The Marines. The Few. The Proud. The toughest of badasses. And a Marine never, ever cries, even if she wants to.
Vanessa Britt loves her job with Brotherhood Protectors until she gets her next assignment…guarding her ex-husband, or as she thinks of him, that dirty, rat-bastard who broke her spirit and her heart. She has never turned down an assignment, not in the Marines nor Brotherhood … Brotherhood Protectors, but protecting her ex might be harder than being a Marine.

Talk about having a bad day! Vanessa Britt gets assigned as a bodyguard to her jerk of an ex-husband. Oh joy! Craig Devlin is a best selling author and part time college professor. It seems he’s gotten himself a stalker. Nessie shows up at his house with a fiery, no nonsense attitude and promptly lets him know it’s strictly business between them. Only one problem, he didn’t get the memo. While trying to convince her the threats are inconsequential things start to escalate and he’s forced to make an admission that derails any progress he’s made with her. Crazy town comes calling with near disastrous results and it gives these two a second chance to get thing right.
Texas Marine Mayhem by Cynthia D’Alba is more proof that Ms. D’Alba can write a book that will keep your rear glued to the chair and your kindle glued to your hand. Ms. D’Alba has delivered a book that is not only well-written, but is also loaded with outstanding characters. Vanessa is sent as a bodyguard to protect her ex-husband Craig. Their story is loaded with drama, humor, action, suspense and sexy bits. I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to reading more from Cynthia D’Alba soon. Texas Marine Mayhem is book 3 of the Big Branch, Texas Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I really enjoyed this book by Cynthia D’Alba! I’m definitely looking forward to reading more stories by Cynthia in the future.
After leaving the United States Marine Corps Vanessa Britt started working for the Brotherhood Protectors and the most recent assignment that her boss has sent her on is to protect her ex-husband Craig Devlin. Now all she has to do is do the job and walk away when it is done, but that is easier said than done when seeing him for the first time in ten years brings up all of those old feelings.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
I quickly found myself lost in this second-chance romantic suspense novella. Ms. D’Alba knows how to pack a full-throttle story in a limited amount of pages. I really loved that the tables were somewhat turned…Vanessa is an ex-Marine turned bodyguard and is assigned to protect her ex-husband. There were plenty of twists, turns, and sparks flying to keep me reading. If you are looking for a quick read that packs the heat, this is it! As with most novellas, there isn’t a ton of character-building but you still feel invested in the characters and their story.
I received an ebook copy from the author and I am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts on the story.
Not one of my favorites. Vanessa is ex-marine and hired by her ex husbands brother to protect him. He’s been getting death threats, and she put him thru college while they were married and he didn’t treat her right. She left and joined the marines and thought they were divorced. Funny how things play out.
