If you love the Baine Chronicles with Sunaya, I think you will love this book. Annia, the main character was an Enforcer with Sunaya. This story picks up from Called by Magic, a prequel that gives the back story to this book. It brings in characters from the Baine Chronicles- Sunaya and her cousin Rylan. Highly recommend this series if you like action and intrigue.
A fun, dark ride through The Baine World!
Tempted by Magic: a Baine Chronicles World novel (Mischief and Magic Book #1) by Jasmine Walt is a fun, darker ride through the Baine World. I recommend if you enjoyed Sunaya’s books but are looking for something a little darker.

Some things to expect: Annia’s own adventures that are intertwined in Solantha life (you get small visits from previous characters), a possible love interest for Annia (or so I hope it turns into that in book #2), magic, shifters, enforcer work, enemies, steampunk elements, and lots of action.
If a strong female lead is what you’re looking for, Annia is it! I said this in my novella review- this series is a little darker than The Baine Chronicles, so beware going in. If you are not sure, check out Called by Magic: a Baine Chronicles World Novella (Mischief and Magic Book 0). For those who want to dive in and are not familiar with The Baine World, there is a glossary in the back to help familiarize yourself with the world.
I’m loving this series and cannot wait the future installments (I’m ready for at least five books, can we make that happen Jasmine?). I finished this book in less than 24 hours.
Parental warnings/trigger advisory: death, fighting, swear words throughout- s x10, f x19, hell x29, damn and pissed used numerous times as well, kiss on the mc’s knuckles from a guy, multiple pregnant women, sex slaves (being held prisoners/naked), mention of rape at a party (Annia hunts the guy down who raped the girl), gang activity, torture of a young man that results in death.
Oh my goodness……… this was a FANTASTIC read! I’ve been itching to dig back into the Baine world, and I love the new direction! Annia is proving to be quite the character, and I can’t wait to see what all she gets up to! This promises to have even more shenanigans than the Baine Chronicles, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Love, love, loved it and can’t wait for the next! Thank you for the opportunity to review this gem!
Annia is back and it looks like lots of change is coming her way! Thanks to Sunaya Annia has some protection concerning her new jewelry, but thanks to Garalina helping her here and there with some magic it’s bringing down some heat that Annia really doesn’t need on her job. She’s got a shifter with a major attitude problem gunning for her, and it’s creating some serious problems. Add in a Tua named Broghan and things just keep getting better and better.
Tempted by Magic is book one in Jasmine Walt’s Mischief and Magic series and this book is such fun! The characters are dynamic, the situations dangerous, and sprinkled throughout are more than a few funny moments. Annia is reluctant to use the magic that is afforded her by Garalina, but when the situation calls for it, she uses it. I have to say that I find the Tua Broghan to be so much fun! I absolutely love him. Even if he does bring some mischief down on Annia accidentally. I have to say that I’m REALLY hoping for some romance between Annia and Rylan! He’s absolutely got my vote at this point! LOL!
There isn’t anything that I don’t like about this book! I devoured this book as quickly as I could! Yes! It is THAT good! I like how engaging the characters are and how true to life that they are. They are flawed, but well done and it really makes the story.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I can’t wait for the next book in this series! If you read the prequel to this series and enjoyed it then I highly recommend that you grab this book up!
I am yet again so happy to be back in this world, and I love it! Annia, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, might become a favorite for me over Sunaya. She is uncomfortable with the magic her new “body mate” wields, but because of certain events, she must overcome this reluctance. I was heartbroken about why she did, but I’m glad she did. Now, I’m looking forward so much to her adventures with everyone in the next book. This book was a well-written addition/offshoot of the Baine Chronicles, and if you liked those, you’ll like this one! I highly recommend this book and was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
This book brings us back to the Baine Chronicles world with the focus on the character of Annia. I’ll be honest, it has been a while since I read the first installment of the Baine Chronicles. I was worried that I would be lost, but I quickly got reacquainted with the world Jasmine created that I love so much. Jasmine did a perfect job of revisiting the happenings in the last books without making it overwhelming, boring, or too little information. This book is the perfect introduction to a new portion of a long standing series. I think it can be read as a stand-alone, because it is written so well, but it’s definitely an enhanced reading experience reading the previous series first.
The story itself is really good. I love the characters and the whole feel of the book. I’m excited to read the next book in the series!
I so adore the magical world Jasmine started with her Baines Chronicles and I honestly cannot get enough of it! From Sunaya to Fenris and now on to Annia and her magical partnership with Garalina, we have had plenty of adventures and tales to enjoy!
And what a fantastic start we have with Tempted by Magic! Lies and rumors are being spread about Sunaya and vicious violence is being perpetrated by gangs extorting shop owners in the rebuilt streets of Maintown. Who better to solve the puzzles than Annia? Along with the sinfully gorgeous Ryland and at times Garalina they set out to solve the crimes. Having to contend with animosity from a jealous enforcer and a reckless Tua does not make any of it easier that’s for sure.
We also get to catch up with some of our favorite characters, which is always a treat!
Plenty of adventure awaits in this new series and I cannot wait to see where it goes!
I have been waiting anxiously for this series and Tempted by Magic, Mischief and Magic: Book One is even better than I could have imagined!
The very beginning drops us right into the story. We meet Garalina right off and get to know Rylan better. I just love the characters and the story. The interpersonal situations are realistic and I found myself emphasizing with Annia and her friends and acquaintances.
I can’t wait for Book 2, Seduced by Magic.
Well worth the wait to finally get to read a book from Annia’s point of view. Getting more of Rylan is just an added bonus. The two make a great detective team. Annia has to struggle with her new magical abilities and decide how and when she is comfortable using them. Seeing how she finds her way to using her abilities for good and also working with others when she has always been a lone wolf is so enjoyable. I can’t wait to hear about her next adventure!
So nice to visit this world again. Jasmine Walt has done an excellent job World building in these books and to be able to now see it through another character’s eyes is a wonderful way to continue the series. Having read the first series, and this book I cannot wait for the next. I would definitely recommend reading the first books however, you will get way more out of this book and many things will make more sense if you do that first. It has been like visiting old friends and never wanting to leave. I love the strong, independent female character, the hints at future romance, and the hope that her family will be able to heal, all while trying to navigate through many changes in society and personally.
