Thanksgiving by the Sea earns 5/5 Double Troubles…Positively Engaging!
A young social worker was attacked, and the doctors aren’t sure she’ll recover. Her sister is distraught, but willing, on Officer Baker’s word, to allow Amanda a visit hoping with her unique gift she can sense something, anything, about the events that put Trinity in the hospital. However, seeing the dead doesn’t translate effectively to people in a coma, Later, Amanda has an odd experience…a premonition? Maybe. She sees a man, shot, and then she learns of a shooting at the courthouse…a lawyer is dead! Connection? Both worked together on three open cases…difficult, volatile, motives. That’s just the first chapter!
From that point on Kathi Daley pens an intriguing double mystery with an entertaining ghostly twist. With a first-person narrative from Amanda’s perspective sharing her inner thoughts, fears, and challenges. Her “I see dead people” gift is a legitimate investigative tool, successful and quietly supported by the police, but not a hocus-pocus trick. Although the ghosts for “Thanksgiving” are less of a main character, not appearing on cue, but the premise along with Kathi Daley’s writing style, descriptive language, and realistic dialogue makes for a very entertaining page-turner. Along with a murder mystery unfolding this way, then that, with suspects and motives coming and going all the way to the final ending, there’s a cold case, a stranger, threats, and more premonitions. The story also includes a budding romance, foster care kids, a Thanksgiving feast, and talk of the sooner-than-you-think Christmas planning. All in all a fun series, a prequel series not to overlook, and this book is a personal favorite!
Thanksgiving by the Sea is book five in the Haunting by the Sea series. I think this is my favorite story in this series. I love how it played out, and it kept me hooked throughout (as usual). Definitely one not to be missed.

Review:
The characters are well rounded and well developed. As is usual with this author, the characters seem so real to me and they feel like old friends. They are so close to each other and they always have each others backs. Amanda and Trevor are slowly moving their relationship in the romance direction, which is great.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. There were a lot of twists and turns in this story and I was happy to go along for the ride. The paranormal aspects of this book add a lot to the story. It seems as though Amanda’s gift may be expanding.
I would recommend this book (and series) to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy. I am already looking forward to the next book.
Thanksgiving by the Sea is the fifth episode in the fabulous Haunting by the Sea paranormal mystery series.
This story takes place in Cutter‘s Cove, Oregon, about a week before Thanksgiving. Amanda Parker is on her way to a weekend getaway with her best friend, Trevor Johnson, when she receives a call from Officer Woody Baker, asking for help on a case. A local social worker was shot and is fighting for her life. Soon after, a local attorney who often worked on cases with the social worker was shot and killed. Amanda works with Woody and her other friends to uncover the answers to the many questions they encounter during the murder investigation and various mysterious circumstances.
This book is filled with the elements of a cozy mystery including suspense, danger, romance, love, friendship, and a sense of community. As always, Ms. Daley’s writing flows smoothly, and her setting and relatable characters make for an extremely enjoyable read. I could hardly put the book down. I look forward to the next book in this series and the potential Christmas magic it may contain.
It was great to connect again with Amanda and her friends in this 5th book in the series Haunting by the Sea. This book, as with the others, can be a stand alone but if you are like me, you will want to get to know the characters from the beginning and keep up with what is happening in their lives. This story is an intriguing well thought out mystery with several murders and twists and turns that will keep you guessing till the end. Also, the interesting activities and ongoing interactions with the characters and community make this fast pace cozy mystery one you will definitely enjoy reading if you love small town cozy mysteries.
Another clean yet complicated mystery with many twists and turns.
While law enforcement usually shies away from asking for help of a paranormal sort, this time Amanda is called in to help on an investigation precisely because she has an ability to speak with the dead, or rather speak to ghosts who choose to talk to her.
With help from her friends, local lawman, Woody, as well as her protector from her years in witness protection, Amanda (et al.) take on some tough issues and some kids feeling lost within the system.
Are they looking for one criminal or more than one? How are the cases linked?
Is Amanda’s past coming back to haunt her also?

Thanksgiving by the Sea is the fifth book in Kathi Daley’s A Haunting by the Sea Mystery series. This well-plotted mystery is intriguing and complex, and the affable characters are well developed. This is a fast-paced cozy mystery with a touch of paranormal activity. There are lots of twists and red herrings, and the reveal was a surprise to me. I highly recommend all Ms. Daley’s books to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted cozy mystery.
After returning from what can only be described as one of the worst cruises ever, Amanda Parker, her two best friends, Mackenzie “Mac” Reynolds and Trevor Johnson, and Mac’s business partner and boyfriend, Ty Matthews return to Cutter’s Cove, Oregon. Mac and Ty sneak off to an unclosed location to enjoy some couple time. Amanda and Trevor are leaving for a weekend getaway touring the San Juan Islands when she gets a call from Officer Woody Baker, asking for her help tracking down the man who shot Trinity Rosewood, a local social worker, who’s in a coma. Since Amanda has the ability to see and hear ghosts who need her help crossing over, Woody is hopeful she and her alter ego, Alyson, might be able to communicate with Trinity, and learn who shot her. Since Trinity isn’t dead, Amanda doesn’t think she’ll be able to help, but she agrees to try. While looking at a newspaper, Amanda has a flash of a man being shot. She mentions her premonition to Woody, and he tracks the man down, but not before her flash turns into reality. The murdered man, Bryson Teller, was a local family law and child custody attorney, was working with Trinity on difficult cases, which raises the question: are the shootings related. Amanda’s mother is visiting, and they are planning a Thanksgiving feast. On impulse, her mother invited Donovan to join them in Cutter’s Cove for Thanksgiving, Amanda’s witness protection handler, who surprises everyone when he accepts the invitation.
