From USA Today Bestselling Author Beverly Jenkins comes a new novel in a mesmerizing series set in the Old West, where an arranged marriage becomes a grand passion . . .What kind of mail-order bride greets her intended with a bullet instead of a kiss? One like Regan Carmichael—an independent spirit equally at home in denims and dresses. Shooting Dr. Colton Lee in the shoulder is an honest error, … dresses. Shooting Dr. Colton Lee in the shoulder is an honest error, but soon Regan wonders if her entire plan to marry a man she’s never met is a mistake. Colton, who buried his heart along with his first wife, insists he only wants someone to care for his daughter. Yet Regan is drawn to the unmistakable desire in his gaze.
Regan’s far from the docile bride Colton was expecting. Still, few women would brave the wilds of Wyoming Territory for an uncertain future with a widower and his child. The thought of having a bold, forthright woman like Regan in his life—and in his arms—begins to inspire a new dream. And despite his family’s disapproval and an unseen enemy, he’ll risk all to make this match a real union of body and soul.

I LOVED Dr. Lee, so quiet and controlled, but also super-sexy. A great dad! A dedicated doctor during very difficult times. I also adored Reagan, one of the strongest women I’ve ever read. Very true to herself, a good person through and through, and ready to stand up for herself. An all-around feel good historical romance!
Tempest is the very satisfying and unforgettable final addition to Beverly Jenkins’ extraordinary Old West series! The opening scene reeled me in with a pulse pounding attempted stagecoach robbery that ends with the heroine, Regan, saving the day with her trusty Winchester rifle. Then I was completely hooked, when just a few pages later, she mistakenly shoots her husband-to-be, Dr. Colton Lee with the same rifle. Ms. Jenkins has delivered a stimulating page turner that I never wanted to see end. I whole heartedly recommend every book in this series and they all have permanent places on my favorites shelf.
Love the historical parts in her books, I always learn something.
If you love historical romance and you’ve never read Ms. Bev, you owe it to yourself to start. This one’s fabulous. Steam for days!
Wonderful reading
One of my favorites! The hilariously rocky start to a beautiful relationship and the sexual banter alone is worth its weight in gold! The flow of Tempest has everything I want in a great read and I devoured this story in no time.
When I saw this was a mail order bride historical with a widow father I instantly borrowed it from my library. I am a sucker for a mail order bride historical romances, especially when you add in that she shoots him at their first meeting.
“After all, how many men met their prospective brides via a bullet from her Winchester?”
Regan Carmichael is an independent, hard working woman who is just as comfortable in jeans as she is in a dress. She may be wealthy but she was also thought to be more than a pretty face. Dr. Colton Lee isn’t happy to find that his mail order bride isn’t what he was expecting. He expects a fine breed woman who follows society’s rules and only handles the household. Regan is more than he expected but everything he, and his daughter, needed. She is a true partner. I loved watching Regan show Colton what a real woman is. He may be a doctor but he really doesn’t know women, even if he was married.
“Beautiful women aren’t supposed to be as intelligent as you seem to be.” “And handsome doctors aren’t supposed to be as plumb dumb about women as you seem to be.”
Another thing I loved was that even though Regan was wealthy she still worked and kept busy. She just uses her money to make the house more comfortable for everyone and to spoil a child that has never been given nice things. She also used her money to help people in the town when necessary. She truly was a kind and giving person. I loved Regan and her spunky and independent nature.
I cannot seem to get enough of Jenkins books! I wish I had started reading them years ago. If you love a good historical romance with some spunky characters read her books! They are so good and I cannot recommend them enough.
By turns steamy, sweet, and heartwrenching, Tempest tells the story of a town doctor and his mail-order bride who get off on the wrong foot (she shoots him before they even meet!!) but end up falling madly in love. (Highly recommend the audiobook!)
Another Beverly Jenkins Historical novel that is hard to put down! I cannot recommend this author enough. I read all of her books and really cannot tell you which genre of hers I like the best; she is just that good!! After shooting him, the good doctor wasn’t too sure he wanted Reagan as his bride. You will have to read the book to find out if they work it out in the end. Suffice it to say, you won’t be disappointed! 🙂
It was a wonderful story with characters who were black as well as white and as a white person, I really enjoyed it. Would like more like this one.
Historical, with lots of romance, family love and danger
When you want the finest in Western historical romance, look no further than Beverly Jenkins. Ms. Bev has produced another winner with Tempest, the latest romance in her Old West series.
Regan Carmichael sets off for Wyoming Territory to be the bride of widower Dr. Colton Lee and care for his young daughter Anna. Unlike many other mail-order brides in historical romances, Regan’s not doing it out of desperation based on life’s circumstances. On the contrary, she’s college educated, wealthy, skilled at a variety of trades and doesn’t need a man, but Dr. Lee’s ad intrigued her.
For his part, Colton Lee’s never met anyone like Regan and she quickly upends his world, first by shooting him (in her defense, she thought he was robbing the stagecoach) and not being at all demure and biddable like his late wife.
Clearly, the stuffy doctor and the liberated lady are made for each other, and Jenkins brings their love and passion alive in a delightful story sure to keep readers turning pages late into the night. I especially enjoyed how the author wove details of the old west into the story and the secondary characters added to the total package. I look forward to reading Ms. Bev’s next book when it’s released.
Wonderful author enjoyed every book I have read this summer. She has made me rethink continuing to pay for the high cost of cable television.
I absolutely love Beverly Jenkins.
Couldn’t put it down
An amazing love story
I am a Beverly Jenkins fan to begin with. I have all her historical novel. this was a enjoyable read not a good or engaging as her previous works . but I would still recommend if you are a fan.
True to expectations, Beverly Jenkins, in Tempest, delivered another historical romance that was entertaining, educational, and thrilling from start to finish. Although it was billed as the last novel in her Wild West trilogy, Tempest left the door open for another saga in the guise of Regan’s sister-in-law Spring. Hopefully, that character will make her own “starring” debut in another exciting adventure from the Wild West. Thank you, Beverly Jenkins. You never disappoint! 🙂
