Lone Star Suspense #3, Only connected through characters each book in this series is a stand alone. Rhett Hall came to Texas to check on his sister and decided to stay a while hoping to find some inspiration for his next book. Unfortunately the tattoo artist he had been seeing breaks it off with him, in a bad mood with a need to just drive to see more of Texas so he rents a car and does just that. But somewhere outside Austin a ways driving way to fast he hits a deer and wrecks his rental and ends up in the middle of a mystery surrounding a ranch and it’s beautiful owner.
Sierra MacKenzie has enough issues with her ranch she doesn’t need some city slicker coming in and making her feel all gooey inside like Rhett does. She shouldn’t be trusting him as easily as she does but something about him is trustworthy and he’s proven he can be. Someone has been cutting her fencing, poisoning her cattle, and now they burned down her horse barn. She knows the company who wants to build a huge development on her land so they can have highway access is behind it all she just can’t prove it. But after the horse barn she calls in her hot shot attorney brother and between the three of them they can figure out what’s going on and who, local, is behind all the incidents and hopefully tie it all to the big developer. Meanwhile the chemistry between Sierra and Rhett runs hot, and they both give into to temptation.
Overall, it was a fantastic read. It was an exciting non stop page turning story that had me hooked from the beginning. I loved the characters and the situation they found themselves in and how they got out of it. I kind of hope Dylan MacKenzie gets a book now.
Texas Reckless, the latest romantic suspense tale from Gerry Bartlett, begins when a stranger climbs the fence into Sierra MacKenzie’s ranch property outside Muellerville, Texas. That’s not the beginning of her troubles, though—she’s already dealing with mysterious cattle deaths and accidents, and a development company that wants her land for its highway access. Maybe this fellow who wrecked his rented car at the end of her driveway is not to be trusted.
But Rhett Hall (we met him in Bartlett’s previous book, Texas Trouble) has nothing to do with those problems. He simply hit a deer, wrecked his car, and can’t get a signal with his cell phone. But he manages to charm the lady who greets him with a loaded rifle into letting him in, not suspecting just how long he’ll want to stay.
Soon Sierra and Rhett team up to investigate the escalating troubles at the ranch, as well as the long-ago barrel racing accident that changed Sierra’s life. She’s determined to run the ranch, and her horse therapy classes for troubled children, without help from her wealthy family back in Houston, and Rhett is soon just as determined to help her.
But her resistance to the development project threatens the economic well-being of the residents and local businessmen of Muellerville, many of whom have invested in the development project. Are one or more of them trying to convince Sierra to sell—or drive her off her ranch by any means necessary?
Suspense—and romance—build as Sierra and Rhett fight to live long enough to find the answers, and a future together.
So many western romances feature an alpha cowboy/rancher hero and a heroine in need of help, but this one turns that old story on its ear! Sierra owns a horse ranch that she loves and is fighting forces that want to drive her out to build a seniors development. Rhett is an author who ends up on the ranch by accident, but soon sees the danger she’s in and wants to help.
This story took unexpected twists and turns that kept me turning the pages to see what happened next. I always enjoy Gerry’s Texas stories and this one did not disappoint! Highly recommend!
Texas Restless is Gerry Bartlett’s third book in her Lone Star series. Rhett Hall, who we met in Texas Trouble, is an author who has an accident near Sierra MacKenzie’s ranch. Sierra’s been dealing with her own problems and doesn’t trust the stranger who climbs her fence looking for help. But when her problems escalate into danger, the two work together to save her life as well as the ranch. And somewhere along the way, their chemistry moves from heated fights to steamy sexy times. This is another great book in the Lone Star series you won’t want to miss.
Sierra MacKenzie is the quintessential Texas girl, independent and hard-working. Even though she comes from a wealthy family, she’s determined to make it on her own. Years ago, when a barrel-racing accident permanently damaged her leg, she suspected sabotage. Now, she believes sabotage is once again behind the rash of problems plaguing her ranch. The development company pressuring her to sell has the support of her entire town. Any one of them could be behind her troubles.
So, when a handsome Yankee wrecks his car right at the base of Sierra’s ranch drive and climbs her fence, supposedly looking for a hot spot for cell reception, she’s not sure if he’s the lost writer he claims to be, or someone else sent to hassle her. And what’s worse, she’s attracted to the guy, even though she’s not sure she can trust him.
Rhett Hall came to Austin to check on his sister in the second book in this series, Texas Trouble. He kinda likes the whole Texas vibe. He takes a road trip looking for inspiration for his next book, and finds a feisty, sexy, gun-totin’ rancher. Not only is Sierra hot, she’s smart and stubborn, too. He’s fascinated, and convinces her to let him stick around a while.
When random events at the ranch surpass harassment and threaten Sierra’s safety, Rhett knows he’ll protect her, whatever it takes. Her attorney brother, Dylan, shows up to help out, and it takes all three of them to figure out what’s goin’ on and whodunit. There’s twists and turns galore, danger, threats, and yes, even car chases. Sierra is independent and loving, and Rhett is totally charming. Great characters, great romance and a great suspense.
Texas Reckless by Gerry Bartlett
Lone Star Suspense #3
Author Rhett Hall has a bad day that becomes a whole lot better when he meets Sierra MacKenzie. Her life also improves when the two of them meet. Rhett iis researching his next book and staying on Sierra’s ranch is where he lands to suss things out. Little does he know that not only will he pick up small town Texas characters, dialogue and ideas but also fall into helping solve a mystery that might also threaten his and Sierra’s lives.
What I liked:
* Rhett – nice guy in more ways than one
* Sierra – a woman with a dream to fulfill – rich but not clueless
* Finding out who was behind the troubles being caused for Sierra’s
* Sierra’s brother Dylan (is there a story for him in the future?)
What I did not like:
* The meanness of some of the people in the town
* The problems Sierra had to face in the past and later on in this story
* That some of the bad guys got off easier than I would have liked them to.
Did I enjoy this book? It grew on me
Would I read more in this series? I think so.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Lyrical-Liaison for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
Sierra runs a ranch and is having a lot of trouble. Someone is trying to run her off because she won’t sell so a senior citizen community can be built. Rhett is a best selling author and is driving through when he hits a deer right in front of Sierra’s home. After hearing about her troubles, Rhett decides to stay and help her figure out who’s wants her gone. But when the “accidents” are becoming more dangerous, will they figure out who it is before it’s to late?
Good story with lots of mystery and suspense. Some of the dialogue wasn’t believable, mostly if there was arguing. It is a nail biter.
