A princess expected to uphold honor and tradition, a man dishonored and shunned by the very society she rules. Their passion may be hot, their will strong, but how can she fall for the man who might be trying to kill her? When her life is threatened by mysterious events only she can see, Princess Fen has more to worry about than finding a husband. Too bad her parents don’t feel the same way. … the same way. Desperate to keep her from leaving the planet like her sister, they decide to play matchmaker, inviting wealthy, noble suitors to the palace.
But it’s not a rich suitor who catches her eye, it’s the commoner, Aaron Piers—a man who’s past is clouded with dishonor, a man without family, a man she could never consider marrying. Though her desire for him burns hot, their relationship can never be. Besides, he might just be the one trying to kill her.
These books follow Princess Mei’s siblings. Mei is from Lords of the Var 5: The Pirate Prince. A continuation of the Dragon Lords and Lords of the Var Series.

Wonderfully written as usual by Michelle. We get an adventure on another planet, with an Asian feel to it. We really get to see the class differences between the affluent nobles and the lower class. This definitely a rags to riches story with a dash of feminine persuasion. I love how it all comes together in the end.
I received an ARC of this story and have voluntarily chosen to review it here
Princess Fen is being pressured by her ogre of a mother to get hitched! She quite likes freedom thank you very much and marriage is not on her radar. But every cloud has a silver lining and on this occasion that comes in the shape of Aaron!
Brought to the palace to make new gowns for Fen and others and also replace some wall hangings Aaron makes contact with Fen. He has seen her from a distance on numerous occasions and has a bit of a fixation but that no longer seems to be a one sided affair.
But their scorching hot attraction is being thwarted by the Empresses repeated attempts at putting suitable grooms under Fen’s nose at every opportunity. They may be eligible but not all of them are a catch! With a hidden threat who has way too much interest in Fen, earmarking her for himself and causing her strange visions and then taking the final step and actually striking out at her, the dangerous infatuation may be the death of Fen!
I didn’t love Fen the way I did Francesca. She comes across as too much of a pampered princess for me. Aaron is lovely but does tend to have inverted snobbery sometimes, seeing slights were none were intended. But his love for Fen can’t be denied and I loved the way Fen’s brothers banded around her to help. Spirits of the ancestors still steal the show in my opinion, this lot should get their own series, they are funny and so incredibly brash!
This is a fabulous look at the Lintians, the commoners and the royals of the Zhang Dynasty Fen the eldest daughter of the family and the silk designer Aaron Piers who was disinherited at a young age by his grandmother. Find that they cannot keep their hands off one another but she believes that she can actually turn off her emotions when it comes to marriage but it is not as easy as she thought it would be. The characters were very interesting as well as open about their feelings for those who have less than they do. i love the atmosphere in the story and the description of the palace as well as the gardens and the surrounding buildings, and the country side. There is romance and suspense from the beginning their is someone who feels that Fen should belong to him and him only when she doesn’t pick him as her husband then things begin to happen that could end in her death. I found it to be a page turner as well as keeping me on the edge until the end. Great job from the palace ancestors. Adult content. I was given a copy as a gift from the author. I am providing an honest review without obligation.
Another winner. Ms Pillow manages to shake up every world she creates. Strong men are great, but add sassy, defiant, equally strong women and the rulers do not know what has hit them.
It was bad enough that their son and prince married a commoner and warrior woman, now their daughter has fallen for a commoner, and not just a commoner–I’m going to let you find out more.
Emperor and Empress must be saying what happened to the time you told your kids it was time to marry, pick a noble and we’ll even bring in a bunch to choose from. The kids bowed said yes and the marriage was a forgone conclusion. So far, three marriages and none have gone that way.
The love story between Aaron and Fen is hot and sweet and filled with forbidden meetings and danger. The parents are autocratic, but there is love and heart inside for their children. I loved the story, the characters and the outcome.
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
