”. . .Rapier wit and comedic timing lure readers into a romance that proves laughter is best shared with those you love.” —RT Book Reviews
“The characters of Whit and Mira are what drive this story, and they are delightful. Whit is just the right mix of aristocratic power and quick witted intelligence with an added mix of wonderful concern for those in his care. Mira is brave and intelligent with a strong self image despite her horrible circumstances of birth. It was hard not to root for them to find love together.” —Goodreads

Whittaker/Whit Cole, Earl of Thurston, is every debutante’s dream. He is handsome, rich and a prime catch on the marriage mart. He is reputed to be one of the most unflappable gentlemen in all of England. Nothing puts him in a temper until he comes within 20 feet of Miss Mirabelle/Mira Browning. Mira lives on the estate adjoining his and stays with his family much of the time… The women in the Earl’s household believe divine providence sent Mira to live so close. Whit does not think that the divine has anything to do with it. Then he kisses her, and sparks fly. He wants to convince Mira to give fate and love a chance. – Whit is wonderful. I enjoy the banter between Whit and Mira. They are both quick and witty. Whit is honorable and protective of all the women in his family. Mira would have had a horrible childhood except for the Cole family, who are all likeable and loving. Mira is sweet except when around Whit, and she becomes argumentative. It is entertaining to see their relationship evolve. This is a good read.
It takes a near disaster to proof their hidden love.
A long ago deathbed promise was made, but now the unforeseen consequences are about to forever change two lives.
Miss Mirabelle Browning and Whittaker Cole, the Earl of Thurston have known each other since they were children. They have also been feuding for most of those years. Can these two charming people stop their bickering long enough to really get to know each other?
I am not a fan of page after page of angst. Which is why, as I began reading Tempting Fate, I was not sure I would like it. Fortunately, the bickering and insulting does ease up as the real story begins in earnest. Both Mirabelle and Whit are likable characters, but both have a healthy dose of pride, which ends up spelling trouble and near disaster. The plot is pretty predictable, with a couple of twists and turns to keep it interesting. The writing is good, and the pace is steady. I would have liked an ending with a bit more satisfaction, but Alissa Johnson did make the ending happy and sweet.
On a up note, I really enjoyed the cameo appearances that Alex and Sophie (from book 1) make in this second book of the series.
Content 411: This novel contains swearing (secular and religious), passionate kissing, some physical violence and an on-screen sexually intimate scene.
The chemistry between Mira and Whit lights up the page. This was a fun read, but with plenty of heart.
I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were fun.
Great characters! I only wish I had started with the first one in the series.
Good read
I don’t have a lot to say about this book. I read it this summer, but I don’t remember much about it; therefore, I would say it was an okay book. I remember the characters not getting along, but that’s it.
wonderful banter between the main characters, reminiscent of old time movies. Funny, entertaining and a good story. Totally recommend this author and this book.
This book was an excellent read. I would highly recommend this book to all of my friends that like to read.
This book was hard to put down!
I loved this book! Great characters!
Enjoyed
This was a fun book to read. It was very entertaining and the characters were fun.
This is a good entertaining story, with interesting twists and turns. Some descriptive sex, which I just skip over, but worth reading.
Loved the verbal sparring between the two main characters. I laughed out loud a number of times. I would have given 5 stars if it weren’t for the sex scene. If you are writing a historical romance please keep to the sexual morals of the time!! A hero concerned with bringing honor back to his family name would be very unlikely to act in what would be viewed as a dishonorable way by taking the ‘innocence ‘ of a young lady who he wasn’t even engaged to let alone not married to.
Great. I liked the interaction between Whit and Mirabelle. You could see the attraction developing between them
The passion with which this pair fight translates well into love. Light and fun read.
Captivating! A great read all the way through!
I Loved the story and loved the characters. It was the first time I read this author. I really enjoyed it and will be looking for more!
Good book
