This is the story of how I fell in love with a broken man and his three little princesses. It is tragic, but it is true. And with truth, there is almost always tragedy.Tessa Lang has dreams of becoming the world’s next great author of horror novels. So, when she’s given the opportunity to write full-time, she sets out to do just that. There’s just one little problem. She’s not scary. At all.It … problem.
She’s not scary. At all.
It seems that her plans are ruined, until she meets heartbroken pianist, Jon O’Dell and his three little girls. Suddenly, she finds herself full of inspiration, and with the advice from her grandmother and best-selling novelist, M.L. Lang, Tessa decides to write what her heart wants – romance.
But as her novel moves steadily along, relationships start to develop, and Jon’s heart begins to mend, Tessa finds herself facing another unexpected dilemma.

Uncomplicated magic with words, something Kelsey hopes to achieve. Well let me shout this from the rooftops KELSEY YOU HAVE ACHIEVED THIS 100%
This book deals with the difficult steps through the quagmire of grief. It tells the story of how two broken adults react and process their individual situations, both alone and together. Simultaneously growing into the best versions of themselves. Through this wonderful story you’ll get to meet some wonderful characters who help to inspire the healing that Tess and Jon both need.
This book hits every emotion, spoiler alert: get some tissues.
Tell Me Goodnight is the kind of book you fall in love with gently, gradually, without realising. Its words and prose weave their way around your heart until, when the book is done, you feel bereft that it’s over, when there are no more words left to read.
This tale of a broken man and his three princesses takes a look at love and loss and ‘moving on without letting go’. Such a wonderful phrase that describes the aftermath of losing someone. It puts Jon and Tess together at a time when they were, perhaps unconsciously, looking for that other person to make their existence seem valid again.
The story is very real; there’s no billionaires and models and fantasy locations. It’s about two ordinary people, struggling not to give up on their hope of a dream career whilst trying to pay bills, care for family and make it to the end of the day. Above all, it’s a love story in the truest sense.
I cannot recommend this book enough. It is gentle, graceful and charming. It brought tears to my eyes and a smile to my face. It’s everything I’ve come to expect from Kelsey Kingsley and so much more; she gets better with each and every book. Outstanding.
Kelsey has knocked another great story out of the park.
Tess is a young writer who is trying to write her first book while living with and taking care of her aging grandmother. After 6 months of just her and grandma and Harriet the cat, Tess is going stir crazy and needs something to get her out of the h is a a few hours a week. Walked into a bar to apply for bartending job.
Jon fell in love and married his high school sweetheart Beth, they have 3 little girls. Jon is a talented piano player and singer, but has had no success in making it in the music business after over a decade of sending in music. He plays piano and sings in his brothers club. Beth passed away 6 months after they had their last daughter, leaving my Jon to be the sole caregiver and supported of his little girls.
Tess and Jon meet through his daughter calling Tess pretty when she see her in the bar filling out paperwork for a job as a bartender, that she is not qualified for. Jon brother suggests she should babysit the cute girls she meet. This is where the story begins. Tessa become the girls babysitter and then Jon’s friend and confidant.
This story covers first loves, grief and loss, second chances at love, and success in dreams if only you put your heart and soul into. You have to want it to make it happen and let your not and happiness show in your work. You never know when you will become someone’s muse for their stories, their music or their art.
Kelsey really knows how to break your heart with her words. Jon’s story is a tragic one, but it is also a story about healing and moving on. He’s stuck in the same routine day after day. He knows he has to take care of his three little girls and does so the only way he knows how. But then Tessa comes along and she changes everything. It’s not an instantaneous change, but one that felt very real. Jon is still grieving the life he thought he would have and then this complete stranger comes in and shakes everything up. It’s unsettling on many levels.
I loved everything about this book. It was both heartbreaking and uplifting. Tessa and Jon were perfect for each other. She was patient, understanding and more than willing to just to just be his friend, but she fell hard for his adorable children (who were just the cutest!) and found herself becoming a part of his family.
While this book is a bit heavy, there is plenty of light moments thanks to a couple familiar faces. (If you haven’t read Kelsey’s previous books Daisies & Devin and The Life We Wanted, I highly recommend them.) The humor was a welcome aspect and just added another layer to Kelsey’s already fantastic story telling.
Kelsey Kingsley is one of my favourite authors and she did not disappoint with her latest book. It has all the feels! My emotions were all over the place. I loved Jon! Argh if I keep writing I am going to give the story away and I hate reading reviews like that. So all I am going to say is that if you like contemporary romance, and a little sadness doesn’t put you off (because it does have a HEA) read this book. The characters grow and change right before your eyes. They could be your neighbours or friends they seem so real. Suffice it to say I LOVED this book!
Tell Me Goodnight
5 Stars

There’s not always a need to complicate things with big words…sometimes the most magic can be found in simplicity.”

Everytime I read a book from this author, I think it won’t get any better than this.
Then boom there she goes again. Writing from her heart and tearing me apart.
Jon, a broken, widower with three beautiful, daughters is lost in the guilt is losing his wife.
He gets up, puts one foot In front of the other and just exists. He aspires to be a piano player and works at his brother Jeff’s bar.
Tess, aspires to be an author, just like her grandma.
She has taken on the roll, as care giver for her. In exchange she gets to live with her rent free and write her first novel.
When Tess, finds she must have a little break from caregiving, she finds herself applying to be a bartender at the bar Jon, works at.
When his middle daughter starts a conversation with her, Jeff asks if she would be willing to babysit.
Jon, isn’t happy with this, but when Tess, comes back he decides to give her a chance.
This is a heartwarming story, that will tear at you’re heart .
Grab a cup of tea, a nice soft blanket and a box of Kleenex.
I’m so look forward to the, Chaddington bear’s story.
I have enjoyed each of the books about this band. I loved Devin and I loved Sebastian even more. But this book is by far the best of the bunch. Kelsey has written her best book so far. I really enjoyed the relationship between Tess and the girls and I emphasized with the way Tess struggled with her grandma’s decline. Jon’s struggle between living for his dream and giving it up was so real and heartfelt. I laughed at Tess’s love/hate relationship with her cat, and I think Tim’s character was the perfect addition to round out the story. Also, the music references were on point! Anyone who has lost someone they love can appreciate Jon’s challenges in loving his wife and needing to move on, and Kelsey handled it with such grace. The slow burn was a good one, the sex scenes never became the focal point of the book, and the characters led with their hearts. It is beautiful and I love it. If you haven’t read Devin or Sebastian, you should do so because you’ll appreciate their roles in this story even more, but I wholeheartedly appreciated the peek into their lives and Sebastian’s crazy self. He’s my favorite character, but this is my favorite book.
Outstanding, distinguished and noteworthy – emotional, heart-warming and soul-stirring!!!
This one goes to my ‘Best Read of 2019’ list. It is placed as number 1!
Can’t even give enough justice to the author with my words for how fantastic this book is. It is completely thought through from the title, through story-line, the characters to the cover. If you want to know what I mean just give it a try and read it! For sure you won’t be disappointed. Everything aligned perfectly.
I think this is the first book I read that I had a feeling nothing was off. There’s not even single thing to made me doubt my rating. If I could I would give it more stars and said that this story was simply remarkable.
Main characters so in sync with each other. The feelings that brew between them and those perfect three little girls added to the mix with the whole rock band… It couldn’t turn out anything less than perfect romantic read.
Kelsey Kingsley’s books are both heart breaking and uplifting. I always love her characters and Jon and Tessa are no different. They feel realistic and relatable, and you will feel everything they go through as the story progresses.
One of my favorite things Kelsey does is share her inspirations for her characters and story. She loves the music artist Jon McLaughlin and I do too, so it is fun to read a book that he and his music helped inspire!
This story can be read as a standalone, but does have appearances by characters from previous books. I recommend giving Kelsey’s other books Daisies and Devin and The Life We Wanted a look first.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
Wow, this story just gutted me….So good! It had a slow build/start, and then it hit me hard and my emotions welled. So well written with all the feels. The pain of dealing with the loss of a loved one. The guilt over building a life without them. The people who touch your heart and soul, and the incredible love. The little joys. The growth from life’s pain…. The characters touched me and were so real and heartwarming -“Tell me you love me, and tell me goodnight” – “Some times the most magic can be found in simplicity.” so memorable…. An incredible, well written story. A must read!
Could not get enough! Tessa, Jon and those precious three little girls had my heart tied up, and I had to keep turning the pages to see what was going to happen. Tell Me Goodnight ends with an absolutely fabulous ending, even though I never wanted it to end. Can’t wait to read the next book with more of these characters!
Beautiful Love story with a such an authentic feel. I think thats what I love about all of Kelsey’s book. She makes you part of the story, she makes you feel. Jon and Tess have a story that is beautiful and sad at the same time. Its was emotional in the greatest way. This book is truly a gift.
A great love and major loss. Finding the will to move on The chance to live again. Rugged at my heartstrings. Enjoyed the dual POV. I highly recommend this emotional read.
Firstly I have to say go and read this book.
I absolutely loved it. It pulled at my heart and had me smiling the whole way through. It’s such a sad but amazingly sweet story that pulls you in. Its brilliant. I can’t put into words how good it really is.
This had all the feels and all the words. I fell in love with Jon and his girls. A dad sacrificing to provide for his family. He and Tess help each other find the magic to create and move forward. There were sad tears and happy ones. There was loss but also hope. There was also so much love.
I have been a fan of Kingsley since her second release. I absolutely love her writing style. OH THE AMOUNT OF EMOTIONS SHE CAN PULL FROM HER READERS! I can honestly say that each book Kelsey writes is better than the last. Keep an eye on this author, she is headed for the bestsellers list!
My heart is all a flutter! Plain and simple, Kelsey’s words made me feel. It pulled at my heart strings, and tugged at my emotions. This story has a place in this book lovers heart.
Tessa and Jon inspire each other. They have a strong connection, and they both are trying to find their way. While they are each other’s muse, along the way their feelings grow into someone so beautiful. Jon and his girls are just adorable together, and when Tessa comes into their lives, she just fits.
This story has loss, family, and a 2nd chance at love! A 5 star romance that will melt your heart. A beautifully written story!
Oh my gosh! Love, love, love! Jon is broken after the death of his wife. He goes on because of his 3 little girls. Tess is an aspiring author, but she lacks inspiration. When these two meet, can they help each other? A wonderful heartbreaking story of Loss and learning how to move on. Kelsey Kingsley has a way of writing that pulls you into her stories. You feel the pain, loss and happiness of her characters. You will devour this book and find that you have to read all her books!
Eloquently written, mesmerizing storytelling and characters that have you by your emotions the entire time that is how I know I am reading a Kelsey Kingsley book and this book is no exception. Jon and Tessa’s story had me from page one and I felt my heart twist and turn for them. The love from a father to his two daughters and his deceased wife brought tears to my eyes and I just wanted him to find his HEA and he did with Tessa. I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars.
