A biography of the woman who has become a worldwide phenomenon and a hero of the autistic community. In this fascinating biography, Annette Wood delves deep into Temple Grandin’s life from childhood to adulthood. Wood tells of the trials and tribulations of the icon: the difficulties Grandin struggled with, and how she’s become a hero for the autistic community. She reveals what Temple has … what Temple has done since the acclaimed movie based on her life came out, where she is today, and what kind of difference she’s made.
For the twenty-two million people worldwide afflicted by autism and the countless friends and family members who support them, this brilliant portrait presents an up-close look at the disorder and renewed hope for what the future could bring for those on all levels of the spectrum.

An “inside Voice” from a brilliant mind & Teacher sharing her experience of growing up on the spectrum of Autism, and becoming both a professional, & an advocate. Much can be learned from her journey & insights.
A true story about a remarkable autistic person who was unable to speak as a young child but goes on to become widely known nationwide for her achievements because of guidance from a mother and other people who would not give up on her.during her young life.
Really fasinating story everyone should read! This world needs more people like Temple Grandin in it!
Temple Grandin’s story is extraordinary. The amazing insight of her mother and those that worked with is a true testimony to encourage others with autistic children and those with varying degrees of it.
I honor Temple Grandin! She has probably done more than any other individual to illuminate the problems experienced by those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am her age and am on the high end of that spectrum myself, as are several of my children and grandchildren. Without her boldly bringing the world’s attention to the plight of such as I, the world would be an even harsher place than it is already.
Sadly, this book is a far less than perfect biography of Temple. It is also a very flawed discussion of autism in general. Temple made her Professional mark as an expert in large animal husbandry. The book imperfectly discusses her contributions in this field also.
Perhaps the work is just too disjointed. Each of the main topics: Temple Grandin, Autism, and Temple’s contributions in animal husbandry, deserve an entire book on their own.
A bit boring
Temple Grandin is an amazing lady and a gift to the Autistic world. When young we all assume everyone thinks as we do. She breaks that myth apart!! It was a fascinating and informative book about wonderful people who live in a world that is separate and so different from ours, which makes it hard to understand and accept. This opens up their world and makes it more comfortable for us who do not struggle with Autism to step into theirs. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Wonderfully written book. She was a remarkable women and accomplished much!
Well written. Enjoyed the book especially since our family was in the cattle business for many years.
Admirable subject. The book is written as if the author is in a hurry to get herinformation out there, but, to her credit, she succeeds.
I hope more Temple Grandins appears and are accepted in this society.
Despite the author’s digressions digging into peripheral information, the book gave a good picture of an interesting and inspirational individual. Readers will come away with a more positive, nuanced view of Asberger’s and the autism spectrum.
I enjoyed this book but I would have preferred a little more focus on Temple Grandin herself not so much about other people and their experiences with autism. She is an amazing woman. I was more interested in her life.
Amazing insights into autistic and gifted minds. For me, I feel inspired to make the analogy that Temple Grandin is the Helen Keller of autism. Great contributions!
What? You aren’t reading this yet? Why are you still reading this? now go read!
A book for anyone related or who knows someone on the Spectrum.
Helped me see different sides of autism
I was curious to learn more about Grandin after she spoke at my son’s college. The book was informative.
Temple Grandin always opens your eyes to her world.
Temple Grandin is an amazing woman, and this books helps show why. I’ve read a couple of Grandin’s own books (which are excellent), but this explains more about her life. Highly recommended!
I loved the content of this book and Temple Grandin is amazing, but the writing was lacking. I’d recommend it anyway, just don’t expect to be blown away by the writing.
