USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn delivers a smart and cheeky romance about love’s power to lift hearts . . . and curses. It was supposed to be an innocent night, celebrating my brother’s birthday. Nothing was supposed to go wrong. We’d vowed to be on our best behavior after all . . .But it only took one rowdy night with my brothers to flip my world upside down. One unlucky encounter … world upside down. One unlucky encounter saddled us with a family curse and the promise of doomed relationships. I laughed it off immediately. “Yeah, right,” I thought. “A love curse. Ha!”
Boy, was I wrong.
Word spreads quickly in a town like mine; rumors about that night soon made us the most eligible yet untouchable bachelors in Port Snow, Maine. As a subject of endless gossip and speculation, I could kiss my dating life goodbye.
It would have stayed that way if Ren Winters, the new girl in town, hadn’t crashed into my life. Brave, beautiful, and smart—her vivacious thirst for a fresh start has given me hope that maybe, just maybe, I can have one too.
Everyone wishes for that second chance . . . but could this really be mine?

I love a story that’s set in a small town. It has a very familiar feel about it and I cherish the connections they all have between each other. It might make you feel a little lost if you are the newcomer but not for Ren. She even gets to meet the local fauna and flora up close! Even volunteer firefighter Griffin meets her on her first day in town. It could be the start of something special, and a grand story to tell the grandkids, if only things weren’t so complicated.
Griffin was super sweet but conflicted with his feelings. Not only because he wasn’t ready to move on, but there’s the curse and all. Ren is the first girl that even has him looking sideways again and she – with the help of his family – slowly gets under his skin. I loved the banter between the brothers. It’s something I have grown up with, and see reflected in my own boys. I was literally snorting with them throughout the book. At other times my heart just ached for Ren and Griff. I felt she tried her best, but was right to be strong and give him time. Griffin was very resolute and it took some convincing him that he was not all doom and gloom, although kismet played a big part in Ren’s introduction to Port Snow.
As the title suggests, this is a second chance romance that I throughly enjoyed. The epilogue sets up the next book nicely and I can’t wait to hear Rogan’s tale and meet up with the whole gang again.
This was another hit from Meghan! I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars. This review is for an ARC, and reflects my honest opinion.
I was a little nervous going into this book due to the curse aspect. I shouldn’t have been though, because I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read from this author. The characters always suck me in, I smile and laugh at least a dozen times, etc.
The summary made me think this would play out differently than it did in certain aspects. Regardless, I loved going back to this small town where I got to see some old favorite characters, and met new ones as well. Griffin was a really good character overall; my heart went out to him and everything he endured. He was so hesitant about love until Ren showed up, and essentially blew up his world.
Now onto Ren…she was fantastic! I loved her personality, and the fact that she wasn’t afraid to embrace her new life. Regarding side characters, I loved every one of the Knightlys, Rylee, Beck, Ruth, etc. I am so excited to see more from these characters (especially the brothers) in future books. Give me book two ASAP!
3-3.5 stars
This was a cute read. I did enjoy the story and found the characters likable. Griffin’s and Ren’s romance was sweet. I liked how they gravitated towards each other and their time spent together was good. The small town atmosphere and the bond of the Knightly family was pleasant. I felt like I was in Maine with them and experiencing it first hand. I really loved Griffin’s siblings they were fun and great and I am interested in the rest of the brothers and their stories. Overall, a good read that I surprisedly enjoyed.
That Second Chance is the first book in the Getting Lucky Series by the ever amazing Meghan Quinn. We got a small glimpse into the town of Port Snow and Griffin Knightly during Two Wedding Crashers, even then I was hooked by the idea of a small town setting and a family curse on love.
This novel introduces us to all 4 Knightly Brothers – Griffin, Rogan, Reid and Brig, as well as their sister Jen. That Second Chance focuses on Griffin and starts things off by setting up the family curse, which is cast by a palm reader in New Orleans on Brig’s 21st birthday. Since the trip the Knightly brothers have steered clear of relationships, with every woman in town knowing they are now untouchable. So when Ren Winters comes literally crashing into town, no thanks to a suicidal moose, Griffin knows he is in real trouble.
What I loved about this book was basically everything! Meghan describes this town so well I can picture it’s layout and literally walk around it in my mind, I want to visit the real port snow! The family relationship between the Knightly siblings, how all the men look similar but are all so different in their personalities. Meghan always writes excellent banter in her books and this one is no exception. Some of my favourite moments were the teasing and joking between the four Knightly men; but add it Ren keeping up and giving it to Reid and Brig during the camping trip, had me giggling away to myself as I read.
When it comes to our hero and heroine, both Griffin and Ren are such loveable characters. Reading as their friendship blossoms despite the towns gossip mill twisting things up in hilarious ways, was an addictive read. There were so many special moments in the book, no over the top gestures of grandeur; but full of romantic nuances that had me swooning so hard. The way Meghan would describe the gentle touches between Griffin and Ren, the lift of her chin, the brush of fingertips, the nervous smiles across the room, my heart just swelled. The simple gestures in their story made the biggest impact on me and Meghan’s writing showcased this beautifully without necessary levels of detail. Add in the angst of Griffin’s fear of the curse hanging over his head, leaving him destined for heartbreak and loneliness and you have the perfect mix for a 5 star romance book!
I am so excited for the next book in the series coming in August, after that epilogue I have no doubt I am going to enjoy Rogan’s story too. Hopefully down the line we get Reid and Brig’s tales too, because I can’t get enough of Port Snow.
This cover is perfect!!!!!! Let me just start with that.
This book was enjoyable to read. The writing was great and the characters were amazing.
You could picture yourself on those cobblestone paths walking along the ocean for sure. I want to take a trip now to Maine.
It’s totally selfish but I just wanted more. Talk about slow burn. This book is 100% slow burn to getting to the good stuff.
I absolutely adore this family. I’m so happy the brothers are getting their own stories. I can’t wait to see what happens with them.
Ren and Griffin’s relationship was perfect. Friends to lovers. I could have kept reading their story.
There’s multiple times I laughed out loud at something that was going on. Gotta love a pushy family.
I remember the days before reading Meghan Quinn… jumping around from author to author, foot loose and fancy-free. I had no single author that made me feel like they were the end all for me. However, Meghan Quinn has made it all possible for me to stalk and pine after every word she writes. I feel like she could make me give up my wondering eyes and stick to only her stories. I would totally do this… if I didn’t read and/or listen to nearly 500 books a year… so I’ll either have to suck it up and read various authors or she’s really going to have to up her game!! What do ya think Quinn? Ya got 500 books a year in ya? I’ve got the dedication if you do!
Anywho, y’all get it… I dig her. Mrs. Quinn is a word-master! I cannot get enough of her words and her characters. I’m seriously obsessed with the way she develops her story. In The Second Chance, we have the Knightly brothers living in a picturesque small town life in Maine. Griffin is fabulous!! He’s charming and sweet… and totally smitten with Ren but he’s adorably fighting it every single step of the way! Ren is super upbeat and fun. She’s light, to Griffen’s deep. They’re a good match and I love the curse that has Griffen walking a tight and shaky line.
That Second Chance isn’t Meghan Quinn’s usual laugh out loud and rolling around the floor crying funny. That Second Chance is bit lighter, a bit more upbeat and fun, definitely her signature sweet, packed with some mega heat. That Second Chance is a bit more well-rounded, but adorably sweet. I just can’t get enough of her words! I’ll be counting down the days until Meghan Quinn lands on my kindle once again!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
And my heart is all swoony after reading this book.
Also I am smiling big and laughed out loud while reading this story. It has Author Meghan Quinn’s signature humor that always makes her books enjoyable to read.
Main characters Griffin & Ren gives us a good dose of love, heartache, angsty, funny and just overall that heart warming feeling of falling in love!
Enjoying this new series by Author Meghan Quinn which can be read as a standalone.
Be ready to fall in love with this small town romance!

That Second Chance by Meghan Quinn
Getting Lucky #1
The Knightly brothers are four peas in a pod with an older sister. This book is about Griffin and his second chance at love…if he is willing to open his heart, take a chance and become mature enough to put the curse handed out to him and his brothers in New Orleans into the correct perspective.
When new-to-town algebra teacher Ren Winteres arrives the two realize there is a spark between them but it takes forever to burst into flame. Ren is much more open and willing to really live after an experience she had a year before but Griffin seems a bit stuck and in need of being shaken up to get on with his life.
This book is an introduction to the four brothers, the town and to the curse that all of the brothers believe impacts them. It is a bit predictable at times but flows smoothly and was an easy happy read with a HEA/HFN ending and a lead into brother Rogan’s story that will appear in book 2.
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I rad book two in the series? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
Fun, heartwarming and full of emotion, That Second Chance is one of Meghan Quinn’s best books! From the prologue on, the story had me hooked! Griffin and Ren’s story was exciting, full of hope and so much more, I was swooning the entire time I read it! From the main characters to the entire Knightly family, from Ren and her parents to the town of Port Snow itself, this story packed a punch! The Knightly Brothers are here people…be ready to be swept away by every last one of them!
I haven’t read much of Quinn’s newer books lately. So, when the opportunity to read this one, I jumped on it. I am a sucker for small town stories.
I jumped right into this book, hooked from the start. The book starts with a drunken night that left me chuckling. It leads into some fun and some heartbreaking moments. All of the inbetween kept me turning the pages.
I enjoyed all of the characters in this book. Ren and Griffin’s story has a little bit of everything in it. There are some funny times, some sweet times, some sexy times, some heartbreaking times… My drawback with the characters is Ren. I felt for a character her age, her over-reactions were a bit much, immature. I wasn’t feeling some of her responses to certain situations.
While I was excited for that ah-ha moment for Griffin in this book, it didn’t leave me with what I had hoped for. It felt a bit cheesey, rushed, and forced. It was like, “oh, duh, why didn’t I think of that” and everything was all of a sudden right with the world. I needed it to be a bit more of a complex discovery at that moment.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I am most certainly looking forward to the upcoming books in this series. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the other brothers.
Heartfelt romance full of heart and humor.
Hilarious and angsty!
There’s more to this story than you think!
This is book 1 in the Getting Lucky Series and it’s off to a great start!
A birthday celebration in New Orleans for one of the Knightly brothers leaves them stunned when an innocent incident introduces them to a mysterious fortune teller cursing them for all eternity or until they believe.
“Those who belittle and make others feel worse will feel the ungodly wrath of my curse.” “Listen to me, to the words I have spoken.” Her voice grows stronger, louder, more sinister. “From this day on, your love will be broken. It isn’t until your minds have matured that the weight of this curse will forever be cured.”
So the question really is…
Is it really the curse of a fortune teller or an angry old lady scaring off a rowdy bunch of drunk guys!
Following this fun weekend, Griffin suffers an unexpected tragic event that leads him to believe “the curse.”
That is until he meets Ren.
The stage is set for Griffin’s story and I was easily swept in to discover how it would all turn out!
Their immediate chemistry was undeniable, hilarious and full of sexual tension.
Their banter was sharp, funny and on point.
The back and forth and the struggles they both face had me cheering for them.
However, his constant struggle between letting go of his painful past and his semi belief about the curse, after awhile had me rolling my eyes a few times.
Dude come on?
But…there is more to his painful past and discovering what happens had me glued to the pages!
The old lady’s prophecy may have had some meaning but was it a curse or a premonition!
5 Stars
I’m soooo freaking excited to be back in the small town of Port Snow, Maine! I fell in love with the little town in Two Wedding Crashers and was instantly curious about the infamous Knightly brothers.
This first book in the new series is about the oldest brother, Griffin, and let me tell you…saa-wooooon! After a trip to celebrate his youngest brother’s birthday, word spread quickly through their small town about the “love curse” put on them making them the most wanted, ineligible bachelors in all of Port Snow. Ren is moving to the other side of the country for a fresh start in the picturesque small town and rolls into town with a bang, thanks to a suicidal moose (her words lol). I loved her so much. Her quirkiness was just so endearing.
These two were so great together and once Griffin FINALLY got his head out of his ass and decided to NOT let the curse rule his love life, they were even better. Tons of chemistry and a love you’ll envy. Overall, I loved Griffin and Ren’s story and I can’t wait for the rest of the Knightly brothers and to watch them overcome their own demons with the “love curse”. Great start to this new series from Meghan Quinn.

THAT SECOND CHANCE by Meghan Quinn is in the simplest terms, the perfect beach read. It’s light, funny, charming, and is easy to devour. Kind of like the characters – funny, charming, and some are very easy to devour.
The small town of Port Snow, Maine is picturesque from the storefronts to its townspeople. Especially the Kightly brothers. And while there is some angst, it is wholly a sweet, second chance romance.
As with all small towns (I should know), there is a rumor mill and it seems as though the grade-school game of telephone is alive and well. Those stories draw you closer to the Knightly brothers and into the love story between Griffin and Ren. It is a slow moving romance and I enjoyed watching their love gradually unfold throughout the book.
Meghan Quinn’s sense of humor comes out full force in THAT SECOND CHANCE and while I was reading, I found myself chuckling more times than not because of jokes or character antics.
THAT SECOND CHANCE is a slow-build, sweet, contemporary romance filled with humor, family, and fudge. What more could you ask for?

Griffin and Ren are quirky and fun, they have a fun friendship that slowly turns to more. They help each other out, even without knowing or realizing how. Things just fall into place for them naturally.
I loved being pulled into the details of this quaint little town, I wish it were real so I could actually visit… and maybe bring some of that Lobster Landing fudge home… now that I’m drooling over not only fudge, but Griffin, I can say that I recommend this funny HEA romance.
The only thing I didn’t care for was how often Ren used the words cute or adorable to describe something.
I loved this one. I fall in love with the Knightly brothers and Port Snow. The Knightly brother have trip to New Orleans which they believe have left them cursed. Reid, Brig, Rogan, Griffin, and Jen make up the Knightly siblings. Their parents are great too. I loved the dynamics of this family. This is the type of family I want. This book is Griffin’s story. Griffin has had a bad past and he keeps people at a length because of the curse. Ren is new to town and makes a grand entrance by having a run in with a moose. Ren is has a rough patch an she”s starting over in a small town way away from her parents. I loved her parents. Her Mom is a helicopter mom but she’s so sweet. In the story Ren talks about taco potpie and I had never heard of taco potpie. I kind of bummed that there wasn’t a recipe for it included in the back of the story but I looked up a recipe and had to make it. There was nothing I didn’t like about these characters or the story line. It’s a perfect sweet read.
Nobody writes a slow burn like Meghan Quinn and this book is a perfect example.
I have yet to read a story from MQ that I didn’t like, but I think this one might end up being one of my favorites. I love this family, I love this down, I love everything about this new series!
Griffin Knightly….could I adore this man any more than I already do?!? He’s instantly likable, as are all his brothers. He’s sexy, charming, and is an extremely approachable, genuinely good guy. He’s sweet and funny, caring and helpful, and doesn’t let downtime become his enemy. He’s involved with everything, just the way he likes it – the way he needs it – to keep the broken pieces of his past from coming back to haunt him.
I absolutely have a girl crush on Ren. She’s amazing. She’s resilient, gutsy, and determined. She’s also funny, sweet, and a little bit (or maybe a lot) awkward. She has the best personality and fits right into the little town of Port Snow like she’s been there all her life. She always looks at the bright side of things and has the patience of a saint. You can’t help but love her.
This book has all the four Hs, as MQ books tend to do – humor, heat, heartbreaking moments, and heart-swooning redemptions. I’ve fallen in love with all four Knightly brothers and I can’t wait to watch each one get their happily ever after. I can’t say enough good things about this book. It’s a definite must read!
I loved this book HARD! Meghan Quinn is a queen of rom-coms and I loved every second of this one.
Let me start with the town of Port Snow, Maine. I will admit, I am biased when it comes to Maine because that it is on my bucket list of places I want to see before I die. This author describes this town and its people beautifully and colorfully and I loved every minute of it.
This book had me from the prologue, which I loved. It introduces you to all the Knightly brothers and it is a unique way to start a story. The Knightly family owns a fudge shop (A FUDGE SHOP!) in this quaint little town and is run by Griffin Knightly and all of his siblings. The interaction between all the brothers and their sister and the townspeople was just the best and had me laughing out loud!
The story really gets going with a suicidal moose and if that isn’t enough to intrigue you, what is? I can’t stress enough how funny this book is in parts, but also has great heart and family at its core. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series and get to know the rest of Clan Knightly better!
And another amazing book by Meghan Quinn. Griffin and Ren are such a great story. Ren is new in town and is rescued by Griffin after a run-in with a moose. Griffin is from Port Snow, helping in his family business, is a fireman and helps around the town. They have a connection right from the start but Griffin keeps Ren at arms length because of history with a curse his thinks happened in New Orleans when he was with his brothers from 2 years before.
This book gives you the small town feel, has great family and friend connections. I love how Meghan writes a story. You cannot help but want more. This book gives all the feels- I laughed alot, cried a bit and just felt whole . I loved watching Griffin grow with the pain of lose and acceptance of his feelings and the strength of Ren! I cannot wait for more in this series!
This. Book. Boy did it ever tick off all of the marks. For starters, the moment I read this synopsis and laid my eyes on the cover, I just knew I had to get my hands on this bad boy. And let me tell you, I am super glad that I did.
That Second Chance is the first book in the Getting Lucky Series from Meghan Quinn. This story is everything I’m looking for in a second chance romance. You’ve got great characters that have been broken by their pasts. You’ve got an amazing family, that just pulls you in and makes you apart of their life whether you’re ready for it or not. Add in some explosive chemistry and a friendship that you know in your heart of hearts is destined for more, and let me tell you, you’ve got all the makings for a romance that is just going to knock your socks off.
Griffin and Ren won me over from their very first encounter. The sparks were there and boy were they ever off the charts. Neither one of them was looking for love. Ren was looking for a fresh start and Griffin was just going through the motions of life. But, the more time that these two spent together, the harder it was to stay away. Griffin was everything that Ren was looking for. And Ren brought light and happiness into Griffin’s world. She reminded him what is was like to live his life again. Sure, Griffin wasn’t perfect. Heck, there was a few times, I wanted to reach into my kindle and knock some sense into him. But, I got it. I really did. I understood why he was so afraid and why he let fear run his life. I could only hope that he would figure things out before he lost the one thing that made his life brighter….
That Second Chance is a sweet and sexy second chance romance that is sure to leave you with all the feels. Ren and Griffin’s story is heartwarming and is filled with so many swoon-worthy moments. The characters are so likable and easy to connect with. They suck you into their story and leave you just dying for more. I loved the ups and downs, the embarrassing moments and the ones that made you swoon. The moments that tugged at my heart and left me hoping for a happily ever after….And while Ren & Griffin’s story does wrap up in That Second Chance, the ending perfectly sets things up for the next book in the series and will leave you seriously salivating for more!
I hope you’ll pick up That Second Chance and fall in love with Ren & Griffin just as I have.
I now want to visit Port Snow, Maine! This was the great beginning of what I can already tell is going to be an amazing series!
This book captivated me from the very beginning. Ms. Quinn has a way with words – she can tear you apart in one sentence and then make you laugh in the next.
A firefighter and a teacher – how much more perfection do you need in your next book? Ren and Griffin both stole my heart from their very first chapter. I loved reading both of their perspectives and getting to know each of them (especially as their worlds collide).
Let’s not forget the other Knightly brothers! I want so much more of them! Fingers crossed that we get more of them in the rest of this series!
