Terminus by Pete Brassett is a Scottish police procedural mystery. Brassett’s writing plops the reader right in the middle of the action in a police investigation. The plot is solid, with an abundance of clues sprinkled throughout the story and a surprise ending. The characters are multi-dimensional; good at their job, even when they must chase down false leads, are overworked, and very human. This series would make a great Netflix series.

This is an interlude book. It bridges between the last novel and, I presume, the next. In other words, it is a cliffhanger. Yuk…
DI Jim Mumro is recovering from being hit by a car intentionally. There is CCTV of the car, and surprise, surprise it belongs to one of the characters from the last book. And the driver, well that is no surprise either. All of the characters who did not die in the last book are back again.
Along with DI Munro, are Charlie, Dougal and Duncan. They make a great team. I love their interactions, shot through with a sense of humor. For a little light reading, dive in!
I’ll have to read the next in the series to find out what happens.
I do not read many books. I did not like the was some of it was worded!
Like the whole series
This book did not move along as fast as most of the books I read but was a good detective story with many twists and turns. It took place in Scotland so the nuances were hard to get sometimes but always understandable. I enjoyed it very much. I recommend this book for anyone who likes a good mystery story.
Crime drama set in Scotland. Very Scottish dialect. NOT a stand alone novel.
Uninteresting
I love an intelligently written British procedural with interesting characters, and this is one.
Detective Inspector Munro solves another case with his dogged approach and keen insight. Was surprised by the ending.
Enjoyed Scottish dialogue and felt transported to Scotland with vivid descriptions.
Hard to read
Loved the setting, richness of language and culture along with the intricate ins and outs of this plot!! I recommend it!
I enjoyed the detective and feeling a part of the village and town
It was an interesting read. It was a bit hard to follow at times, but I came in at the end of the series. While it was a stand alone, reading the earlier books might have been beneficial. Some of the Scottish colloquialisms could have benefited from a Glossary. Quite a twist at the end.
I was taken down memory lane, back to my own visits to Scotland, citing places I had visited. I felt right at home in the story. It was a police story in Scotland, which takes a bit of knowledge most Americans don’t have to follow the character development at the start, but one does catch on easily enough. I was not able to divine the guilty party until nearly finished reading, which I find unusual and quite well done.
A very dark, depressing book. I read about halfway through and stopped.
I enjoy this series.
Got hooked on the series!
Murder mystery based on Scotland. Witty and entertaining the only problem is the book is a cliff hanger. The main character disappears at the very end
Decent mystery. Nothing to object to, but I think it assumes that one has read the previous 4 books in the series. I kept thinking I didn’t know something about the characters that everyone else did.
I liked the characters and the well crafted mystery very much but be warned, while the book can be read as a standalone, it ends with something of a cliffhanger.
