Slow start but with good details. Details of the land and the families and how they fit. The main characters were good and had an excellent cast of supporting people too.
After the slow start, the book does start to pick up at about 33% or so on my kindle. When this story took off it really did. I’m glad that I stuck with it because things really got interesting and with a whole lot of action. Then it begin to really keep me riveted to the story.
I enjoyed the quiet romance between Erin and Luke. People and situations kept trying to get in the way. But after they climb over all of that there is a H.E.A. headed their way. I know that might have given part of the story away. But you really don’t know how all of that was worked out, now do you?
I had to shake my head over Erin a time or two. The things that she is keeping secret so that it doesn’t overload her father. I get it but still it’s a dumb move. Almost guaranteed to come back and bite her in the butt. Of course, her father hasn’t exactly been totally upfront with some important things either.
I do give Erin credit for being knowledgeable when it comes to the ranch and her love for breeding and training her horses.
There is some irony when it comes to who the “trigger” is in this story. But there is also a whole lot more danger hanging around this family. And responsibility after responsibility keeps coming down on Erin’s shoulders all at once. Good thing that she comes from tough stock and was raised to be that way no matter what. She’s going to need every ounce of that.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
Janet Daily writes awesome books with great story plots
Janet Dailey – The Tylers of Texas Bk 6 – Texas Forever – Reviewed 9/12/20 – Read 9/3-4/20
When greed takes over, death will follow, if you are not careful!
Will Tyler, known by everyone as “Bull”, let Erin know that he had hired a new hand. Erin had been working beside her dad for years. She had been taught by Jasper, her dad’s best friend since she was knee-high to a grasshopper. She knew horses in and out, and her dad had plans for her to take over the ranch when he retired. Even Sky Fletcher the foreman had been teaching her for as long as she could remember. She trusted her dad and knew if he had hired someone, there was a purpose for it.
Luke Maddox’s line of work was not that of a cowhand, he was a damn good farrier. He also knew that the right thing to do is to steer clear of the boss’s daughter! But OMG, she is a beauty, and the only thing that he could think of was laying claim to her. He knew that her father had big plans for her, and that did not include falling for a ranch hand that worked with his hands.
Arriving late in the evening Luke pulled in and was greeted by Erin. She takes one look at him and some sort of strange feeling creeps over her. Not understanding, she is taken aback by it. Thinking to herself, dang it, she already had a boyfriend, Kyle Cardwell, who had even asked her to marry him. First things first, she lets Luke know where to bunk and what will be expected of him. Finished, she starts for the house, but she turns back and tells Luke that he had arrived at a bad time for the Rimrock ranch. There had been a death and things were not to steady around there.
Four months earlier Erin and Bull had lost Erin’s mother to cancer. She just could not fight it anymore and it took her. This devastated her father; she was hurting too but she knew that she needed to be there for her dad. Now Jasper has been taken from them. Jasper had started at Rimrock working for Bull’s grandfather, he had been like a second dad to Bull, and a grandfather to Erin. This cruel accident has set them both back. Erin for one still cannot believe that it was an accident, but now is not the time to investigate it, nor is getting married! She must stay strong for her dad and the ranch, especially now that they are in the middle of the worst drought that Texas had seen in years!
And the story begins……
What did I like? I guess by now, everyone knows that I grew up with horses and ranching life. I certainly felt kin to Erin and the life that she is living. My grandfather, his brothers, and almost all my cousins are ranchers. So, horses have always played a major part in my life. When I saw this as a giveaway on Goodreads, the first thing I thought is that could have been me. Well, did I ever take a step back! Having had several losses in my life, I understood the feeling that both Erin and Bull were going through. Also, I remember back about falling in love with one of my dad’s employees. Of course, I think I was about 8 or 9 when this happened, so I guess that might not truly relate to this story but, heh, close! I do remember though living with my grandparents in the panhandle of Oklahoma during one of the worst droughts that had been seen for years. I know the talk around the table was always what can we do??? Something like that, something that you cannot control is devastating. Then add the deaths, and it is no wonder the brutality of the situation how it could overcome you. Knowing what my grandparents went through, made this book even more real for me.
What will you like? This book starts off with a bang! Mystery climbing higher than the rooster on the top of a barn. Then it just does not stop, it follows the storyline right to almost the last page. If you love horses, then you are certainly going to learn a few tips from Luke. He indeed was a damn good farrier. Janet was exceptional in her research, add the excellent descriptions and details, and you can join Luke and Erin on this amazing ride to the end. I know that I could hear the ping of the anvil, smell the Texas landscape, and felt the anguish in everyone. The love, despair, and hate abound, with all of it taking everyone and dropping them in the middle of the storyline, which was beautifully written and edited. This is indeed an excellent read and will be a great addition to anyone’s Western Library.

I loved this book. It should be made into a movie. It was really hard to put the book down.
The dramatic conclusion to the exciting Tylers of Texas series! FIVE SHINING STARS!
Reading this final book in the Tylers of Texas series felt almost like coming home. I know the sprawling Rimrock Ranch and the entire Tyler family so well by now: Beau and Natalie, Sky and Lauren, Jasper and Rose, Will and Tori and their daughter, Erin. This book focuses on Erin, all grown up at nineteen and destined to inherit the ranch when Will dies.
Here’s a bit of the plot but no big spoilers, because nothing should spoil the suspense of a Janet Dailey book! As heiress to the ranch, Erin is expected to marry a well-bred, educated man–someone qualified to help her run the ranch someday. But her heart will have its own way, and she falls in love with hunky Luke Maddox, a newly hired farrier who’s quite a bit older and has lived a rough life. Does Will Tyler approve of this unlikely match for his daughter? Heck, no!
But Wills’ disapproval is only the start of Erin’s problems. Due to a severe drought and other issues, the ranch is in serious financial trouble, facing imminent foreclosure. Deaths (natural and otherwise) further complicate matters as Marie Fletcher–a villainess in an earlier book–returns to the Rimrock, hired to kill Erin by any means necessary. Marie isn’t the only character with murderous schemes, because another villain is determined to kill Erin’s father.
The plot is full of dramatic twists and turns as encroaching danger threatens the ranch and the growing love between Erin and Luke. Will the villains win? Will Erin lose her father, her ranch, and the man she loves? Will she even survive? I’m not saying. Fair warning, though: just as in real life, not everyone gets a happily ever after ending. There’s grief as well as joy in this stirring tale.
You’ll find no vulgar language, just one semi-steamy sex scene, and no grammatical or punctuation errors. I highly recommend this book and the entire Tylers of Texas series!
Diana Palmer’s Texas stories are always good.
Loved It
I won a copy of this book through Goodreads and I was not required to give a favorable review. If you have read any of the other books written by Janet you will find that hard to put down. This one shows that love can do e through tragedy. Erin has lost her mom to cancer and now a man she thought of as her grandfather. But someone is trying to hurt her, and her boyfriend won’t take no as answer to his proposal. Luke is starting work as the farrier for the ranching he falls for Erin.
This is the sixth book in the Tyler’s of Texas series. The setting takes place on a Texas ranch and has an engaging storyline with realistic characters. Erin and Luke are brought together when Luke is hired to work on Erin’s family ranch. There is suspense, romance and many twist and turns to this story.
Luke is not the type of man Erin ever thought she would fall for but yet she can’t seem to stop her heart from caring about Luke. Luke is not the settling down type but when it comes to Erin, everything changes for Luke. Luke immediately jumps in to help Erin and keep her safe. He is protective and caring and loses his heart along the way. Janet Daily knows how to write characters that are easy to connect with and and a story that keeps me wanting to read more.
Very simplistic relationships,
An emotional roller-coaster ride of the best kind… brilliant! This action packed adventure if filled with intriguing charters, heart racing moments and undeniable passion…. an excellent reading experience! Really enjoyed this story teller style of painting a picture and taking you on a journey.
I haven’t read a Janet Dailey novel in 25 years. I forgot how great she was a telling a tale. I went thru all the emotions. Great primary and secondary characters. I really enjoyed this. I am saddened to see how much strife this family has endured. I feel like every time you looked up something else was happening. Not happy with the last few chapters. I don’t want to spoil.
Revenge, murder, passion, this book has it all!
Janet Dailey continues the Tyler Saga In Forever Texas.
The Tyler’s have lost their best friend, an honorary member of the family, and the glue that kept the Ranch together.
Loans, taxes, and drought are draining the Rimrock, faster than water in a funnel.
Erin has grown into a young, beautiful, smart lady with a good head on her shoulders and Will knows she’s the future and needs to give her the rein’s to run The Rimrock.
But there is a price to pay, a killer is lurking in the shadows and Erin’s their target.
Then the unthinkable happens, it’s a tear jerker and total shock.
Best book in the series, you’ve got to get it. If you’ve not read the others, no problem, this one catches you up on everything.
Extraordinary book!
Erin has just graduated high school and lives with her father on the family’s ranch. She is being groomed to take over and is learning all she can. Luke is a farrier and is hired to shoe the horses on Erin’s ranch. When her father is killed, he’d had an argument with Luke and now he’s a suspect. As they work to clear Luke’s name, someone else is stalking Erin. Can they figure out who killed her father before something else happens?
Good story. Mystery and steamy. Luke is older than Erin and at times it shows. The only thing that bothered me was they had only a couple of conversations and they are in love.
