USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn brings more humor and heart with the third novel of her Getting Lucky series: a story about breaking curses and laying your heart on the line.
What happens when your secret crush isn’t so secret anymore?
I’ve had feelings for Eve Roberts for as long as I can remember, but because she also happens to be the twin sister of my best friend, Eric, I’ve never … my best friend, Eric, I’ve never acted on my feelings and long ago resigned myself to keeping my crush under wraps.
But after a terrible falling-out with Eric involving a failed restaurant venture and plenty of blame on both sides, I’m back in Port Snow without my best friend and without any direction. But can you guess who’s here? Eve. And my attraction to her is as strong as ever.
As old feelings rush back, Eve and I find ourselves pulled together, whether we like it or not. Lines are crossed, secrets are kept, and we soon discover that the difference between love and friendship may not be so black and white, after all.
Everyone wants that secret crush to love them back…but will I be ready when she does?

Small Town | Friend’s to Lovers Romance
Can I just say that I want to PERSONALLY LIVE IN PORT SNOW! I’ll take any of the Knightly brothers (they are all charmingly irresistible), live through harsh winters (I hate winter), and deal with the small-town gossip JUST TO BE THERE. Gosh, this is one fictional town I dream about. New England is a beautiful place to live because we get all the seasons and while I prefer my winters to be nonexistent, I would take ALL the winters to live there. What a magical place! I grew up vacationing in Maine and Meghan Quinn writes the details PERFECTLY. I can practically smell the ocean and see the steam rising off a bowl of lobster bisque! Sigh… I love this town, these characters, and pretty much everything to do with this series.
Readers, this series is truly amazing. Not only can you visualize and practically FEEL like your living in Port Snow through the details Meghan provides in her writing, but you can CONNECT with these characters on deep levels. Sure, it takes some of them a little time to warm up and wear their emotions on their sleeves (ahem, REID) but connecting with them is so darn easy that they feel like they’ve been your forever friends.
I loved Reid and Eve’s love story. The banter, the bickering, the playfulness, and the emotions won me over. Nothing felt too serious on the surface, but you could FEEL the connection from deep inside your soul. Friends to Lovers romances are at the top of my favorite romantic tropes and these two truly delivered. There were a few moments that grated on my nerves (men can be so STUPID sometimes **rolls eyes) but Meghan showed us that we can overcome anything if you just TRY. I loved this. Reid hasn’t had the easiest time in the past few years- love curses, loosing your business AND best friend – so I could sympathize with his actions, but I still wanted to knock some sense into him. Good thing Eve is one tough cookie because had she not been things would have been TERRIBLE. Gosh I loved it so much!
Anyway, I feel like I’m rambling. I usually do this when I fall irrevocably in love with fictional characters and that’s exactly what happened with Reid and Eve’s story. I don’t want to say it’s my favorite of the series because I honestly love them ALL, but they did fit themselves into a special place in my heart.
If you love strong willed heroines, charming and goofy heroes, a friends-to-lovers trope, AND small-town romances then you’ll want to grab That Secret Crush. This book is magnificent!
First off, I love Meghan Quinn! Second, I had/have a book hangover from staying up way too late.(I don’t regret it) I could not put this book down. I kept telling myself, just one more chapter!! I have adored the Knightly’s but I have to say, Reid has been my favorite!! He was such a sweet, underestimated, caring guy who would do just about anything for those he loved!!
Reid reluctantly moved back to his home town and was trying to make ends meet. His life had taken a turn he was not expecting. The only bright thing in his life was Eve. She was (still is) his crush, but trying anything would go against his best friend, her twin brother’s, wishes. But the more time he was around her, the harder it was to ignore!
Eve was trying to make something of herself. Getting her college degree was taking longer than she wanted but it was within reach. But when Reid crossed the friendship line, would the stars align for them or would everything she worked for be taken away?
So good!! Eve and Reid were magic together!! I have loved Meghan’s style since day one. Her characters are always sweet, sexy, and drool worthy! The humor she sprinkled throughout this book was perfect! I laughed, I cried, I swooned!! What else could I have asked for??
Eve and Reid have known each other forever and they have the whole “I like him, but there is no way he likes me/I like her, but there is no way she likes me” thing going on. Eve is also the younger sister of his best friend, who he is pretty much estranged from so he feels as though he can’t do anything about his crush.
Then one night, a snow storm makes them both throw caution to the wind and they spend the night together. Their chemistry is off the charts and they decide to secretly date. They want to see where things can go without people (aka Reid’s family) getting all up in their business. A good idea? Probably not, but it definitely keeps things interesting.
Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and when an author I love writes that story, I will always look forward to reading it. Meghan did a great job of building the relationship to something that was way more than just two friends hooking up with each other.
Once again we get some quality Knightly family fun in this book. I absolutely LOVE the group texts that they take part in. The exchanges are always hilarious and they even manage to impart some good advice every now and then.
There is only one more book left in this series and I cannot wait to read Brig’s story! Throughout the series he has cracked me up with his sometimes over the top antics & feelings, so I can’t wait to see what happens with him.
This was a great book !
Reid had a crush on Eve for forever.
He never acted on it.
But not, all bets are off.
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Eve and Reid – wow they are so good together. Meghan Quinn’s 3rd book in the Getting Lucky series is another great addition to a series that is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Eve and Reid are great as friends but when they finally take their feelings to the next level the story kicks into high gear. The story is fast-paced with great character development and I loved the story.
his small town romance world that Meghan has created with Port Snow in the Getting Lucky Series is one of my favourites, I was looking forward to being back there with the beautifully described settings and quirky residents. Although That Secret Crush didn’t quite have the deeper emotional angsty edge that Griffin and Rogan’s books had I still loved the book.
That Secret Crush is Reid Knightly’s story, one of friends to lovers with the added complication that the heroine Eve is his best friends twin sister. We know from previous books in the series that Reid has some serious hang-ups, and he was a professional chef before he lost it all. It was nice to finally get the story behind the man and understand why Reid is the brooding, isolated, lost brother that seems to lack the hope for something more.
When a drunken night in a blizzard allows Reid to let go for once in Eve’s company, their chemistry can’t be denied and that step into new territory is taken by both parties, one that has been a long time coming! Eve is a really likeable heroine, she is determined, strong, she works damn hard to support others and reach her own goals no matter how long it takes her to achieve her own. She is perfectly matched for Reid, seeing the man he truly is even when he refuses to. She calls him out on his crap and she won’t be taken advantage of and I loved that. She really is the perfect person to balance out Reid’s hot headed, sometimes self deprecating personality traits.
That Secret Crush has Meghan’s trademark humour with a little conflict thrown in too. It was an easy read, one that held it’s pace and I think Eve and Reid’s story line was perfect for the series weaving into the other books and what the Port Snow world represents. The reason I love this series so much is the family dynamic and I think this book in particular really highlights this. Reid only has Eve and her brother Eric outside of his family circle, he can’t talk to Eve because that’s who he needs advice about and he is estranged from Eric and doesn’t know he is doing the nasty with his sister. So of course Reid goes to his brothers for advice, mainly Brig the youngest Knightly. I have to say I adore Brig and I really hope we get his story one day. He brought most of the humour to the story with his over the top romantic ideals and delusions of grandeur, especially the big moment at the end of the novel OMG I died laughing.
I challenge anyone to not fall for this town and this family, because Meghan has built a little bit of Magic with Port Snow.
I love the Knightly siblings!! That Secret Crush does not disappoint!! Meghan Quinn gives us another great couple to fall in love with! Reid and Eve are childhood friends. Her brother was Reid’s best friend and failed business partner.
Eve is strong and determined and hardworking! Reid is struggling to after the loss of his business. When he decides to go after Eve as more than just a friend, the chemistry is amazing and all their real issues come into reality.
I loved watching Reid grow throughout the book. His struggles are real, he wants Eve but as he realizes what it is going to take to have her in his life- he needs to step up.
Eve is amazing! I love her friends and her support. Eve and Eric grow as well! The Knightly siblings text group is the best!! Mr Knightly is so well written in this book! How Eve and Reid get to happily ever after makes you laugh, cry and feel!!
Meghan Quinn gives all the little details that make us fall in love with all her characters!! I want to go live in Port Snow with them all!
The Knightly brothers are back!!! This time…Reid and Eve! In true MQ fashion, the humor and banter (which are things I love in Meghan’s books). Still trying to beat the “curse” and screwing things up royally, Reid and Eve take us on a roller coaster ride.
I’m enjoying this series so much and I’m ready for more of this family!!!
Reid,Eric, and Eve have been best friends for along time. Eric and Briggs have a falling out and Briggs goes home. Eve and Briggs are still friends and secretly attracted to each other. One night and one touch changed the secret to reality, but there a few issues that arise. Can they look into themselves and be together? Great characters and storyline highly recommended. Love this series
I struggled a bit to like the hero of this book, but I loved the heroine so much! it was a really good story!
That Secret Crush was ultra sexy, highly entertaining, and a laugh out loud reading delight right off the bat! I love the authenticity and intimacy of a close knitted community and family that small town romance portray. It was an absolute delight to go back to Port Snow, one of my favorite places. The third book in the Getting Lucky series brings us Reid and Eve’s friends to lovers-best friend’s sister romance. Their heartfelt story was filled with heartache, sweetness, laughter and most importantly love. This was such a fantastic read and I loved every minute. The engaging plot, immaculate writing and authentic characters, made for a wonderful addition to the Getting Lucky series.
I loved Reid and Eve’s love story. They are the epitome of a perfect friends to lovers story. Sizzling chemistry and fabulous banter, I loved every interaction between these two fabulous characters! What I loved most about this couple, is life isn’t always easy but these two complimented each other perfectly. Their story is very authentic and there are definitely some funny moments.
Meghan weaved a funny and beautiful story that had me laughing one minute and melting the next. She built this magical small town romance that will have you falling in love with its characters and the fictional town. I thoroughly enjoyed this friends to lovers, best friend’s sister romance that was filled humor and heart. This book is magnificent!
Loved this heartwarming, sexy and fun romantic adventure with a touch of forbidden, it is an emotional journey filled with engaging charters, witty dialog, tested loyalties and undeniable passion that will no longer be ignored. Really enjoyed this story!
Reid is the Knightly brother who feels hopeless & lost in the world, especially after he loses everything with his business venture, including his best friend Eric. Moving back to his hometown & feeling like a failure, the only glimmer of light is his interactions with Eric’s twin sister Eve, the girl he’s had a crush on for years. Unbeknownst to Reid, Eve has also had a crush on him for many years. When the friendship lines begin to blur & they start treading towards dangerous waters, will they be able to get past insecurities to see what could happen?
Reid is fighting battles with himself. With feelings of low self-esteem & doubts, Eve sees through all of it to appreciate Reid for the type of man he is. Reid makes decisions that will ultimately affect his relationship with Eve. Throughout the serious, angsty drama, the author does a great job of throwing in hilarious banter with the Knightly siblings to keep things on the lighter side. This was a great read & I’m looking forward to the next book!
That Secret Crush is Reid Knightly’s book and you are in for such an entertaining wonderful read!
I love the way this book was written and how Reid becomes such a lovable man!
I think what I also loved was his beautiful family and how supportive they all are of each other!
Makes me want to live in this town and become friends with them all! Im not joking. I really really enjoyed this book so very much!Small town romance that will stay forever in your mind!
There was drama, sizzling steamy chemistry, witty banter and some heartfelt moments too! I laughed and had tears as the characters bought out these emotions!
I really loved how Eve was so strong and determined and I definitely think Reid and Eve strengthen each other! I really didn’t want this book to end but Im also chomping at the bit for more of the Getting Lucky series and excited for who’s story is next!!!Great writing Ms Quinn! You have certainly captured the heart of a small town romance beautifully!!
It’s time to head back to Port Snow and our favorite Knightly brothers!
In my last review, I deemed Rogan my favorite (although he and Griff are neck and neck) and challenged Reid and Brig to take that top spot. Boy did Reid step up to the challenge!
I don’t even know where to begin with this man. He’s difficult, grumpy, and has a chip on his shoulder the size of the Grand Canyon. His confidence has taken several hits over the years and he’s not always easy to be around. But once you chip away at that roughened exterior, that Knightly charm and winning personality shine through. Reid is a great guy with a great heart, and he’s a little bit pervy and a whole lot of fun. I absolutely love him!
Eve is exactly what Reid needs. I love her drive and determination. I love her optimistic attitude and her willingness to put others first. But I also love the fact that she’s putting herself first for a change. She’s loving, sweet, and a natural-born caretaker. But she’s also smart, hilarious, and has no problem giving as good as she gets when it comes to Reid.
These two are fantastic together. I love friends-to-lovers romances, and Meghan Quinn does a great job of showing how close these two are. Their friendship is fun and goofy, their banter is hilarious, their chemistry is sizzling, and their lust is off-the-charts hot. Throw in the rest of the loving but overly-involved Knightly clan and you are in for a real treat. This book is going to tickle your funny bone, pull at your heartstrings, and rev your engine. You’re gonna love it!
Port Snow and the Knightly Brothers have quickly become beloved characters of mine! Meghan Quinn delivers yet another fantastic story with sexy Reid Knightly and his best friend’s sister, Eve.
Reid and Eve, along with the rest of the Knightly clan, deliver one incredible laugh out loud story with a punch to the gut when a misunderstanding threatens to tear this couple apart. Their chemistry is INSANE and just jumps right off the pages! I think Reid and Eve have quickly become one of my favorite couples and I cannot wait to get Brig’s story!
Another win for me.
This series has been full of so much fun. The relationships between the parents and siblings in this family are something I’m so jealous of. I want to be a member of this family. The dang group texts get me every time.
This story is about Reid. And up until now, we didn’t really know that much about him. And his whole story took me by surprise. There is so much substance in this story and Meghan’s writing is perfection. I am just not sure how her books could get any better.
Eve and Reid had me swooning. Their chemistry is off the charts, hot and sexy. Really LOVED it.
That Secret Crush is the third book in the Getting Lucky series. It follows the four Knightly brothers struggle to find love after being cursed in New Orleans by a palm reader to have doomed relationships. This one follows Reid, and his best friend, Eric’s twin sister, Eve. Reid is an absolute hot mess. He’s a chef, whose shared restaurant with Eric failed a couple years ago, and he basically has never cooked again, and never really moved on from that failure. He’s catching lobster on a boat, pretty unhappy, and angry about his life, yet pretty unwilling to change it. On the other hand, Eve is amazing. Eric basically never returned home so she took care of her parents as they were dying, and put her life on hold to do that. She is now finishing her degree and has her life pretty together. Eve and Reid have always been friends, and have always harbored secret crushes on each other and one night, they decide to act on their crushes. Their relationship runs pretty hot and cold, mostly due to Reid. But, Eve is so good for Reid and once he gets his stuff together, they are fantastic together. The best part of this series is the town of Port Snow, and the relationship between the brothers. These were still very present and my favorite parts of this book too. Brig’s book is next and I cannot wait for that one.

Meghan Quinn has created the most adorable small town community filled with the cutest shops with the cutest names and the most amazing family in the history of fictional families! These Knightly brothers are a riot! They always make me laugh! I love how the author gives us the background of this “curse” in the beginning of each story. It bring me back to the beginning each time and I love it. I thought the author did a great job on creating Reid and Eve’s story. I loved their history and following how the relationship developed and the obstacles they faced. While I loved their story there was a little spark of something that I was missing. Almost like the story was a little predictable so there wasn’t a big wow factor. With that being said, I still very much enjoyed the story and I can’t wait to see what is next for the Knightly clan!
4.5 Stars for That Secret Crush Book 3 in the Getting Lucky Series
This is Eve Roberts and Reid Knightly story and let me tell you right away it is a story that will captivate you, it will draw you in and there will be no putting down until the last word is read!!!!
I love my visits to the small town of Port Snow, I feel like I’m going home to catch up with family and friends and I especially love catching up with those Knightly brothers. Each brother has their own tale to tell and each book can certainly be read as a stand-alone although I’m sure one brother and one visit to Port Snow will never be enough. Eve and Reid have an amazing intense chemistry but it’s the banter they share that makes this a fun, enjoyable, witty read. Once again this author has us smiling and laughing out loud one minute and sighing and swooning the next. This small town romance left me wanting more and I really can’t wait to catch up with the residents of Port Snow in the next instalment if the Knightly brothers.
