SavannahThis town ain’t big enough for the two of us.Which is why I left.I was determined never to return to Hale, Texas. But when my new life in the Big Apple throws me a curve ball, I have to go back to tie up loose ends. One of those being him.Jason Whitney was my first everything. Kiss, love, epic heartbreak. He shattered my world once upon a time, and apparently, he’s not done yet. With old … and apparently, he’s not done yet.
With old demons lurking around every corner, hightailing it out of my hometown is at the top of my list. Complete my unfinished business, and I get to leave any memory of my country existence behind.
Only, with each day I spend in it, with each moment I spend with him, I’m turning back into the girl who laid in the tall grass and swam in the creek all those years ago.
And I’m not sure that who I was is ready to let me go again.
Jason
We drew a line down the middle, and neither of us has crossed it.
That is, until Savannah Reese blew back into our hometown.
The day my high school sweetheart left, she took my whole heart with her. We promised each other forever, made plans that only teenagers could believe in, and crashed and burned on the grandest of scales.
When Savannah last saw me, I was a disgraced high school athlete. All washed up, I took it out on the only person who loved me. Then her world really fell apart, and I was too selfish to care.
Now she’s back, ready to sell the only remaining thing tying us to each other. I’ve been breaking my back for the last ten years not to think about her, not to be reminded of the love we shared.
But now that she’s right here, it’s impossible to forget how we used to be. Or let go of what we still are.

I adored this very emotional and powerful second chance romance, I fell in love with it within chapter 1 and I had to finish it in one sitting. Miss Aarons has a way with words that makes you read her books in one sitting. Also, I loved the fact that this story was inspired by one of my favorite movies, do yourself a favor and pick up this amazing story once it goes live!
This time Carrie Aarons brings us a second chance, enemies to lovers romance with a Sweet Home Alabama feel. This story played out like a movie, and if I had my way, it’d be turned into one!
Once upon a time Savannah and Jason were high school sweethearts with plans for a future together…they were each other’s everything until they weren’t. Ten years later, Savannah returns home after making a new life in New York, a life without Jason. We’re initially kept in the dark about what happened to their relationship and why she left, which definitely kept me flipping pages. It was apparent that these two still had some intense feelings for each other that’s masked by hate, but you know what they say about love and hate.
I was rooting for Savannah and Jason right from the start because I could just feel through Carrie’s words that they were meant to be together! Even when they were fighting, you could feel it. After all these years and everything that happened, Jason hadn’t given up on Savannah…on them, however she fights a love that was destined to be.
When a book ends and you find yourself sighing and unable to remove the goofy grin from your face, you know you hit romance gold!
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I love second chance romances. They are intense and raw and powerful, and this one was all of the above. That’s the Way I Loved You takes everything you love about second chances and blows them out of the water.
Savannah and Jason are electric and powerful in their own ways, each of them suffering from the past they once shared. It’s heartbreaking and soul-crushing.. but their past is also so intense, that when they meet up again, it’s like fireworks.
I cannot even put into words how much this book made me feel. Carrie delivered a compelling storyline that sucks you in from the moment you start, never letting you go. You are right there through all of the heartbreak and turmoil. You are crying with them, fighting for them, and on your knees begging for it all to work out.
Five stars for this heartbreakingly beautiful second chance romance that will definitely have you begging for more when it’s all said and done.
Second Chance With Everyone
At first it took my some time to get into That’s The Way I Loved You. I didn’t click with Savannah right away, but I kept reading and as she relaxed and her true self came I started to click with her.
That’s The Way I Loved You was a sweet read and I enjoyed Savannah reconnecting with Jason and her family.
**ARC provided for an honest review**
That’s the Way I Loved You is a new standalone by Carrie Aarons that was such a delight to read. This small town, second chance romance is absolutely lush with feels and characters who are so genuine and relatable. I absolutely adored it.
Savannah and her boyfriend are attempting to purchase a penthouse in New York that they’ve had their eye on for some time. In the process, she learns there is debt to her name from a house she once shared with her first love. Apparently he didn’t sell it and hasn’t paid on it in years. Furious, she storms back to her hometown in Texas to confront her past, but not everything goes quite like she planned.
Jason has spent the last ten years trying to get over Savannah. When she left town it broke his heart, but he never gave up hope that she would one day return to him. So when she strolls back into town he is thrilled, but it’s obvious that she does not feel the same. She is angry, wants the debt paid off and the house to be sold. He agrees to sell if she will help him fix up the place first. But working side by side, day after day, those old feelings soon reignite.
This was one heck of a beautiful romance loaded with heart, soul and southern charm. I loved seeing Savannah reconnect with her roots and find herself once again. I love how Jason never gave up on her after all of that time. The romance between these two was sizzling from the start, and I simply could not get enough of them. Five stars for Savannah, Jason and That’s the Way I Loved You!
Savannah and Jason’s story is a beautifully written tale which is an emotional roller coaster throughout. I love small town 2nd chance romance stories, and this gifted author has given her heart and soul into penning this story, which is a heartfelt and all-consuming romance which had me totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner. I highly recommend for all readers.
This was a very swoon worthy second chance romance. Seeing Savannah and Jason work through everything that brought them to where they were was beautiful to unfold. There were some great ah ha moments for both characters. Seeing them develop through the story was really great as well. As they grew up essentially even though they were adults. The chemistry was very undeniable. Then you have the banter! OH the back and forth between these two. While Savannah got on my nerves at times because of her attitude, seeing her character evolve made it completely worth it. If you love a sweet small down second chance romance, this one’s for you!
Jay and Savvy made my heart happy.
That’s the Way I Loved You by Carrie Aarons is a warm-hearted, swoony, slightly angsty, slow-burning zinger of a story. It’s one you can’t help falling in love with. I know I did. From the opening pages until the last word, I was reading this with a happy smile on my face.
Jason and Savannah meet up again even though they fight and curse, it’s as if no time has passed. They’re not perfect, but from the outset, it’s clear to see that they are perfect for each other. Their love is undiminished and Jason, for one, wants to get back to how they were before. The connection is still there, the sexy banter and angsty fights just prove it. As does the lingering looks and oh… those stolen kisses.
Jason is the swooniest of book boyfriends and he can be mine any day he pleases, lol. Savannah is lucky to have him and we’re all lucky that Carrie Aarons writes such fabulous characters. I’ve read quite a few books by this author, and this was one of my favorites so far.
This was a wonderful book from Carrie Aarons. A fantastic second-chance, small-town romance which ticks all of the boxes. Savannah and Jason were simply perfect.
When Savannah heads back to her home-town in order to tie up some loose ends before moving on with her high flying life in the city, she ends up needing to confront her past and try to put everything to bed once and for all. However, her plan doesn’t quite work and she ends up getting more than she expected once she runs into her ex-boyfriend Jason.
Jason has always felt guilty about the way things ended with Savannah 10 years ago. And when she appears back in town, he’s so happy to see her and wants to make amends for the past.
However Savannah certainly does not feel the same and simply wants to do what she came for and get back to her life in the city. She certainly doesn’t want to bring up the past again in the one place she doesn’t want to be.
Yet as always, things don’t necessarily go to plan. I loved these characters. Apart they were interesting characters with an intriguing past which binds them together. As a couple they are perfect. The secondary characters in this book are also fantastic, all playing an important part in the story.
A beautifully written page turner, with that sweet country vibe going on! Their journey was special and I didn’t want it to end. I loved it!
This book has been described as a play on the movie Sweet Home Alabama and I could definitely see some of the same themes throughout. Savannah and Jason were childhood sweethearts but life altering events had her flee to New York City. Flash forward 10 years and she’s back to clear an old debt and get back to NYC! She doesn’t anticipate what events can unfold in the small town of Hale, Texas and the impact they will have on her life moving forward.
Carrie does a wonderful job of character building in this small town romance. It was a quick, light read with romance and a tinge of angst.
Can I find a real life Johnny??!! I’m just saying! LOL! I loved this story about Savannah and Johnny. Johnny and Savvi have loved each other before they knew what love is. But things take a turn when something tragic happens that tears these two apart. Savannah is living her best life in New York. She has an amazing career and is finally going to move in with her boyfriend. Just one little snag though, there’s something she left behind back home that is not letting her move foreword.
This book is funny, a tearjerker and had me swooning. I rooted for Johnny from the beginning and wanted him and Savvi to work things out. This book is about second chances, letting things go and moving forward and it will tug at your heart. This book is so worth the read.
Prepare to cry big fat ugly tears!
Lord this story!
It was so beautifully written so emotional and tragic. Savvy was just but a young girl when everything she knew and loved just shattered. Her love for Jason when his hopes and dreams broke because of his accident and not being able to be there emotionally for Sav when she lost her dear mother. It was so emotional that I couldn’t help but cry. Savvy lost so much and all she could do was run, run away and make her dreams come true and she did she worked her butt off for ten years but then she had no choice but to go back.
Back to a life where everything and everyone was still the same but wasn’t, one where Jason was still there!
Excuse the jumbled mess but I’m still emotional!
Disclaimer I received an arc copy for an honest and voluntary review!
Amazing. Beautiful. Heart-wrenching. Jam packed with emotions. This book pulled at every single one of my heart strings in the absolute best way. Hands down I think this is my favorite Carrie Aarons book of all time.
Savannah Reese had moved on from her hometown, at least she thought she had. 10 years later she’s being forced to go back to Hale, Texas to tie up loose ends. Loose ends that bring her face to face with the boy who stole her heart so long ago, and never really gave it back.
Jason Whitney has loved Savannah since they were kids. She left in epic fashion and blew back into town much the same way. Jason still loves her, but he’s tried so hard to move past it, never quite succeeding. Now that she’s back old feelings are being brought to the surface, and this time he’s determined to fight for her, but will it be enough?
I absolutely love every single thing about this story. The characters, the plot, everything about this book was pure gold. Trust me when I say, this book is one that you won’t be able to put down. From the first to the last page this book had me enraptured. Jason and Savannah are the perfect storm, yet perfect for each other. This is a beautiful second chance romance that everyone needs to read!
This story had me feeling all the emotions throughout and I loved it all. It gave me a certain southern rom com movie vibe that’s one of my favorites, but it was different in its own ways. Savannah comes from Texas and at her true self she will always be a southern girl but after running away from terrible events of her life she is now a New Yorker and living the high life with her Wall Street boyfriend until circumstances bring her home to her past. Jason has been bitter for years waiting and hoping Savannah would come back to him, but after years he has almost giving up hope until he comes face to face with her and now he is determined to make her see him and Texas is where she belongs. Like I said it was emotional and I hated that they spent so much time apart when all they needed was a serious sit down conversation, but things and fate have a way of working out as they should. This is another hit by this author and a great read.
