USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn delivers a smart and cheeky romance about love’s power to lift hearts . . . and curses. It was supposed to be an innocent night, celebrating my brother’s birthday. Nothing was supposed to go wrong. We’d vowed to be on our best behavior after all . . .But it only took one rowdy night with my brothers to flip my world upside down. One unlucky encounter … world upside down. One unlucky encounter saddled us with a family curse and the promise of doomed relationships. I laughed it off immediately. “Yeah, right,” I thought. “A love curse. Ha!”
Boy, was I wrong.
Word spreads quickly in a town like mine; rumors about that night soon made us the most eligible yet untouchable bachelors in Port Snow, Maine. As a subject of endless gossip and speculation, I could kiss my dating life goodbye.
It would have stayed that way if Ren Winters, the new girl in town, hadn’t crashed into my life. Brave, beautiful, and smart—her vivacious thirst for a fresh start has given me hope that maybe, just maybe, I can have one too.
Everyone wishes for that second chance . . . but could this really be mine?

The Knightly brothers were in the middle of a night of rowdy fun when the curse that would alter their lives occurred. How could an innocent stumble lead to a black cloud looming over the Knightly brothers’ lives?
Nothing about Griffin Knightly’s life has been the same since that night on the town with his brothers. A tragedy was just waiting in the wings to make Griffin believe that his happiness was in jeopardy. Then a call that came through the fire department would lead Griffin to cross paths with Ren. Imagine moving to a new city without knowing a sole. That is exactly the reality Ren is facing. With a new job, a new home, and relocating to the entire opposite side of the US, Ren is exhilarated from the prospect of starting a new adventure. When Ren crosses paths with Griffin, she quickly discovers that small town life does come with a few perks. Determined to make the most of her current situation, Ren realizes that Griffin might be the one thing that is missing from her life. There is only one problem….the curse that plagues the Knightly brothers!
That Second Chance is a great second chance love story by Meghan Quinn. This small town romance will leave you anticipating the fate of Griffin and Ren. With baggage following this couple from all angles, their journey will keep you anticipating what will unfold. A curse, a moose, an attempt to swing from the trees…..what more could you ask for in a love story that will warm your heart??
The start of a new series has me hooked. Port Snow Maine is small town and everyone knows everyone else’s business.
Ren has come to town for a job teaching and she meets Griffin the cursed widower who tries to avoid his attraction to Ren. Love the family in this book. Great Start of a series
This book had me wanting to move to Port Snow. Another small town romcom that will have me rereading it over and over just so I feel like I’m visiting it. It’s a great second chance, with a little curse from New Orleans, A big moose, a girl who’s parents are a bit overbearing and a family that brings meddling in each others lives to a whole new level. Griffin Knightly has been through the wringer of life already, but when he meets a screaming, bleeding Ren he can’t stop the warm feelings he begins to feel again. Both trying to start over in life when the heat turns up and they can’t stop being around each other. This book was great, I can’t wait to read #2 in the series!
What would you do if a palm reader put a curse on your love-life? Although I loved the connection that Ren and Griffin make, I had a hard time dealing with the idea an grown man will not reason pass a curse any sooner that Griffin does. Ren’s need to get away from the hectic life in California and her unfortunate entrance to Port Snow are a very good intro by Ms. Quinn and got me hooked right away.
“I’ll put everything on the line to try for her.”
Ah! Another Meghan Quinn favourite! I loved everything about this book — the small town, the sense of community, the familial relationships and Ren & Griffin.
One of my favourite parts of this book was that even though Griffin was gun shy about being in another relationship, especially after the tragic way his first relationship ended. I loved how he developed a friendship with Ren and how that laid the foundation for their future.
There is a lot of push and pull between the two, and for some readers that might be frustrating, I, on the other hand, live for that push and pull so I loved the whole concept of being together yet apart.
I’ve come to love Quinn’s books so hard, I honestly think there just might be something for everyone to enjoy.
4 Stars!
Who are Brig, Reid, Jen, Rogan, and Griffin? Where are they and why? Why does Ren go to Port Snow, ME? How do her parents feel about that and why? What happens as she gets to the town limit? Oh my gosh, the matchmaking in this nosy, busy-body town has me just rolling my eyes because of how obvious people are about it. I don’t think sublty is a word that anyone knows. You need to read this funny romance and see what I’m talking about. Who I’m talking about. Enjoy!

I completely fell in love with Griffin in this story….Can the curse be broken? I want to move to Port Snow and take in all the beauty and wonder that the author describes. The story has pain, love, humor with a side of whimsy that captivated me and has me looking forward to reading all the other brothers’ stories. I need fudge now…and lobster bisque…and crabcakes…and sex on the beach. I’ll leave the moose for others to enjoy 🙂
I love this one so much. It is heartwarming and filled with family. You will love the Knightly family so much. Each brother is a little different yet they are so close to each other. That Second Chance is Griffin’s story. You will love him so much and will just want to hold him close. Your heart will melt as he starts to heal and give love a second chance. I adore Ren so much. I love how she holds her own with the Knightly’s. There is this beautiful slow grow from friends to more that will make you just swoon and pulls at your heart more. I love Ren and Griffin together. I laughed and cried a little throughout this one. Such a beautiful read. I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read more of the Getting Lucky series. Meghan Quinn just draws you in and doesn’t let you go with this one. Go pick this one up today.
Y’all, how in the world did I let a second chance romance with a small town setting from one of my favorite authors sit and languish on my shelves for over two months? I’m so disappointed in myself. I am not, however, disappointed in That Second Chance. Holy cow, this book. It did SO MANY THINGS to my heart. It just might be my new favorite Meghan Quinn book. I mean, if I played favorites.
That Second Chance grabbed me from the first few pages and didn’t let go. I love a good prologue and Meghan knocked this one out of the park. There was no stopping once I got that little taste. I couldn’t get enough of Griffin or Ren. Don’t even get me started on the secondary characters. I’m so glad this series is set up to give each of Griffin’s brothers their own books. I’m so greedy for all their stories.
Griffin’s story tugged at my heartstrings. The loss of his wife was palpable. As was his guilt over her passing, and his fear of the curse he’s convinced caused her death. I hated that he was going through all that because he was such a great guy. It was obvious how much he loved his brothers, and I really loved the dynamic between them. Not only did it knock me in the feels a couple times, but it also made me laugh out loud more than once.
I adored Ren, too. She’d been through her own challenges and moved to Port Snow to escape her past (and her overbearing parents). I appreciated her spunk and overall energy. I couldn’t have shipped her and Griffin any harder if I tried. It was obvious from their first meeting, no matter how unconventional, there was something between them. I enjoyed watching them become friends and then ultimately grow into more.
I loved everything about That Second Chance. It had everything I love about Meghan’s books. I laughed, cried, swooned and fanned myself more than once. (That lake scene, yo. So flipping hot.) It was wonderful to see some old favorite characters, while meeting new ones. But now I need Rogan’s story. It, too, is a second chance romance and I am here for it.
Favorite Quotes:
“Cupid hit my little brother with a giant moose. Oh, this is so wonderful.”
All I’m asking for is this one moment, this one instance, when I can forget about the past, forget about the curse, and life the life I wish I could have.
“I can’t even pinpoint a moment when I’ve wanted something as badly as I want your lips on mine.”
GAH! This novel was amazing!!
Griffin and Ren are two characters you can’t help but fall in love with. They have this undeniable chemistry between them, that will leave you swooning throughout the entire novel.
There was so much angst throughout this novel. At one point, I thought, “could there be any more angst?”, then, in the next few pages, the angst got upped to a whole other level and had my heart rate soaring!
I loved how much all of the characters in this novel cared about one another. Despite the fact that at times they may appear overbearing, and all up in your business, they are solely doing it out of love. They want the best for everyone no matter what that is.
I definitely recommend this novel to everyone! Make sure to purchase it today, before the second book in the series releases!
5/5 Stars!
I’m so excited that this is the first book of (probably) four, because it was fantastic. Meghan Quinn is a new author for me and one I can’t wait to read more of.
The brothers and sister were such a hoot with all the grief they gave each other. Some of it was characteristically juvenile, but there was always love running underneath the wise cracks and the arm punches.
Ren’s character was very interesting. She was so determined to take care of herself, but mishaps just kept happening to her. She’s also determined to love the stupid guy who’s so afraid to return that love because of a curse supposedly put on him and his brothers by an old lady in Vegas.
I absolutely loved the scene with the moose, but I don’t want to ruin in for anybody. A very romantic, very funny, very touching book. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
I’m so glad I picked up this book. The characters are rich and so intriguing. I want to know everything there is to know about the Knightly brothers. Griffin is an amazing man who is due for some good in his life and then he finds Ren… HEA ensues!
The humor that is woven into this story and the authors ability to bring us into this world make this a great read. I can’t wait for the rest of the series!
That Second Chance is an incredibly sweet and charming story that I was absolutely addicted to! I got swept up in Ren & Griffin’s romance and couldn’t stop reading. Griffin was quite the hero – such a dedicated, hardworking, man who believed he was unlucky in love because of a curse. But when Ren comes to town, he can’t seem to take his eyes of the new girl in town. She finds herself drawn to him too, but only time will tell if she will break down the walls that Griffin has around his heart.
I know that we got a brief glance of Port Snow back in Two Wedding Crashers, but getting to spend an extended period of time there was so much fun! I completely fell in love with the town and the Knightly Brothers – all of them (and the sister too)!! Such a hilarious and crazy family, always meddling in the others lives…..but all of it done from a place of love.
If you like small-town romances, you are absolutely going to love this one.
Everyone believes Griffin is cursed. It all started a couple of years ago on a trip to New Orleans to celebrate one of his brothers’ birthday. They were all drunk when they ran into a fortune teller and her rickety table. Too much mouthing off at the gypsy woman, a broken table, and an irate fortune teller later, and all the brothers were supposed to be cursed in love. Events that followed that incident were either fated or part of the curse. Griffin’s love life was never the same. All the single gals gave him a wide berth, just in case.
Now there is a new girl in town, Ren, who moved in only a couple of houses down from him. There is attraction and the need to protect her, but can he possibly risk giving his heart away again? What if the curse is for real?
I found this book adorable and entertaining to the point it needed five stars. Do not miss it!
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
I have never read a book by Meghan Quinn before, but I received a signed copy of That Second Chance in one of my book subscription boxes and also found this available on KU with listen for free option, so I just had to check it out. It was fabulous! I was smiling so much throughout this book, both listening and reading about suicidal moose, hilarious small town gossip, antics of the Knightley brothers and sister and anything that comes out of Ren’s mouth, it was all such fun! Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all fun and games, especially with the dreaded curse that was put on the Knightley brothers one weekend in New Orleans. Initially Griffin, the eldest of the brothers did not believe it, but tragedy strikes and changes his mind and he is now set against falling in love. However with the appearance of Ren, Griffin’s determination to stay away from any romantic entanglements gets harder and harder to keep. What starts off as friendship, slowly develop to so much more.
I have to say I really loved the relationship that developed between Ren and Griffin, but to be honest, it got a bit frustrating with Griffin’s back and forth. I could tell his fear was real, but to base his future happiness on the curse irked me a bit. And the curse itself seem uncalled for, seemed a bit vindictive to me.
But overall, this was a sweet and fun story with really loveable characters. I am definitely looking forward to the future books in this series.
Heartwarming, emotional, sexy, witty and engaging second chance journey filled with love, loss, small town awesomeness and exciting passion….. was a gripping read from beginning to end and impossible to put down once I started on this thrilling adventure. They are both looking for something and find something even better than either of them imagined. Loved it!
Oh Meghan you have certainly done it again ! This book was amazing, I loved everything about it.
A small town in Maine, fudge and the Knightly brothers what more could a girl want?
I couldn’t help but chuckle on more than one occasion especially when Ren and Griffin first meet on her first day in town when this hunky volunteer firefighter rescues her from a tree after a moose v car incident.
I totally lost my self in this book and what better place to lose yourself then Port Snow and I can’t wait for more on the knightly’s
I loved this book. I love Meghan Quinn! The story was funny and made me laugh out loud at some points and brought me to tears at others. This is the story of Griffin and Ren. Griffin and his brothers think that they were cursed with a love curse when they were in New Orleans and he has lost love in his life and not sure how to move past it. Ren is kind of an awkward, funny girl moving to a new town to get under the watchful eye of her parents and start living life as a grownup. She crashes into Port Snow, literally, and Griffin saves her. The writing of these scenes were fantastic and I could visually see it playing out and laughing along at it.
Ren stuck around a lot longer vying for Griffin’s attention and affection than most girls would have, but he was definitely worth the wait. I hope that books are written about each of the brothers because of course Meghan wrote enough about each one that made me super curious about where their stories will take them. You can’t go wrong with this book. A great start to a new series!
That Second Chance was the perfect start to a new series. I am a huge fan of Meghan Quinn. She writes stories that make you swoon and are full of emotion. This book had it all. I really enjoyed these characters.
Griffin is the oldest of four brothers and is one of the hottest bachelors in town. Woman in Port Snow steer clear of the Knightly brothers. Griffin deals with a tragic loss and has sworn off women after a curse was put on him.
Ren is so excited to start her new life in Port Snow Main. She is looking forward to being to be her own person. Her parents are a little overprotective and she needed to live her life. After surviving a terrible car accident she is ready for a fresh start.
Griffin and Ren’s meeting was your traditional one. They constantly run into each other in the small town. Ren is having a hard time fighting her attraction for Griffin and can’t figure out if he feels the same way. Griffin is set on not opening his heart to anyone again. He thinks if he isn’t with Ren she won’t get hurt. Will these two be able to find a way to make their friendship turn into something more?
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
