Annorra is not a shifter, but not human. Annorra lost her mom when she was young, but she was always told to never reveal her powers. Annorra was left with her uncle who was NOT a good person. Rufus finds her a safe place in a school for paranormals where she is put in a group of 4 other misfits. What happens when you put 4 broken males together with one severely abused female?
I was hooked from the beginning. The heroine is such an original paranormal with unusual abilities. There is no love at first site. The males are all different and quite original paranormal as well. I’m looking forward to finding out more about Camden and Xander. The story is not st all slow, you jump right into the action from the start. I am hoping book two is out, because I need more! Oh and this ends in a cliffhanger.
Annora is a fierce MC – she escaped from her uncle after years of abuse, and is still a fighter, but doesn’t really understand the supernatural world. The guys are each unique, and at times I wanted to yell at Camden. I loved Mason, Logan and Xander. I need an Edgar 🙂 The story does end with a bit of a cliffhanger, so hopefully book 2 is out soon!
Tethered to the World was a one-night wonder from Stacey Brutger and I fell in love with yet another one of her books. Tethered to the World is much darker than her other books so I’m providing a warnings list at the end of the review for those of you who would prefer to be forewarned. (warning are available on my site : https://www.onceuponatimeireadabook.com/2019/09/review-of-tethered-to-world-by-stacey.html to avoid any possible spoilers)
Annora winds up at a paranormal university rooming with her new male teammates after she saves her boss’ life one night, she makes her very first friend, gives a troll a hornjob (you read that right), and hits a mythical beastie in the Forbidden Zone all on her first day. Talk about eventful! As Annora and her new teammates learn to work together and trust one another, they work on solving the mystery of the disappearing college supernatural co-eds. And, oof! is that one a doozy.
I enjoy Ms Brutger’s writing style, Tethered is fast-paced yet the story easily shifts from one scene to the next without leaving me behind wondering “wait, what about….?” I’m always left wanting just a little bit more of her characters every time. I love you, Xander! But I was dismayed that we had the ‘infinite money’ trope rear its well-disguised yet still ugly head, credit cards from the school or mega-rich packs and then we’d switch to Annora who’s over there counting her pocket change and rationing food. There’s a major difference in the power scale there and it makes me nauseous just thinking about it.
This may a relatively slow-burn romance series, but y’all. Reading this felt like that one time I was pulling my cast-iron skillet out of the oven and I forgot to grab a towel and grabbed it barehanded, then whacked my arm on the inside of the oven when I jerked back. Much with the burn. So, don’t read this around folks if you blush easily. Those boys will destroy you and you’ll love every second of it.
Overall, I give Tethered to the World 4 out of 5 stars and 4 flames of spiciness. If you’re an openminded individual who likes some grit and bite to their colourful reads, I recommend Tethered to the World. I can’t wait to read what happens next. No, really. This book ends on a cliffhanger. I need to know what happened!
Wow! I was sucked into this book from the first chapter and didn’t want to put it down! The FMC has the ability to go into the afterworld and make people either suffer or die. The way it was written was actually really cool and not cheesy like i was afraid it would be. All the MC’s have pasts filled with torture and pain, none of them are trusting and the way they all met was great! There were parts that could have been dragged out and it would have been fine but overall I loved this book. I want more time with Mason and can’t wait to see what happens next!
4 stars for Tethered to the World by Stacey Brutger. This is book one in the A Phantom Touched trilogy. This is a reverse harem and was a little on the dark side. Annora was in captivity held by her Uncle after her mother dies. Now she is in a school for supernaturals learning how to use her abilities. She is growing closer to the team. I will say this book is what I would consider a slow burn but there is still plenty of passion / romance in this book. The chemistry was great. I am ready for book two.
This is so well written and leaves me wanting so much more. I wish I could write a review to do this book justice, but words fail me right now. I loved everything about this book and can’t wait for the next one to come out.
I loved Annorra’s growth in the book and how she learned to trust. I also enjoyed the twist with Edgar in the end. Lastly, I look forward to her and the guy’s sexy times because I bet they will be fantastic.
The pacing was great, the action was there, romance was a quality subplot. There was nothing I can think of at the time of this writing that I disliked about the book. That doesn’t mean that when I come down of this high I won’t be able to pick it apart and look at it critically, but this was just so well done and the world-building was phenomenal.
Lastly, I loved that Annora was strong without being over the top and without being a damsel. She wasn’t the most powerful one in the room and she had her weakness and knew them. But she wasn’t so brash as to overestimate herself and run headlong into the unknown. She listened to reason and that might be her best quality.
