Tempted By Fire is the first in the enthralling new Dragons of Bloodfire series by New York Times bestselling author Erin Kellison.
Dragon shifter Thane Ealdian has waited six hundred years to avenge the loss of his family, and finally a clue has surfaced that implicates an old adversary. Thane will stop at nothing to seek his revenge, but to prevent violence between the clans, the Bloodkin … Bloodkin Triad has forced a mediator on him. Some upstart named Emerson Clark…
Emerson is fed up with all Bloodkin and how they’ve managed to control every aspect of her life. While she doesn’t believe that Bloodkin can shift into dragons—because, really?—she has to admit, they are exceptionally nice to look at. But once the mediation is over, she wants nothing to do with them ever again.
When Thane discovers that the clever and beautiful Emerson is the key to uncovering the truth, he has no intention of letting her go. Although she wants to run, she can’t turn her back on Thane or her intense feelings for him. His quest pulls at her heart, just as his nearness sparks something dangerous inside her. With evil in hot pursuit, sooner or later everything will ignite—the mediation, the shifter within her… and their passions.

DRAGONS, and one Dragon in particular. Thane Ealdian is old and tired of living when the 600 year old bones of his wife and infant son are found with clues to who murdered them so long ago. Now Thane is back on the hunt along with a clueless young woman who dares to do the right thing—no matter how dangerous it might be.
A very thrilling, captivating, and delightful story. Loved the characters and their interactions. Great ending too.
Enter the world of the Bloodkin..
Bloodkin – the dragon shifters of the world – are a real thing? Emerson doesn’t think so, at least not the dragon-shifting part. She hates the fact that somehow, she’s gotten onto their radar and now they seem to invade, and control, every aspect of her life. She works for them as a mediator, and when she’s assigned the dispute betweern Thane Ealdean and the Heolstor clan she’s so fed up with the “dragon” drama she’s ready to quit the job. Ealdean, as soon as he sees her, wants to keep her. He knows what she doesn’t, about dragons, about the dispute, and about Emerson… Hot and steamy paranormal romance with a uniquely imagined and well-constructed dragon-world, a bit of mystery, and memorable characters.
A romance mixed with magic and supernatural lore. It is packed with adventure. I found it was more steamy than having a lot of plot, but it is an entertaining read that you will plow right through.
I love her dragons – can’t wait for the next book!
This was fabulous to read. The characters a are wonderful and the emotions really come through. The plot kept me hooked from beginning to end and has left me wanting to continue to the next book.
There were some questions left unanswered, what happened to his wife and child’s body, did he get them back, and what did he do with them. Also when they go meet with the head honchos, what happens.. hopefully the next book will answer as it follows a different dragon that we have yet to meet.
Highly recommend reading this book 🙂
This was a great read and I am familiar with this author’s work as I have read most of her books from the Shadow series. There isn’t much to say here, anyone who knows me and have read my past reviews at all, know that I have thang for dragons. Enough said….4 brilliant stars!
I enjoyed this book and the unique world. There was action, romance and some humor. It was a quick read.
Loved the plot and specially the history behind dragons. This book has a different approach to dragon lore than previous books I have read. I wish the series was on Kindle Unlimited so I could read the entire series.
I liked this book and just bought the rest in the series. I wish the book was longer, but it covered the world of the dragon with more depth and creativity than dragon style books usually do. I really liked the main characters and wish that their story had continued. Old dragon weary of life meets young to be dragon in a tragic situation. Lusty!
Awesome book. I couldn’t put it down!!!
This book had a good story, not so predictable, good characters. I bought the next one too!
Very good
It was exciting.fast pace.
After reading “The Stone Gods,” I decided to check out Erin Kellison’s other books and found this one. Now I know she creates a unique take on a genre.
The world-building was superb. What if dragon shifters existed in an alternate history? They would still have hoards, and they would inevitably have to have managers for these hoards. I felt like I was reading about old-money Yakuza families of dragon shifters who dominated the world with their longer lifespans and well, sheer girth. Although werewolves existed, the dragons considered them inferior beings best left alone.
Emerson grew up as an orphan knowing her heritage, but once she applied for financial aid and listed her shifter status, everything changed. Suddenly she was treated as royalty. But this Cinderella wanted to just do her job and get away from the dragon politics and arranged marriages (because property management overrides lust).
Too bad for her, her first assignment to mediate between families over unearthed remains became an unravelling knot of lies, and Emerson found herself more entangled. Meeting Thane, a shifter dragon who was fighting the dementia of old age, where the dragon side takes over and all humanity is lost, she discovered that she was possibly a gift for him. Hello, modern woman here. Naturally Emerson became a little disgruntled over arranged marriages.
So did Thane. Attracted as he was, Thane was fighting over the remains of his family and his dragon song. He decided to help her find her inner dragon, but his main concern was for his deceased family.
I loved the plot twists and betrayals. The side characters, Bryan and Matt, were so engaging I wanted to read more about them. There were no wallflowers when the action got bloody.
Need to Know:
* Dual point of view
* First person
* Rating: R for sex, violence (yum)
* HEA
* Completed story arc.
I think I want to keep reading the series, which is amazing. The end of the book has the teaser for the next book, with a new main character. I like that concept!
Ember has a rather rough intro to discovering she really is Bloodkin. With Thane by her side, she hopes it will all turn out ok. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
If you are interested in supernatural romance. You may like this story.
Being a Christian does not mean I can’t read and enjoy shifter books. I grew up on werewolves, vampires and other strange creatures, but most shifter books only make it through to chap 2. That is due to foul language, rampant and extraneous sexual episodes. So it is nice to be able to read a story that keeps all that to a minimum.
