This book grabbed me even before I started reading it because it is based on a true story.
I have been wanting to read this for awhile—-and I am glad that I finally read it.
I could not put the book down.
I should have figured out who was behind this earlier but I did not catch the clues.
Since this was taken from some real-life situations I felt Rose Willow did a fantastic job of making it her own story. It was emotionally charged from beginning to end. The ending definitely surprised me. After letting it sink in for a few moments I thought, yes, life is full of twists and turns for all of us.
One glaring problem for me was when Julie’s mother was looking for her daughter and calling out “Hello, Hello”. and her footsteps could be heard by the children, but she could not hear the children. Yet they were all screaming, crying, calling out and banging on anything they could to get her attention. This was definitely not believable.
This tells the story of 10 girls kidnapped from their school by being diverted to a different bus. The kidnappers send the parents nursery rhymes as one by one they are placed in dangerous situations with only the ingenious Rebecka Franck to rescue them. The detective in the novel is bumbling and seems to sit around waiting. The story contains several subplots, Jane a domestic violence victim whose own children are removed from her, and Rebecka and Sune – Sune is recovering from an accident. While the book generally held my interest, it was less and less believable as it progressed. Loosely based on the Chowchilla kidnappings in the 70s — that story was a straightforward attempt at ransom — unlike the convoluted plot here. I won’t spoil it, but honestly cannot believe the mastermind would want to wreak havoc like this on innocent families and children.
This was my third Willow Rose book. It followed the same kind of format as my first one- telling 2 stories, one present tense, the other in the past, and having them come together in the present. I really enjoyed it the first book. This one not as much. By halfway through, a couple of things became predictable. There were also a couple of things about the ending that weren’t really believable. It was a good read, but I’ve probably had my fill of Ms Rose, at least for a while
based on a true story about a bus of girls hidden
Very good
I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend
Author kept you guessing until the end
It kept me reading from page one . I didn’t want to put it down needed to find that happy ending.
Excellent story, strong heroine
Great read…suspenseful!
I was disappointed by this book. I like a good mystery and don’t mind it being odd or unrealistic if it’s entertaining. This book’s premise was so completely fat fetched. The combining of the two stories at the end just did not hold up.
Even though this is a fictional story, I remember when the true story happened here in California. That was probably the only reason I read this book.
Liked the mystery of the story, bu the ending was a bit flat.
great mystery!
Hated plot about child and spousal abuse and not proper help before , during or after. Based on true story. So sad!
The story is basised on some facts in the news. I thought this was really a page turner. I found myself trying to get the end of the book. I dreaded getting to the end but is was so intriguing.
Things I liked about the book: It was an easy read; based on a true story; short chapters. Things that I didn’t like: too many things to suspend my belief for; i.e. the girls could her footsteps thru a thick layer of dirt, yet mom couldn’t hear the screaming etc from the girls.
It was two stories in one that did mesh together in the end; however, the main character Rebekka (a civilian mom whose child was part of the plot) was the detective and the detective was her lackey. Not the usual combo when a kidnapping of so many children are involved. I’ve not read any other Ms. Rose’s books and not sure from some of the reviews that I will. I thank you for writing and know that you can’t please everyone.
Very unusual ending. Not what you expected
Great book
