From USA Today bestselling author Kiersten Fay comes this smoldering-hot tale of a lethally seductive dragon king and the beautiful earthling he cannot resist. On his way to reestablish an old alliance, Tristan Okora, king of the dragon shifters, discovers a beautiful human female aboard an enemy vessel. He offers his protection until she can be safely returned to Earth. But the more time he … time he spends with Juniper Jacobs, the faster he falls for the little mortal.
Meanwhile, amidst the trouble brewing in his kingdom—a terrible rumor that threatens his crown—Tristan must make a difficult decision; accept an arranged marriage with a neighboring princess, or risk everything for the beguiling human.
TEMPTING THE DRAGON KING is the first book in this Shadow Quest spin-off series Dragon Lords. And while this series will focus on hunky dragon shifters, humans, and witches, there will be plenty of cameos from the original series.

Emotionally thrilling journey filled with exciting and engaging charters, witty dialog, heart racing twists and action packed adventure. Really enjoyed this sexy, fun and exciting story.
Tristan Okora is King of the Dragons. His world will be changed forever when he meets Juniper Jacobs an earthling who has accidentally been bought into space. They are both recovering from loss of family and see in each other sole mates. There is plenty of romance and action when they are betrayed and attacked by their own people. A surprise ending brings the story to a close well. I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Tempting the Dragon King by Kiersten Fay brings action, suspense, and engaging characters to this science fiction paranormal romantic suspense novel that is the first book in the Dragon Lords series. It’s set in the same world as the Shadow Quest series, but each book can be read as a standalone. Tristan Okora is the new king of the dragon shifters. As he is traveling to renew an old alliance, he and his team discover a human female aboard an enemy ship. Juniper Jacobs was hiking in New York when she saw metal glinting in the woods. When she entered the spacecraft, it took off with her inside it. Tristan offers her protection until he can return her to Earth. However, there’s trouble in his kingdom.
Tristan and Juniper are both likeable characters. They are strong in their own ways, but also have vulnerabilities which make them more relatable. There’s a strong cast of secondary characters as well. With humans, witches, dragon shifters, aliens, fairies, and others, the book brings together a strong mix of individuals. Who will be featured in the next book in the series?
The author paints a vivid picture throughout the book without interrupting the fast pace. There are aerial battles, physical fights, steamy scenes, magic, and much more to keep the reader turning the pages. There are a few unanswered questions that could be threads leading to future novels. Difficult pasts, family, romance, love, humor, domestic abuse, child abuse, friendships, honor, grief, duty, resilience, and bravery are integral parts of the story line.
Overall, the novel was action packed, emotional, steamy, and entertaining. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series as well as reading more of the Shadow Quest books.
I love Kiersten Fay’s Creatures of Darkness series, I didn’t like the first book of her Shadow Quest series and this one… I’m not quite sure. It’s a quick, fun, smutty romance, but I’m used to much better stuff from Fay
Writing style: I love Fay’s writing. I can’t quite describe it, it’s just fun and easy, but it always has an edge to it. I don’t know why I’m so addicted to her writing, but I am and I’m not complaining. She writes such great men who are all for women empowerment, but can also do the whole cavemen act pretty well
Characters: As mentioned above, Fay knows how to write men. It wasn’t any different with our male love interest in this book AND HE’S A DRAGON KING FROM ANOTHER PLANET
Our main girl was pretty fun to read about, but she really could have had more personality… Everyone could use a healthy dose of extra personality to be honest. Everyone was a little two dimensional which was a pity.
Story: It was fun, quick, and verrrrry smutty. Unfortunately, because of all the smut there was very little plot. It was fast paced and most of the time it was too fast… This story should not be published yet, it needs some work. It should be fleshed out more and some plot holes should definitely be fixed. The smut was tastefully done though, so that was nice.
All in all, if it wasn’t Fay writing this book I might have DNFed it or given it an even lower rating. I’ve decided to go with two stars for this one.
Fabulous details throughout that place the reader right into the story. Great chemistry between all of the characters and plenty of action and steam.
Great Narrative, very captivating, fantastic exciting new world exploration through science fictional characters. You can easily find yourself engulfed in the pages of this book. Kiersten Fay never ceases to amaze with her exquisite writing.
Loved Tristan and June. They were adorable together. Their banter was so cute and hilarious. You could see that they were each other’s half. And his mom was something else. Props to June for not backing down and giving that beat of a prospective fiancé her due karma. And kinda felt that the rumors were probably started by her and her father to help expedite the marriage between their clans. Loved June’s fight for those weaker d need of protection. Their steamy moments and carnal attraction was hot. Loved the end and how she transformed into the future they both needed to remain together.
of love and magic
Dragon shifters on their home planet? Allied with the planet of the Fae? Sometime foes of the witches? And into this strange mix steps – Juniper Jacobs, of Earth. June is all that is best in humanity, a survivor, a warrior, an empathetic and wise soul with a snarky mouth and a stunning beauty. Of course, the dtagon king wants her. Of course, his fiancé doee NOT. Flying fists, flying insults flying dragons, flying spacecraft, and incendiary love scenes grace a SF alien/dragonshifter romance that captivstes from beginning to end.
Ok confession time here because I actually read the follow up to this Seduced By The Dragon Lord first without realising that this was available. Frankly I wasn’t as enamoured with it as I’d hoped but realise now that this isn’t meant to be a sci fi romance series but actually a paranormal romance that just happens to happen on another world so more like Dragon Lords by Michelle M Pillow.
This book pairs up newly crowned King Tristan with June who accidentally triggered an abandoned alien space ship on Earth. She’s clearly worried but adapts very quickly to the idea of aliens that can become Dragon’s. Tristan is still struggling to come to terms with the recent loss of his father and knows that there’s the beginnings of unrest amongst some of his subjects. Luckily June provides a huge distraction but not everyone is pleased about her arrival !
This was an easy, quick and entertaining read for me and actually connects to the Shadow Quest series which was my first read by this author. I did like most of the characters here but will say that for me it was June who stood out the most and made me smile. She’s such a feisty, bold person although there is sadness in her background which gave her a well rounded personality. There is a little action here but I think it’s predominantly about the relationship that this couple form. Yes there’s friction, tension and treachery here too , not to forget meddling relatives ! This is a passionate romance involving Dragons, Witches and even adorable children and I very much enjoyed this story.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
This is the first of the Dragon Lords series, a spin-off of the Fay’s Shadow quest. This is King Tristan Okora’s story, a dragon/alien shifter and June a human trapped in the ship. I love the romance and steamy scenes in the story, definitely like the emotional side of it all and how family losses brings them together. I like the plotline, it intrigued me with the mystery and suspense behind it, there is a lot going on and I can’t wait to find out in the next books.
Kiersten Fay’s Tempting The Dragon King is devastating… it will take your breath away. This pananormal story has suspense, danger, action, intrigue, and romance. I loved it!! I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgallery and am enthusiastically leaving an honest review. #TemptingtheDragonKing #NetGalley
Tempting the Dragon King is a marvelously refreshing paranormal romance! It isn’t just a paranormal romance, but you also have the added pleasure of a space and plant element to this incredible journey. I love when an author can weave more then one compelling twist to an already amazing story line. It only makes the story shine that much brighter, and this one shines so brilliantly that you will have to look away at times.
Tristan Okora has just experienced his heart being viciously torn from him with the death of his father. This was nothing he ever anticipated or foreseen, so he is left reeling and forced to pick up the pieces and the heavy mantel left by his amazing father. He doesn’t know if he can be half as good of a leader as his father was, but he will give it his all. Juniper Jacobs made one careless mistake which landed her as a prisoner until the truth of her arrival is sorted out. She is made a guest of Tristan and his mother as they figure out how to get her back home. While she finds herself inexplicably drawn to Tristan, she fights it until he obliterates her last defense. Can she save her heart, or will she find that something she never even dreamed of could be her greatest gift and treasure?
I loved how no nonsense Juniper was. She didn’t let Tristan get away with anything, and he enjoyed that push and pull with her. She challenged and made him better, and he saw that and wanted more. He wanted forever, and yet he had to fight for it every step because of a painful past she had to endure. Tristan had to prove his love and devotion were true and honest and would last the test of time. Of course, that was no burden for him because he knew he would never make it without her by his side.
This is the first book that I have read by Kiersten Fay, and I was left thoroughly entranced and wildly entertained. I couldn’t get enough of her incredible characters, and her story line was full of delicious twists and wicked turns. I hope to be able to dive back into her brilliant world of shifters who love with their whole being.
I have to preface this by saying that as soon as I saw that this was spinoff of the Shadow Quest series, I squeed inside; quite loudly. If you’re a fan of that series, you should enjoy this one as well. If you haven’t read those (why not?! They’re awesome!), you can read this book without any worries about being lost. The story is well caught up, though you won’t know some of the old characters we get to meet up with and won’t quite get the emotional weight of some of the history. Still, completely ok to read standalone, I promise.
Written in third person omniscient from both leads point of view, the book is about a hapless human woman who manages to stumble into and alien spacecraft abandoned on earth before being hurtled into space and eventually rescued by a dragon shifting king and his mother (oh how I love her!). June is spunky and holds up amazingly well considering how much ‘new’ is thrown at her in a short period of time (aliens, dragons, space travel, magic, demons, fairies…yeah, she’s been dunked in the deep end). Tristan for his part is equal parts heartbroken, overwhelmed, and smitten. That balance is certainly an interesting read.
The two of them don’t come together under the best of circumstances, and as with any of Mrs. Fay’s writings, there is a good bit of heartache and sorrowful backstory underscoring the story, but it meshes well and she handles it with care. June suffered abuse as a child, so if that’s a major trigger, be warned. Again, it’s well cared for and she uses that to find her calling and her strength. Talk about overcoming adversity. Tristan’s fathers recent demise during the big battle weighs heavy throughout the book, as one would expect for both a beloved monarch and father.
The chemistry between the two is there from the start, and the steam between them (along with physical fun) is off the charts. Their romance comes along to bite them in the rears because of course they didn’t see it coming (gotta love that). There is plenty of action to be had too: dragon shifting and flying, magic use, some good old fashioned fighting, and even a little friendly rumbling. The relationships across the board made for a great character base; from the friendships, to the siblings, to the parents and beyond. I am looking forward to the next books and wondering who will feature in them. I am also still itching to see how this space race is going to go! I presume we will have a Lear or Adrian book and that will be it (read Racing Hearts if you haven’t; another short and sweet plugin between the two series that has Tristan’s younger brother briefly introduced).
If you’re into emotional, action packed, steamy, family-centric, magic wielding paranormal/alien filled stories with phenomenal world building, this is a great read for you!
Love this! June is bold, strong-willed and feisty. The King is intrigued, instantly drawn to her and knows how to romance her. They both have some family baggage which I thinks makes them even more relatable to one another. Exciting, magical, intense, heartwarming and even a bit of humor, well-rounded paranormal romance. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What would you do if you found spaceship on your walk in the forest? Go in and explore, and when the ship takes off? That has Jun done and the ship has her flown to an adventure of her life. Tristan still mourning the death of his father is still trying to accustom to being a new king and when an innocent sassy human comes in his life everything will change for him. This is great SF read with great characters and a lot of humor. I especially loved June she is so strong and caring, Tristan was perfect for her.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley
Tristan inherited his throne after his father died in battle. He tried everything he could to save his father, he thought he had many mare centuries before the throne would be his. But all is not well on his planet, there are those who think his crown is on a shaky peg and will do what they can to usurp him!
Juniper went for a hike one day but ended up on alien shuttle which self-launched! After eating pretty much everything on board she thought she was going to die in space. She may get blown up first if the ship that finds her has its way! But once the misidentification is cleared up Juniper is taken onboard Tristan’s vessel and on to safety.
Tristan has vowed to get her back to Earth – but will he be able to let the tantalising human go?
There are fire fireworks galore between these two! Tris wants to do right by his people and make an arranged marriage to shore up his position but Juniper is who his heart and beast want. There are lots of twists and turns and plenty to keep your mind occupied.
I love this new series and can’t wait to see what happens next. The characters have depth and personality and can be very snarky!
Tempting the Dragon King is the first book in the Dragon Lords series by Kiersten Fay. Tristan, a dragon shifter has been thrust into the position of King after the premature death of his father. When he meets Juniper, a human who found herself lost in space after being trapped aboard an abandoned spaceship she found when out walking, the attraction was instant but can Tristan tie himself to a woman who’s lifespan is measured in decades rather than the centuries of his own people – and you thought all you had to fear from a walk in the woods was the random bear or rabid squirrel!!!
In this book the main thing that draws the hero & heroine together other than the obvious sexual tension is that they are both wounded people burdened by the grief and guilt they feel over their respective losses – Tristan seeing his father die in battle and being unable to save him despite his best efforts and Juniper who lost her younger brother to a heroin addiction after an horrific childhood filled with abuse. The story itself is easy to read and drops hints of future plots for upcoming books such as the mysterious power hungry witches who also live on Legura. There are also several interesting secondary characters such as Orik, Tristan’s friend and his two brothers to the albino witch who saves the day when everything seems lost. I’m looking forward to perhaps reading more of these characters in any subsequent books in the Dragon Lords series.
Tempting the Dragon King is a spinoff of the Shadow Quest series, picking up not long after the battle to save the Faieara on Evlon from the Kayadon, in which his father, King Mar, was killed. He is heading back towards Evlon for a celebration when he comes across Juniper (June) from Earth coming towards his ship in a Kayadon vessel. The attraction between the two is instantaneous and though he feels obligated to marry a neighboring planet’s princess for status, soon realizes that June is the only woman for him. Dragon King is hot, action packed and contains an unexpected twist at the end. Great start to a new series – I am looking forward to reading the next.
I loved this book. The scene with June transition had me riveted. The description was epic and I went back and read it twice. The ending was very good with a book for the next book. I look forward to reading that one too. I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and freely leave this honest review.
Tempting the Dragon King is the first book in the Dragon Lords series and a spin-off of Fay’s Shadow Quest series. King Tristan Okora, a “drop-dead gorgeous hottie with a lick-worthy physique,” is an alien/dragon shifter who rescues June, a human, after she becomes trapped in an alien ship and hurtles across space.
Near starving and desperate, June is relieved to be rescued by Tristan and his kind mother and even more relieved when they promise to return her to Earth. However, the more time Tristan and June spend together, the more they fall for each other. Will June return to Earth, or will Tristan convince her that she’s meant to stay with him?
This romance is steamy!! Tristan is so enamored by June, and he finds her intoxicating to the point where he has trouble keeping his hands off of her. June is equally enamored with Tristan. However, she has no long-term expectations, unlike Tristan.
June, a victim of childhood domestic abuse who has suffered much tragedy and loss in her life, is not as quick to trust and fall in love, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying what they have. Since she has never really experienced love, she isn’t as quick to admit her feelings. Tristan has been surrounded by love for his entire life and expresses these feelings much easier. He realizes quickly that it’ll take some work and time to convince June that her place is by his side.
What I love about their relationship, besides the piping hot sex, is that they support each other, physically and emotionally, from the start of their relationship. Both Tristan and June feel a tremendous amount of guilt for losses in their family – Tristan over the death of his father, and June over the death of her mother and brother. The shared grief and guilt connect them and draws them closer. They understand each other in a way that others don’t.
The quick and humorous banter throughout the story is also a delight to read. Tristan’s mother is fabulous, as is his best friend. Tristan and June also have some comical conversations especially when her curiosity gets the better of her. I love how Tristan and June bring out the best in each other and those close to them support their blossoming love.
Another aspect of the story I like is the interesting world-building. The story takes place across several planets, each with different beings, cultures, creatures, and communities. Fay’s skill in developing such vivid and immersive worlds is a highlight of the novel, and I hope to learn more about them in the rest of the series.
In addition to the love story, several other conflicts transpire. Tristan is a newly appointed king with rumored dissension on his planet. False accusations relating to his father’s death haunt him, and a potential fiancee (hate her!) waits for his proposal. On top of that, there are conflicts with mysterious witches who live on his planet. These sub-plots become significant as the plot progresses and add a bit of suspense and action to the story.
This is a quick-paced and fun read about two lost souls who make each other whole again. I enjoyed Tristan and June’s love story and look forward to reading more of the series. Plus, the dragon scenes are really cool! Thanks to the author and Netgalley for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
