It was a nice love story set in the west showing what two people can accomplish during a time in period when it shouldn’t have been possible.
A very good take on the early days of Texas.
I love to read historical romance that has facts from the time period, this book explains/shows incite to the issues of the times and setting.
I really enjoyed this book.
Well written characters. Story set at the time of the Texas Revolution and Indian Wars. Shows the intertwining cultures of Texas that have always made our great state a true and unique melting pot. Lovely story of a blended family.
I like Western books, especially romance and suspense.
The characters are unique and exciting. At times unpredictable, which makes it a fun read!
Enjoyed this book very much
enjoyed, would recommend
I enjoyed it
I love most of Patricia Rice’s work, but this particular story is one catastrophe after another. I liked the characters. The complete open-mindedness of the heroine is hard to believe for that time period – it’s almost hard to believe for modern day. It was just too sad for me with so many unhappy things going on.
Awesome characters with Lily and Cade. Wishful thinking that more men could be thoughtful as Cade
I’m from Natchez, Mississippi, and I appreciated the shout-out for my home town!
I loved that this was a longer book!! Such great characters you can fall in love with!
This is the first book I have read about the transition of Texas from a Mexican territory to a Republic. It is the background story of the love life of Lily who starts out as a pregnant Southern belle. She proposes marriage to an older man who agrees to raise her unborn child as his own because they will be entitled to double the farm spread in Mexico. When she is widowed, she hires the “monstruo” Cade as her foreman. I could not put this book down. It was that good.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s a huge complicated love story that is also a mystery. The four main characters have pretty dysfunctional history in their families. There are lots of trust issues and personal issues that make their expectations of love rather complicated. If you don’t want explicit, steamy love scenes, then this is not the book for you. There’s lots of action, danger, suspense, twists and turns, murders and mayhem. The story is set around the time of The Alamo before Texas was admitted to the Union. I loved the ending.
looking forward to reading more books by Patricia Rice
touches on prejudices and reminds us that they are without merit.
I really enjoyed this story.MJ Clarke
