I absolutely love Jo Beverley’s work, and this one did not disappoint. Great story, amazing characters, and so anxious to read the next in this series!
I enjoyed this book but found it to be a bit slow at times. The story was entertaining and I enjoyed the characters. I really liked Bryget but Portia was a frustrating character and I’m not sure how he put up with her. I am looking forward to learning about the rest of the family though. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
Jo Beverley’s writing is top of the list. Her stories are authentic and engrossing. She’s the best!
Although I enjoyed this story, it was a little slow at times. I found the hero, Lord Bryght be very engaging, I just don’t know how he had the patience to deal with Portia. She seemed to be quite intelligent in some things but in others, completely the opposite. Why she assumed that her brother had been cheated out of his estate, instead of Oliver being hopeless at gambling, I just couldn’t understand her reasoning. I did enjoy all the background knowledge of life at this time, especially for those with money and influence. I would love to read about the others in the family, especially the marquess himself. I received a copy via eBooks Discovery and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
One of the first authors I cut my historical romance teeth on. Read this book a long time ago but it might be time to break it out again. She never wrote a bad story in my estimation.
The River Thames is rising. Written in the Malloren world Bryght finds himself ensnared by an unusual beauty. Portia is trying to keep her brother from gambling and to save her family from losing their estate. It is a well written story with characters engaged in trying to outplay each other. The author uses excellent language skills to show the characters at their best.
Trust is a big issue in this book.
I admire Jo Beverley’s stories like this one that has so much depth to it. The characters of Portia and Bryght completely drew me into the piece. This was a fast moving piece with great twists and turns that were so engaging. The ending was wild with Oliver, Portia and Bryght and I am happy to recommend it. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery and voluntarily chose to review it.
You can’t help but fall in love with Bryght. Portia is such a conflicted character throughout this book that you wonder if she will truly have a HEA. Bryght falls in love with this feisty, impulsive maiden and those things that cause him love her are the same things that drive him crazy. He quickly realizes she is the one for him, embraces it but also realizes that she could easily slip away forever. Therefore, he keeps trying to trap her and bind her to him because he can see she loves him. She keeps resisting since she can’t imagine a future that doesn’t end in disaster because of Bryght’s gaming regardless of any reassurances he gives her. This struggle occurs over the course of several different truly outlandish situations before it is resolved. It is a great ride along the way even though you keep thinking why doesn’t Portia just talk to Bryght. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery and this is my voluntary, honest review.
Portia and Bryght grabbed my attention from the very beginning of this very intriguing story that was well-written with characters that were so well detailed that I couldn’t put this book down until I finished reading the very last page!
Jo Beverley is one of the best storytellers.
Fast read and good romance
Good story with a bit of a twist. Characters were well developed and most enjoyable. Romantic with just enough steam to be enjoyable without being blatant. I enjoyed it, I am sure you will too.
Fabulous read from page 1 to the epilogue, well written Jo Beverley, liked the characters better than Cyn and Chastity, looking forward to more in the Malloren series.
