One killer. It was supposed to be the weekend of their lives—an exclusive house party on Henry Island. Best friends Meg and Minnie are looking forward to two days of boys, booze, and fun-filled luxury. But what … to two days of boys, booze, and fun-filled luxury. But what starts out as fun turns twisted after the discovery of a DVD with a sinister message: Vengeance is mine. And things only get worse from there.
With a storm raging outside, the teens are cut off from the outside world . . . so when a mysterious killer begins picking them off one by one, there’s no escape. Ten is a modern, young adult take on the Agatha Christie classic, And Then There Were None. But even readers who are familiar with the ending of Christie’s novel will be caught up in the tension and unpredictability of McNeil’s murder mystery. Ten is fast-paced and suspenseful, and it will keep readers guessing until the end.
This book is very much in the same vein as the Christopher Pike books of my childhood. There are scares, mysteries, a little romance, and a whole bunch of “what the heck is going on”. I really enjoyed this book because you really aren’t sure what is going on until the very end.
3.75 stars. Thin, easy-to-follow, high school who-dun-it plot. The deserted island and creepy mansion locations add great atmosphere. There could have been more twists and turns and red herrings, but it was still a fun read.
I had chosen this book last year because the cover looked very interesting to me. When I read the little summary of the book it provides, I was like “Ooooh, Yes!” I really liked the suspense that was in the book. I really enjoy murder mysteries and this book gave the murder mysteries genre a great book. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys …

I had high expectations for this book. It has a great premise. The ending was disappointing.
First time I’ve ever read a book by this author and I will be reading more.
TEN by Gretchen McNeil is a young adult murder mystery. Normally I love this genre, but this book just didn’t do it for me. There were too many times that the characters had me rolling my eyes that I contemplated not finishing it. However, I trudged on because the book was fast paced. Ultimately though, I just couldn’t find many things that I …
I really enjoyed this book.
I love horror. This fit the bill there. Was it super scary? Not really.
It had mystery, a bit of violence and gore, but because it was such a whodunnit, it lacked in scare factor.
Still it was a great mind bend!
In the last few chapters especially. It took me where I was like, what the heck?! How?! Then the author …
Actually a bit dull. It reminded me of an old horror movie, rather than something fresh.
Very good for what it is – a young adult version of Ten Little Indians. I only wish I had realized initially that it was targeted to a young adult market as that explains why it was somewhat superficial and derivative. Nevertheless pace, plot, setting were enjoyable.
For kids
This is one of the first fiction audio books that I have listened to and all I can say is, WOW. Ten had me on edge the entire book and what is crazy, I didn’t even come close to guessing the ending, which, drives me crazy but also means it was a great book!
The story centers around the main character, Meg, as she travels to this island for a …
Was a teen version of and then there were none which I liked
Loved how Meg had her diary and solved it
I picked up Ten on a recent trip to the library and I really liked it. It’s YA mystery thriller which is not my usually choice to a read but this one had me hooked right from the beginning. There are ten kids spending the weekend on an island partying. Being that there are ten characters there are a lot of different personalities. Some …
Think Agatha Christie’s “And then there were none” but with teenagers . Readable but not particularly original.
I have not yet finished the book but I am really enjoying the read.
Great read in the YA Horror category.
I’m uncomfortable with the fact that Ms. McNeil took the basic premise of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, updated it and replaced the adults with teenagers, but couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge Mrs. Christie. Maybe it was better that way though, because frankly, this book isn’t in the same league as the original. Many of the …
Speaking as someone who grew up reading Agatha Christie, this book flipping rocks! TEN is a fantastic modern homage to AND THEN THERE WERE NONE.
Gretchen McNeil is a master of suspense with a delightfully dark and creepy sense of humor. The pacing and the build-up were spot on. She managed to throw in a romance without it feeling too contrived. I …
