One call. That’s all it took to change everything. The sweet voice on the other end of the line delivered a blow I never saw coming. Fighting for our country’s freedom and staring death in the eye was nothing compared to this news.History has one hell of a way repeating itself. Kate Wilson’s voice didn’t waver once as she turned my worst nightmare into a reality, and her words weaved a cruel … cruel poetic justice.
I hadn’t been back home in over two years. Once I pulled into the one-horse town, I was greeted by the gorgeous blonde.
Kate extended her hand and offered me a warm smile. The connection was made. The innocent beauty has no idea that she just flipped my life upside down.
She’d unearthed secrets that can never be buried.

This is not the first and won’t be the last time i read something by HJ Bellus. Heidi’s work is phenomenal and exciting, she likes to give you just an inch to keep you hooked till the very end and this book was no different. I could not put it down and I honestly do not know what I can say that will do this book any justice…
‘That was Yesterday’ is Max and Kate’s story. If you haven’t had a chance to read ‘Yesterday is Gone’ which is Jessie and Jules story I highly recommend it as it gives you inside to some of the important characters.
Max had a rough upbringing but he never let that keep him from succeeding in life, with the help from Jessie and Jules he was able to succeed at whatever he put his mind to, being a star college football player, A US Marine, even a dad…
Kate knew she had to help Finn and being the stubborn, sassy, kindhearted woman she is she didn’t stop even when her job was in jeopardy. Making the one phone call to Max that literally turned both their lives upside down.
Thank you Heidi for writing another successful and enjoyable book filled with Hot male Alpha-ness and an emotional roller coaster… I look forward to what you bring out next.
Fully Invested!
Max gets a call he never saw coming, he heads to a town he would never want to go to.
Kate has issues of her own as well, but she is able to help Max work through his issues. Kate is always there for Max when he really needs her. This book seriously made me feel everything! Loved reading this fast paced book!

How can I start a review without repeating myself? I can’t. I just can’t so I’m going to do the best I can.
For me, a good author is the one that hooked my heart and melted my soul with their words. It doesn’t matter the genre that they write, what really matters is if the story can talk to you. In that case you’re a goner… Trust me.
HJ Bellus is one of them. Her books are to die for and you will not be able to stop reading once you start it. Her writing is amazing, super detailed, with steamy scenes as well as heartbreaking. Just give her a chance and see for yourself.
Yesterday Is Gone is her latest release and tells the stories of Max and Kate.
Max had a horrible childhood that left its marks but not everything is bad because in the middle of the darkness you can always see the light but sometimes that light can be switched off.
Kate is the sweetest person in the world. Her heart is bigger than the world and she’s so kind that you will want to hold her. Being a kindergarten teacher is her vocation and when she sees one of her students needing help…
I’m stunned, overwhelmed, speechless and super happy. This book was so much more that I was hoping for
The plot is perfect, super engaging and detailed. Each scene was so perfectly described that it felt like I was inside the book right along with the characters.
It was impossible to stop Reading HJ’s because the way each chapter ended I had this urge to keep Reading non stop.
The interaction between the characters was super beautiful and it was amazing to see the way everything developed between them.
Love, loss, headache, betrayal, deceive, abuse are all the topics described in this book and I advise you to grab your copy and dig in. You will love them as much as I just did.
There were parts of the book that I wanted to slap someone but there were other that melted my heart and made me want to hold them.
And we have some hot stuff around the corner… Oh Jesus…
Oh HJ this book I’m amazing and I want more. Please tell me that Cody will have his own book? I need to know more…
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Max has fought hard for his life. He has overcome so many obstacles and still feels he is not worthy of things. Then comes the people in his life that will fight with him and show him he is so worthy.

No one can rip my heart out and put it back better than it was quite like HJ Bellus. That Was Yesterday was pulling at all my emotions right from the very start. I ugly cried, I swooned, I fell in love with every word of this book. I stayed up waaaaay too late totally hooked and I don’t regret a second of missed sleep. I loved this one so much I almost want to go back and read it again right now.
Max and Kate have one heck of a story, filled with ups and downs and emotion so powerful there’s no way you won’t be shedding a tear even if you have the coldest of hearts. I cannot get over just how beautiful their story is. Even with the heartbreaking moments the love that is born shines so much brighter and takes over your heart.
That Was Yesterday is a majorly addictive unputdownable read that will hit you right in the feels!
I thought I would actually get through one HJ Bellus book without crying, didn’t happen. Max and Finn’s stories were heartbreaking and then you bring Kate in and OMG! This story was amazing and I devoured it in a day. The extra part you can get after is a must read. The characters are witty, charming and give you all kinds of feels. Brilliant. I want Cody next
OMG!! This book was AMAZING!! Max and Kate have an undeniable chemistry from the jump. And little Finn, he just pulled at my heartstrings! The relationships are strong and a true testament to true and pure love for a child. I couldn’t get enough of the story and loved the family dynamics. I also loved getting a glimpse into Whit, Jack and Emma when they are older! It was beautifully written and a must read! Loved every minute of it!
Where to start this review I have no idea because this book is absolutely AMAZING I mean AMAZING! I loved every minute of it and I could not get enough. I stayed up till 3am in the morning till I finished this book because I needed to know what was going to happen to Max and Kate. This story gutted me and tore my heart out and then HJ sewed my heart back together again. There was lot’s of action and suspense in this story as Max is away for 6 years and gets a phone call that changes everything for him.
Kate I can’t say enough about Kate because she is a loving person with the perfect soul. She was everything Max needed and more. It took them so ups and downs to get to where they wanted to be but it was well worth it because what happens between the both of them is simply amazing and has made this a story I will read again and again. This is a must read romance story that HJ will have you on such a rollercoaster ride that once you stop you will be swooning over Max because he is that kinda guy!
Wow what a ride!!! I just loved, loved, loved this book. It was heartbreaking, made me feel proud and but my hear back together all of in one. Meeting Max shows us a bitter life kids go through but can come out the other side. Its amazing what people will do for people that touch their hearts. The world needs more people like this. When we come across Kate shes a new teacher who’s heart breaks and is doing what she believes is right for her student. What she finds is amazing. She’s a generous soul who deserves great things. Can Max make that happen? Can the love she has be enough? I had so many questions and the got answered pretty quick. I couldn’t honestly put this book down. HJ Bellus’s books always touch my heart and this one is no exception. Enjoy!
That Was Yesterday was a captivating story that pulled at my heartstrings from the first page and didn’t let go until the very end. This book is one of the most heartfelt books I’ve read in quite some time. Full of pain, loss, healing and love this story is one I didn’t want to put down once I started. Max’s story had me wanting to reach through my Kindle to give him a giant hug and to tell him everything would be alright. Kate was an absolutely beautiful character with a heart of gold. Finn absolutely stole my heart and I rooted for him to get exactly what he should have always had. I loved watching this story unfold and how interweaved through every page was the importance of both family and love. I enjoyed catching up with the James family and am eagerly looking forward to seeing whose story is next!
Oh my… HJ Bellus has done it again! I loved That Was Yesterday! A beautifully written story that I devoured in one sitting! That Was Yesterday tells the story of Max and Kate (and the amazing Finn) as they work their way through a mountain of life challenges as they try to find their way to a HEA. This story broke my heart, made me cry, then made me laugh and ultimately reminded me of the true meaning of love and family.
HJ Bellus is a brilliant storyteller! I can’t wait to see where she brings us next.
There is just something about the way this author writes that keeps me coming back for more. We become like silly putty in her hands once we venture in. This one was no exception. The characters will do the magic and take you by your hands leading you into their lives. Once you begin to breath what they are doing you will be lost. Max and Kate will do it in this one giving you their all. Since life itself is not all fairtales this one is not either. The emotions she pulls from you as you are carried along will give you a emotional high. This is also one of those if asked which it does happen what book for the year was able to turn on the water works you can honestly say this one is one. They will wrap around you so tight as their story unfolds you will not know how to move when you are finished.
This was another solid offering from this author! I enjoyed it so much. While I have not read the first book in the series, I didn’t feel like it wasn’t a complete story. Max, oh Max, his story hurt my heart. I am glad he had someone like Kate to help navigate through to a happy ending. Can’t wait to see what this author gives us next.
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Well done
5 BEAUTIFUL HEARTFELT STARS!! Another heartfelt story beautifully written by H.J. Bellus. This author pulls us readers in squeezes our hearts and than fill them up again. I always cry, smile, laugh and on the edge of my seat with her stories. Max is broken in so many ways and Kate is a strong beautiful woman with a compassionate heart. These two need each other and their story is amazing. This is one book you will want to 1-Click.
Alli was Max’s life in high school. When his mom died, at age of 15, his coach adopted him. His world crashed when he found Alli with his teammate , and using drugs. He left for service. he vowed never to return to his hometown, until he received a phone call from Kate. That phone call changed his life forever. I enjoyed listening to this story narrated by Heather Edwards and Mark Whalbeck.

Max…. a young man with nothing going for him. He was the product of an alcoholic and drug addicted mother. His dad paid the mother off to be ’unknown’ all the while keeping her addiction going strong with that money. Max was abused, physically and mentally, he was hungry, he was from the wrong side of the tracks. But…. and its a big BUT…. Max got a big break. A good samaritan pays Max’s fees to football camp where the coach is Jessie (from the book ‘Yesterday Is Gone’). Jessie takes Max under his wing, coaches him, teaches him and literally becomes his father.
Jessie and his wife, Jules, adopt Max. With their love, support and his talent in football, Max shines in high school and college. He’s hard to stop on that field, but it all comes to a halt when Max finds his long-term girlfriend in bed with a teammate. Max is devastated and has to get away. He leaves school, leaves football and joins the Marines.
He has no idea that Alley, the cheating girlfriend, is carrying his son … not until six years later. And to makes matters worse, his son, Finn, is suffering the same kind of abuse that Max himself, suffered as a child. Alley is a druggie and will do anything for her next fix.
Finn … sweet precious Finn, is a special child, in more ways than one. Here is where this story takes off and pulls at your heartstrings. Max no longer is that struggling, pushover of a young boy. This Marine knows how to fight and knows how to win. He wants his son and nothing can stop him from getting Finn and bringing real love into Finn’s world.
This is a stand alone book but characters from ‘Yesterday Is Gone’ play important roles here too. You get to ‘see’ how life has changed for them.
Jessie, Jules, Cody, Whit and more are here … you get to see that a real, loving family is more than DNA.
Kate ….. the teacher every child needs. She puts her job in jeopardy by finding Max and telling him he has a son who is in danger. Max knows a good thing when he sees it and he definitely sees Kate. After all, she turned his world upside down in a very good way.
Gilley …. wonder if he liked his introduction to Karma?
Whit …. sweet, innocent Whit is now a teenager. I do hope she gets her own story in this series. The bonus chapter teases us to want a ‘Whit’ book…. gotta know what happened there.
Now that I’ve absorbed the first two stand alone books in this series, I’ve got to read the next one featuring Cody. Anxious to find out exactly what is Cody’s story in ‘Yesterday Is Ours’?
That Was Yesterday
The Yesterday Series, Book 2
By: HJ Bellus
Narrated by: Heather Edwards, Mark Whalbeck
Give me a book like this anytime and I am happy. HJ Bellus continues her Yesterday series with letting us get to know Max. Max has had a tough childhood, full of trauma and heartbreak until Now several years later, he is contacted by Kate, a complete stranger, and she has news for him that will change his life. Bellus has once again found my sweet spot. She can find that emotional pull with the perfect story ine, suck me in and I fall into the heartbreak only to be put back together. We enjoy Kate who has a secondary story that had me both angry and enjoying the resolution. It’s a story is full of hope, love, regret and happiness and let’s us live through Max as we see that the past does not always predict the future. Can’t wait to see where Bellus takes us next!
This is my first narration by Heather Edwards and Mark Whalbeck, and it flowed beautifully. The team had the perfect emotions and inflections. It was a great first listen and I will be watching for more.

That Was Yesterday
The Yesterday Series, Book 2
By: HJ Bellus
Narrated by: Heather Edwards, Mark Whalbeck
This is a great, heartfelt story, it grabbed my attention and my heart and captivated both from start to end. This is Max and Kate’s story, Max was introduced in the 1st book in the series “Yesterday is Gone”. He was a good kid who came from a terrible home situation. His life improved when Jessie and Jules took him in. Max is an adult now and after catching his girlfriend with drugs and then cheating on him he decides to enlist to serve the country and leaves the small town behind. Five years later he receives a call that will change his life forever. Kate is a new teacher in town, she is kind hearted, looks out for her students and goes above and beyond to help them. I loved how caring she is and how awesome she was with Finn. I thought she and Max were great together and for each other. The author takes you in to the past giving you glimpses of what Max had to endure in his childhood, it is just heartbreaking. And I love how the author shows just one act of kindness can make all the difference, in Max’s life it started with Papa Jack, then Jessie and it is what Kate did for Finn. I highly recommend this book, it contains topics that are realistic and very moving, there is also drama, angst, twists and some suspenseful moments that will take you to the edge of your seat. It was nice to see the characters from the 1st book too. HJ Bellus, thank you for another great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Heather Edwards & Mark Whalbeck did a great job narrating and performing the voices of all the characters. They brought the characters to life, gave each their own voice and personality. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen
