Fantastic story and characters….love the way May McGoldrick brings back several members of the Macpherson clan introduced in other books. After several books in this series, the reader begins to think of these characters as “old friends” and is anxious to see what happens next.
Tess and Colin
A very sweet read. I loved the characters, except two bad guys, of course. Colin and Tess fell in love pretty fast and I was a bit saddened that Tess did not feel the couple that raised her was a real family. Definitely worth reading and telling your friends about.
I love the family in this book and I recommend the next book with the older brothers is one of my favorite books.
This is a beautiful, sweet story of a young Highlander, Colin Macpherson, who washes ashore on an island and is rescued by its sole inhabitant, Tess. Tess has lived on the island since she was a child but could not recall her life before she was rescued by the older couple who lived on the island at the time. The McGoldricks take you on a journey unraveling the mystery of her past while also conveying the fears and emotions of a young woman who has not lived amongst other people, who does not remember having a family, who does not feel a sense of belonging to others or to a place. It is this emotional depth of its characters which makes a McGoldrick story worth reading over and over again. Colin’s sensitivity to her needs and his recognition of her inner strength made him a perfect partner for her. I cried for the young Tess but was later overjoyed that she would be welcomed into the embrace of a family such as the Macphersons as well as the people of her own clan. A satisfying read suitable for even a younger audience as there are no sex scenes.
A sweet tale….
One of my top 10 romance authors.
Absolutely love historical romance and this did not disappoint. The comradity between the brothers had me laughing. Wonderfully written.
I loved this whole series! I couldn’t stop – I had to read them all. I fell in love with the Highlanders – and May McGoldrick!
Too much fluff.
I think we can all see why I needed to read this book. As a Tess myself, I found it my duty to read it. There was no steam…which was a little disappointing, but the chemistry between the leading couple was pretty good. I did find the leading lady’s behavior a little…unlikely. From island recluse to natural, well-spoken clan leader seemed a stretch. Overall it was a good story with likable characters.
I enjoyed this book until it stopped! I really felt it needed more of a wrap up or an epilogue.
‘Hero’ is a defiantly corrupted rake. He rescues the heroine from a truly repellent specimen od her family. Fascinating but I felt guilty cheering them on! Then I bought another Anne Stuart book!
Good tead
Enjoyable – want to read more from this author.
So many inconsistent story lines or drove me crazy. A young woman who had been lost to her family at about six on a remote island knows proper cultural behavior on her return at 18. Her hair is red then blond. I could not look past this poor chatacter developement.
I really liked this book. It was well written, a sweet romance and well developed characters. However I would warn readers that the next book “Much Ado About Highlanders” is not a sweet romance. I purchased it and stopped reading early in the book due to vulgar sexual references. I thought after reading Tess and the Highlander I had found a new author I could but on my favorites list, but after reading a small portion of the next book realized how wrong I was. I am frustrated that Amazon does not require authors to but in the descriptions of their books whether or not there is graphic sex and/or strong language – their failure to do so forces readers to pay for books they don’t want to read.
