A fast-moving sweet romance that sweeps you off your feet.
This book winds its way into your brain until, you finish it and are left feeling as if you going to miss your peek into Emmeline and Romney’s world. The characters are great but that is especially true because they’re relatable. As they work through personal demons and issues you find yourself becoming invested in what happens more and more. I love that although the book is romantic it doesn’t shy away from real life situations and emotions that take relationships deeper and challenge them too. It’s wonderful to see the journey that takes place as the book progresses and I want to spend more time with these characters and the supporting characters in the future.
Heartwarming romance with amazing characters. Great chemistry between the main characters Emmeline & Romney as they deal through their issues and secrets. Very well done and an awesome story.
Tender Possession by Amber Cross is a heartwarming romance with very appealing characters. Emmeline has been cast away by the death of her mentally ill father. Her whole life is adrift. She somehow ends up in a bar where she meets Romney the youngest child in his family. It is love at first sight on Romney’s part not so much with Emmeline. Romney introduces her to his family’s rum which she overindulges and ends up over sharing her many secrets. Romney being the kind of guy that he is, is willing to do what it takes to take her pain away. There are quite a few ups and downs but all’s well that ends well. This is a very poignant story with a HEA.
I was gifted this book by the author and I decided to volunteer to read and review it.
Amber Cross could have written a simple love story and I would have been fine with that. Tender Possession takes it a step further and dives into the psychology of being alone with secrets that no one else will believe and what it does to mold the personality of the one who had to endure them. Trust is a remarkable thing when it’s earned and Romney does his best to earn Emmeline’s. Two people could never be more different, culturally, physically, personality-wise, yet Cross creates a distinctive and undeniable chemistry between the two main characters of her book. Everyone deserves a Romney in their lives. Great read.
this book was really great! she is always been the one to help others. than he comes along and she is not sure she can trust him and depend on him. read to find out what happens.
Amber Cross is new to me and I love her way of writing.
Tender Possession was such a heart full read I was hooked in
from the very beginning.
Romney and Emmeline are so perfect together. I honestly wasn’t
sure what would happen and honestly I was scared of what the
ending would be.
This book was well written and kept my interest throughout the whole book.
I highly recommend this book to everyone and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Amber Cross, ‘Tender Possession’, (Love in the Kingdom, book 2).
As a Hidden Gems ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is. English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.
Rating: 4 stars (of 5).
In general: a sweet love affair in a complicated situation.
Main characters:
– Emmeline Charbonneau.
She’s a nurse in Somerset, Vermont. Her father, a policeman, died after many years suffering from shot wounds caused in the line of duty. After the shooting he became another man, drinking too much, suffering from anger outbursts and obsessed with red haired girls like his wife who departed a few months before he was shot. Emmeline (then 10 years old) cared for him as good as possible for a long time. After the funeral she was smitten with grief and stumbled into a bar. The supposed bartender listened to her sad story and tried to comfort her with a traditional Bahamian drink, Gullywash. She got very drunk and awakened in a guest room with an enormous hangover. She was helped by the famly of the bartender, barowner David Wilson, his sister Abby (a judge) and her husband Glen, Emmeline’s cousin.
– Romney Wilson.
Younger brother of David Romney was the supposed bartender. In reality a talented computer programmer who was by accident behind his brother’s bar when Emmeline entered. His grandparents came from the Bahama’s and with his family (Abby, David and parents) he spend a lot of his holidays there. Now he’s travelling through the country for his work, living with his brothers and sisters.
He was smitten the moment he saw Em walking into the bar, but – after hearing why she was so unhappy – realised that he had to be very careful while helping her, for she had a very bad youth and was broken after her father’s death.
Romney helps her when the police collects her dad’s police objects and his photos from all the red haired girls he stalked. She starts to trust him a bit and reacts less bitchy as she was used to do to every man who approached her friendly or flirting.
Together they visit Abby’s home to have a family dinner. The family asks Em to care for their grandma at Andros, an island of the Bahama’s. Grandma (‘Ma’) had a minor heart attack and fell. Now she needs a nurse and companion to care for her. Em agrees for she wants a ‘time out’ to arrange the family affairs after her father’s death and to recover from her grief.
After the family dinner Em and Romney kiss for the first time.
The author, Amber Cross, describes how their relationship develops after this first kiss.
They fly together to Andros. Caring for the grandma is an easy task so they have a lot of time for sightseeing, swimming and hiking. And making love. But developing a permanent relationship is difficult: Em has to deal with her problematic youth, her fear for commitment and the overwhelming presence of Romney’s family, especially after his Grandma’s sudden death. Romney is troubled by her wish to keep her distance from all his family members and her fear for his way of living: no permanent home but only travelling or staying at some guestroom of a brother or sister, working on his laptop. All these changes make her panicky. Her confusing feelings are described with insight and it makes the characters credible and the book pleasant to read.
