each other. I’ve been breaking my back for the last ten years not to think about her, not to be reminded of the love we shared.
But now that she’s right here, it’s impossible to forget how we used to be. Or let go of what we still are.

ENG ::
This second chance romance has a nice story, one that reminded me a little bit the “Sweet Home Alabama” movie with Reese Witherspoon.
The main characters… the girl, Savannah, I confess I didn’t love her. I liked many things she expressed and identified with how she felt but she was not my favorite at all.
Jason was the character that I felt did the more growing as a person. He was the one that seemed to wanted things to work between them (and he had to, because he had a very jerky moment in the past).
The HEA is very nice and the best of all, I discovered this author and will definitely be reading more of her books!
Small town romances are not usually my thing. HOWEVER. If Aarons writes it, I will read it, and here we are.
Sweet Home Alabama has nothing on Savannah & Jason. This is such a refreshing down home, second chance romance.
Savannah has a plan for her life. But of course, with a plan, there are obstacles. Unfinished business in the town she fled 10 years ago forces her to go back and fix it all so she can move forward with her life.
Jason has a plan too. His plan has nothing to do with hers, except maybe to prevent the girl he loves from leaving him behind in the dust.
I love when characters know they’ve done wrong, and try to resolve it. I also love when they want to bury their heads in the sand and pretend it never happened. This had both.
Things I absolutely loved: the family aspect. In the south, family plays such a huge role in the day to day, and the fact that Savannah hasn’t been around hers in 10 years, breaks my heart. However, a little bit of time with her brother and sisters and nieces and nephews fixes that real quick.
‘ , .’
Jason and his utter devotion to loving the girl that got away. Even trying to help her do what will ultimately send her away again, back to her other life.
‘ . .’
Ultimately, I absolutely loved this. Lots of lessons hidden, tons of wisdom pearls planted between these covers. Absolutely recommend.
That’s The Way I Loved You is a one that got away second chance romance. Sweet and filled with longing, this story has a bit of nostalgia and a while lot of regret.
Learning to own up to mistakes and vowing to never do them again is Jason’s motivation. Savvy is jot just the one who got away but his one and only. He NEEDS to show her eveeything. Make her feel and see him.
It’s sweet and easy to root for this couple.
Carrie’s twist on Sweet Home Alabama made for an amazing read.
Savannah has done big for herself every since she left Hale, TX in New York City, she has success and a boyfriend but her past comes back to interrupt her life. She has stayed away from Hale TX for 10 yrs but now she is back to settle an old matter and get back to NYC. Jason has been in love with Savannah for ever, he has worked hard to prove himself worthy of Savannah only she never came back. Now that they have to work together to move forward will it be together or separately. LOVED IT
I loved this one. I was hooked from beginning to end. Savannah left Hale, Texas and never looked back until now. Everything is going great for her in New York City but there is a wrench in her plan and she forced to go back to Hale and fix things. She has a past with Jason. They were high school sweethearts but now she dreads seeing him. I so was hooked and wanted to know what happened to them and why she left town. They have both grown since Savannah left. She doesn’t want to like Jason but connection is sill there. Jason is sweet and nice and doesn’t want to let his change o win Savannah back go. Savannah has a lo to deal with. She has to work on the issues of the past and while as present time stuff. I really loved these two together and they had a great story.
4.5 Stars
I really enjoyed this book. I love the Sweet Home Alabama feel to it. I loved watching Savannah fall in love with her hometown again. This book pulls at your heartstrings. The back story of Jason and Savannah pulls you right into the and got me a little teary eyed. I love books set in small towns. This book has plenty of heart and second chances. I would highly recommend this book. It’s a make you feel good romance and right now I think everyone could use some of that.
FIVE STARS for Savannah and Jason !!!
I love this book so much!
“That’s the Way I Loved You” is an emotional and beautifully written second chance romance book with amazing characters and love that everyone wants in their life.
This book gave me all the feels and couldn’t get enough of Savannah and Jason’s love story.
If you’re looking for a second chance romance, then you should read this book!
“We’re us. You want me to say you’re the one? You’re the one, of course you are. Even after all these years, you’re it.”
Savannah left her small town without looking back. Years later, she lives a completely different life in New York, with her dream job, a successful boyfriend and is about to buy a beautiful and expensive apartment together with him. But a small problem threatens her new future and will make her revisit her past.
Jason saw his dreams fall apart in the blink of an eye. More painful than losing his career, was losing the woman of his life. Even young, he knew she was the right person for him. And after so many years, he still hasn’t forgotten her. But he never expected to see her back in town again.
A house falling apart. Two people with a common past and unspoken things. Heartache and a lot of tension. And a chemistry that is still present. The stay in Hale, Texas will be turbulent to say the least.
With a narrative that reminded me of the movie Sweet Home Alabama, when Savannah left, she left behind much more than just her ex. Her family, friends, home, everything was in the background. As much as she has reinvented herself, perhaps her new version is not as happy as she thought. And facing her ghosts will be inevitable to move on.
Jason had his share of guilt, he hit rock bottom, but he managed to create a new future for himself. The house is the only link he still shares with the woman he loves. Trying to make her remember the good parts will be his strategy to win her back. And who knows, maybe make her stay.
A beautiful second chance novel, with a well-written couple, who suffered a lot, but who learned to move on and find out what really matters. Merging the two worlds was a good solution, with neither giving up their lives, but rather incorporating the two realities in this journey as a couple.
A love story set in a small town, with its characteristic residents, interesting landscapes, a small house as a witness and many memories to top it off.
Another fantastic story from Carrie Aarons! I love a good second chance at love story and that’s definitely what we get with Savannah and Jason, high school sweethearts who split in the wake of tragedies not long after graduation, and that split had Savannah going to New York and Jason staying in their hometown. I loved seeing how they changed over the decade they were apart, and even in spite of that long split, the chemistry was still just as hot as ever once they were back in the same orbit.
I really enjoyed this modern day Sweet Home Alabama! Jason and Savannah were childhood sweethearts that everyone thought would marry but life threw them a curveball …. ten years later unforeseen circumstances bring them together again and it’s clear the feelings are still there! This small town romance has all the feels!
Southern second chance romance.
Jason and Savannah both made mistakes that doomed their young love as teen adults. This was a good story although I wasn’t really invested in either character. I felt Savannah was over-dramatic and while she was dealing with a great loss and Jason was definitely an a** before she left – ten years seems like a long time to leave your family behind.
As with all second chance romances – there are bridges to be made, then loosened, then put back together again.
This was a fairly quick read and a good story with frustrating characters – probably sums it up best for me.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
If you love the movie Sweet Home Alabama, you’ll love That’s the Way I Loved You. Ready yourself for some sexual tension, the heartbreak of first love and family tragedy, as well as a little bit of swoon for a second chance romance. If you’ve read and enjoyed any of Carrie Aarons books, you’ll enjoy this one as well. I reccomend picking it up today.
“Once you fall in love, no matter what age, that never really stopped if it was the one true person you were supposed to be with.”
When I saw the comment from the author that this story is similar to Sweet Home Alabama, I was hooked. Honestly, just knowing the author I knew I would love it. This book was heartfelt, emotional, but fun. It was about reunion, forgiveness and personal growth.
Suzanne ran from Hale at age 18. Ten years later, she finds that she has to go back to complete some unfinished business. Ten years of hiding. Of not seeing her family. Of not seeing her former friends.
Jason has lived in Hale his whole life. Even with no biological family left. He had a couple years of a very rough patch, but has turned his life around. But what will happen when his high school sweetheart returns to Hale?
I really enjoyed this story. I read it in about 24 hours! It was fun, funny, but heartfelt too. The characters were great! I loved all of Hale! Thanks, Carrie Aarons for wonderful story!
That’s the Way I Loved you is a second-chance, small town romance. It follows Savannah and Jason, childhood sweethearts from a small town in Texas. A couple of tragedies soon after graduation send Savannah chasing her dreams to NYC while nursing a broken heart, and Jason left alone in Hale. Unfinished business brings Savannah back ten years later, and this time Jason is not going to let her leave without a fight.
I love Carrie’s writing, and she really excels in small town romance (see: the Nash Brothers series and my personal favorite, The Tenth Girl). TTWILY is a love letter to small town living with big city dreams, family, and finding a way to have it all. It’s definitely an homage to Sweet Home Alabama, and it’s done very well. It’s sweet and charming, and you really root for Savannah and Jason to recognize how well they fit together, and that they’re meant to be.
I loved this fresh adaptation of Sweet Home Alabama (one of my favorite movies!)
This is the story of Savannah and Jason. Childhood sweethearts, young love and soulmates. When some drastic things change their world, Savanah feels like she can only run away to escape the feelings.
Ten years and unfinished business bring Savannah back to Hale, Texas…and then the sparks and memories fly between Jason and her.
I loved how the chemistry between Jason and Savvy jumps off the pages. Ms. Aarons has a way of writing her characters that really bring the reader into the hearts and minds of the world she creates.
I also enjoyed how Savannah stuck to her guns and kept her career to the forefront of her needs and was able to let Jason know that she wouldn’t sacrifice a job she loved for anything. I love how Jason was able to see to Savannah’s needs and wants and how both of them worked hard to a compromise that was beneficial to both.
I always get excited when a new Carrie Aarons story comes out and this was no exception!
Family, love and coming home again are what makes this story great!
I love second chance romances and that is what pushed this read from three stars to four.
The story was decent and well written, but I imagined Reese Witherspoon often while reading. Because so much of this screamed Sweet Home Alabama. Which is fine. There was enough different in the story to make it not the same, but still similar enough.
Savannah’s character bothered me. She ran away from a boy and left her family? That rubbed me the wrong way.
And Jason? He should have given up on her… but alas he has a secret business that he will use to show Savannah his success. That way she will come back for him. Right?
As much as I love second chances, I felt like I’d already taken part in this one over ten years ago.
Second chance romance is not only one of my favorite tropes, but I love when the characters are much older and wiser. And this isn’t one of those “we had a one night stand and now we are reunited after many years” kind of second chance romance. This is a “we were high school sweethearts who everyone thought were going to get married” second chance romance. So yeah, they are a lot of feelings involved and a lot of serious issues that need to be worked out.
Savannah and Jason were the couple that everyone thought would live happily ever after. Unfortunately for them, life had another idea. But now Savannah is back in town and Jason is the person who holds all the cards.
It’s very clear from the moment these two see each other that they still have feelings for the other person. As I kept reading, it became very clear that Savannah and Jason never got any closure to their relationship. She up and left town with out looking back and the only way they were going to move past things, was to actually deal with the past.
Savannah not only left Jason, but she also left her family. There is this great secondary storyline about Savannah reconnecting with her family that gave the “second chance” theme of the book a lot more meaning. This book is an emotional read that will leave you completely satisfied.
Savannah and Jason are the perfect small town couple getting their second chance at romance. They both were meant to be bigger and move away from their small town, but fate had other plans and knocked them off their perfect path for about ten years! Due to circumstances unforseen, fate also brought them back together. There is so much hurt and pain, but is there still love? Will they give up their new lives for each other? To be with each other?
This great story was romantic and had all the feels. I thought this was great because both lead characters showed vulnerability in their love. The small town setting was so cute and I felt like I was right there in the action.
I loved this book! Savannah and Jason’s love story is one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever read!
I fell in love with these characters right from the start. I loved more than anything how real, flawed and honest they are. Their chemistry, that connection between them and banter was everything! Even when they were fighting you could feel that there was so much love between them, I couldn’t get enough of them together.
The way Jason loves Savannah… gah! His love for her is one of the most beautiful things I’ve read about! He is definitely book boyfriend material,I was swooning over him all the time.
This is the second book I read by Carrie Aarons and she is slowly becoming one of my favorite authors. I’m in awe of her writing style. I know that I will be reading her older books and I’m already impatient to see what she has next in store for us.
That’s The Way I Loved You was beautiful, real and emotional read. It was unputdownable and so,so good! I honestly cannot recommend it more!
“You’re so in love that you act insane
And that’s the way I loved you”
I truely loved this story of Jason and Savannah.
Savannah as to return back home for unexpected reasons, and HAS to see Jason again. That was the last thing she wanted!!! She didn’t want to see him or talk to him but she HAD to. She had to finish this off.
Then Savannah can’t bring herself to just leave it all behind and decides to help Jason with the repairs of the house. She knows she’s getting too close, she’s getting too attached, again. But can she make the decision on whether staying back longer to get things sorted, or going back to her boyfriend in the big city and get that penthouse apartment they want. What does she do?
She can’t decide.
I really enjoyed their story and of course Carrie is an amazing author, and omg I love her stories. I couldn’t put this one down! AT ALL! I had to finish reading it to find out what happens.
I loved all the characters, HILARIOUS!
I loved the storyline, and how it all flowed. and of course the story of Savannah and Jason!! LOVED IT!
AND OMG THE WINERY’S NAME! I lost it! Cried like a baby!!!
My fave quotes from the book:
1. Seriously, someone fry it up on a griddle and just eat it, put me out of my misery. – LOL!
2. “Like the first time I ever saw her. Magical and fated. It’s how I always feel when I’m around her.”- SWOON MOMENT!
3. TO make her see that the reason she’s so incensed is because she should be with me, not him. – YES JAY!!!
