In USA Today bestseller TEMPTED BY LOVE…
Years ago, bestselling author Jack “Jock” Steele lost his girlfriend and baby in a horrific accident that drove a wedge between Jock and his family, keeping him from sharing a devastating secret. An aging philanthropist saved him from the brink of despair, and for a decade Jock cared for his ailing friend who became his family. Now his friend has passed away and left him a fortune—on the condition that he publishes another book. Jock is floundering, unsure how to rebuild the life he’d walked away from, much less find his muse, have another relationship with a woman, or even think about having a family of his own. But he can’t get his sweet, sexy new friend, single-mother Daphne Zablonski out of his head, and her adorable toddler must know something he doesn’t, because she wraps her tiny fingers around his heart and won’t let go.
Daphne has been through the wringer with her ex-husband and doesn’t believe true love is in the cards for her. Friends she can handle, but letting a man see her mom bod naked? Especially someone as strikingly handsome and unbelievably sexy as Jock? No, thank you. Besides, she has a toddler to chase after and enough fictional boyfriends to fill her lonely nights. If only her book boyfriends could make her body tingle the way one look from her mysterious neighbor does.
As Jock and Daphne’s friendship turns to something too tempting to deny, their lives take an unexpected turn. Can a man who has lost everything find redemption with a woman who has everything to lose? And then there’s that secret…

Tempted by Love is a fantastic start to the Steeles at Silver Island series. I loved every heart warming moment of this on. This is Jock (Jack) and Daphne’s story. You have met both in previous Melissa Foster books but now you really get to know them. Daphne is a single mom of an adorable little girl Hadley who knows who her favorite person is. You will just fall in love with Hadley as she pulls Jock and Daphne together. I love how Daphne helps Jock overcome his past and pushes him out of his comfort zone. They have such a pull between Jock and Daphne that will make you melt. I love this one so much. Watching the changes in Jock is something special. By the time I was done with this one I had a huge smile on my face. This book is just a fantastic read that I couldn’t get enough of. I can’t wait to watch the rest of the Steele siblings fall.
Love, laughter and sexy times: entertaining first salvo in Melissa Foster’s new series, The Steeles of Silver Island.
Daphne Zablonski is a divorced single mom who loves her almost three-year-old daughter Hadley with all her heart. Hadley always comes first. Her ex-husband left her and Hadley one week after Hadley’s birth because he never wanted to have kids. (What a jerk!) That was a tough time for Daphne to get through but she feels she has come out of it a stronger, better person and a good mom. She enjoys her job as the office administrator at the Bayside Resort. This is where her friends are and Daphne really enjoys their companionship and their breakfast get togethers before she starts work. Lately she has been a little bit distracted though. Maybe more than a little bit! Jock Steele is staying in the cottage across from her apartment above the Bayside Resort’s main office. There’s just something about him. It seems that Hadley has a thing for Jock too. Unfortunately Jock doesn’t have a thing for Hadley. He backs away from her every time she runs to him. So this attraction she has for Jock can’t go anywhere. She and Hadley are a package deal.
Jack “Jock” Steele is still getting over the death of Harvey Fine, his philanthropist friend who Jock cared for the ten years prior to Harvey’s death. Jock had been lost and as low as a person can go after the accident that killed his girlfriend Kayla and their baby boy. On top of that his twin brother Archer who was Kayla’s best friend blamed Jock for their deaths so the brothers have been estranged for ten years. Harvey helped bring Jock back from his despair. His past is an absolute mess. Then Jock met Daphne and something just clicked. He was so attracted to her but she has a daughter and Hadley’s attempts to get his attention trigger his fear of failing to protect his son who died in his arms. Daphne and Hadley deserve better than him.
Tempted by Love by Melissa Foster is the first book in her Steeles of Silver Island series. Melissa Foster always delivers an emotionally satisfying read and this is one of her finest. Her characters are very realistic and likable. Daphne and Jock have pasts that have greatly affected their lives. Their relationship leads them both to a good place where they understand each other and know quite well how it feels to be hurt. I really enjoyed the back and forth bantering between Daphne and Jock, especially the fun sexual innuendo. Little Hadley just about steals the show as she is the cutest little girl ever. The Steeles of Silver Island series starts out with a winner!
I am so in love with Jock and Daphne’s story in Tempted by Love. I have long awaited Daphne’s story and couldn’t be more happy with meeting the Steeles and discovering Silver Island. Jock and Daphne both have heartbreaking pasts and love for themselves, each other and their families helps heal them. Which is always a common theme in Melissa Foster books. One I love and always look forward to. The plot is well developed and has plenty of twists I didn’t see coming and quite possibly the best ending EVER. Melissa’s writing is impeccable and her stories are always the perfect escape to some place magical. Tempted by Love is the first in this new spin-off series and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the Steeles have in store for us.
Be still my heart….LOVED THIS BOOK This couple will have you crying, laughing, angry and sad but most of all they bring love to the front of everything they do. So looking forward to more of this entire family! I volunteered an honest opinion for this book.
I have been waiting for this story for what feels like forever. Daphne has always been a single mom to her little daughter Hadley, since her ex had no interest in being a parent. Hadley has always been a serious little girl but for some reason she formed an attachment to Jock, even though he had a hard time being around her. We already knew that Daphne had some issues she had to work through but now we find out what Jock has gone through & why he has a hard time being around Hadley. I loved how they grew closer as friends, opened up to each other & talked about all they had gone through. I was also touched with how much Jock’s relationship with his twin had suffered for years. This story will definitely tug at your heartstrings.
This is a good start to this spin off series. Jock and Daphne are two people that are truly damaged. Jock with the tragic loss of his girlfriend and unborn child and Daphne with the abuse and rejection that she suffered from by her ex husband. The pair find healing from their pasts and love for their future with the assistance of Daphne’s daughter Hadley. Also, in this book the characters from other series and books make an appearance so that everything is connected. This book was heart breaking at times but with a great ending. At risk of giving away too much, this was a great book that I enjoyed from the start just like all of the other books that Ms. Foster has written. I would recommend this book to others.
This is the first book in a new series but it’s connected with Melissa Foster’s other books. Even though I haven’t read all the other books, I never felt lost with not knowing all the other couples. Daphne is a single mother of Hadley, an almost three year old who doesn’t give smiles out to everyone. Jock is a troubled writer who isn’t comfortable around young children. Hadley is drawn to Jock even though he’s very reluctant to be the object of her affection. Jock and Daphne are drawn to each other but Daphne won’t start a relationship with Jock if he can’t be comfortable around Hadley. As Daphne and Jock get to know each other, he begins to work through his feelings about children and the tragedy that happened ten years ago that also affected his relationship with his twin brother, Archer. This book has so many emotional situations that tug at my heart. I’m looking forward to more about The Steele family on Silver Island.
This has to be one of the most emotional, amazing books I have read in a while. Melissa Foster creates a story so real; you feel every emotion these characters are feeling. You are with them every step of the way. Jock and Daphne both have a past filled with pain. But together they heal each other. These two were destined to be together. Even the cutest little 2-year-old girl, Hadley. From the minute she meets Jock she is attached to him. Of course, this scares him because of what he lost and any interaction from a child brings these unwanted memories to the surface. But somehow with Daphne and Hadley he is able to heal. They build a relationship that is what love is made of. Its what most couples wish for. So many tears in this story. Tears of sadness for the loss Jock has suffered and the wedge in his family but so many tears of joy Jock and Daphne and Hadley experience. You will not be able to put this book down. A beautiful, awesome, amazing, emotional story. A true love story.
Tempted by Love is the new series by Melissa Foster. The story focuses on Jack ‘Jock’ Steele and Daphne Zablonski. Jock lost some people special to him a long time ago and this has left him a little bit in limbo. After looking after his aging friend who has recently passed away, he is unable to rebuild his life, much else find a muse to help him with his creative block. Enter single mother Daphne, after being hurt in the past, she is just trying to raise her daughter and hide her mum-bod.
This is a bittersweet story about two people who are destined to be together but who must get over the things that life has previously thrown at them. There is a great build up in this book, not only for Jock and Daphne to go from lovers to friends, but also for the things that jock must overcome, such as not flinching every time Daphne’s daughter, Hadley is there or having an open discussion with his brother about the past.
This book kind of has everything that I would expect from a Melissa Foster books, from the feels, to the angst, the book keeps you wanting to turn the pages. There are previous characters form her other series in this book, but it doesn’t take away from the story that you’re reading, if anything it really brings the stories together and makes it more realistic with family, friendship and life all intertwining.
I can’t recommend Melissa Foster books enough and know that fans of sweet romance will enjoy this new series.

Tempted by Love (The Steeles at Silver Island Book 1) by Melissa Foster This is the first book in this series…but it has a lot of old friends returning in this story. Jack “Jock” Steele and Daphne Zablonski they are working to get past bad experiences. He has writers block and other hangups and she has a adorable daughter (Hadley) who knows what she wants. This story really touched me as I was divorced with a almost three year old when I met my second husband (married 46 years this past April) and I remember a lot of the same feeling that are in this book. Sorry can’t tell you what they are or I’ll spoil the book for you. Lots of feelings, laughter, tears and steam to get us to a very HEA. I can’t wait for the next book.
Once again I am reminded of why I love to read romance. This book is absolutely fantastic! It’s sweet, heartwarming and emotional with a nice healthy side of sexy. It’s even silly and funny at times which I love. As with all of Melissa Foster’s books, family and friendships are at the very heart and soul of everything. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, as Jock and Daphne swept me up in their special story along with little Hadley too of course. I adored their journey to their HEA so very much!! It is real and pure and just filled my heart up with love and fed my soul.
Jack “Jock” Steele may be tortured by traumatic events in his past but that man will definitely make you swoon! Daphne’s daughter Hadley was drawn to him from the moment she met him as you’ll find out this was not the easiest thing for Jock at first. Hadley is a definite scene stealer, because there is just no way you can help but to be swept up by her. She is absolutely adorable especially with “Her Dock”. Jock is a work in progress but so good for Daphne. He really sees her and is so drawn to her and Hadley but she is hesitant at first for obvious reasons. I love Daphne. She is so supportive and helps Jock face his past, fear and guilt. She is so strong and such a wonderful mom to Hadley. She is protective, sweet, good and kind and I just love her for Jock. He’s been through so much but with Daphne and Hadley’s help, he is finally able to really love deeply and live again. Their chemistry is as big as their love becomes and they really know how to heat things up. Jock treats Daphne and Hadley like they are the most precious things on earth and I fell so hard for him!! This was just a beautiful story with a wonderfully satisfying HEA.
ARC received from author for an honest review
If you have read my reviews, you will know that I have had my issues with the past couple of Melissa Foster books I have read. I won’t lie, I was on the verge of probably giving up on reading them for a while.
However, with Tempted By Love, we are back to the Melissa Foster stories that I adore.
We have met Jack “Jock” Steele in earlier books (as you know, all her series interweave) however if you have not met him before, you won’t feel lost.
The problem I have had with recent MF books is that to me, there was a lot filler. The characters got their sh!t together and then cruised for a big percentage of the book.
I won’t lie, I did feel that this was the way that Tempted By Love was going to go, however I was happy to say that this was not the case. Yes, Jock and Daphne do have their baggage, particularly Jock, but they did not just cruise until this became a big issue. They dealt with things in real time, no matter how difficult they were. And I liked the way things were done.
I loved seeing more of the characters we have grown to love over the years – thank you for the family tree at the beginning of the book Ms Foster, as I always feel a little lost with everyone!
There is a 3 year old scene stealer who will also steal your heart. If you don’t love Hadley, then you don’t have feelings, I swear!
Thank you too Ms Foster for bringing back my love of your stories.
Ten years ago Jack/Jock lost his son and the mother of his son to an accident. He stays away from his family and friends and takes care of an eccentric old man. Since he passed away, Jock has been floundering not knowing what to do. He is a writer but he has published one but and hasn’t been able to write since the accident. He meets Daphne and is attracted to her but there is one little problem. Jock hasn’t been able to be around babies and small kids since his son’s death. Daphne, a former event planner, has a two and a half little girl, Hadley, that she is raising alone. Hadley doesn’t smile for a lot of people but she loves Jock. Jock freezes up but if he wants any kind of relationship with Daphne, he must fight his demons and embrace the little girl. They go to the island he grew up on for his grandmother’s birthday and has to face his past.
Second chances. Romance. A sweet little girl. Two people who have been hurt and know what grief is. I loved it because there was no…she/he is too good for me or yo-yo back and forth. Jock and Daphne both now what they want and work hard to get it. I can’t wait to see who’s story is next.
