In between full length books numbers 7 and 8 in the Dark Protectors series, the author released three novellas featuring the Reese brothers. These novellas are as follows:
1. Teased – book #7.5 – Chalton Reese’s book;
2. Tricked – book #7.75 – Jared Reese’s book; and
3. Tangled – book #7.8 – Theo Reese’s book.
Chalton was a deadly assassin who became one of the Realm’s best computer geniuses. He doesn’t usually go on missions anymore, but when asked by the King, he had no choice. Olivia is a journalist writing a story about a possible new species who might have a cure for her dying friend Ronni. Chalton’s job is to discover the identity of and locate her source in order to stop the story.
I liked Chalton and remembered him from earlier books. I liked Olivia okay, but I wasn’t a fan of her threatening to tell the world about the vampires and other immortals. I understood her wanting to save her friend, but it painted a picture of a typical journalist using blackmail and lacking a conscious.
Sometimes novellas are great, and a lot can be said in a short number of pages. Sadly, that wasn’t the case for me here. I didn’t feel a strong connection between Chalton and Olivia, and I believe that if the story had been a bit longer, maybe that would not have been the case.
3.5-3.75 Stars
Chalton Reese has been ordered by Dage to stop Olivia Roberts from publishing a story in a race with extra chromosomes. What he doesn’t expect is to run into his brothers Jared and Theo since they haven’t spoken in 100 years. While trying to keep an eye on Olivia, fight off bad guys, and rescue his mother, Chalton realizes he has fallen for Olivia.
Chalton has been a background character who I was always curious about. He is a tech geek and former assassin for the realm. Olivia is smart and determined to save her friend. She is perfect for Chalton. She isn’t afraid of him and stands up to him when she needs to.
I really can’t wait for Jared and Theo’s book. They really deserve to find their mates.
Since I’m reading this series a few years after publication on most of the books, I’m in the know of there being more stories after Marked. It still excites me that the author continued this series though. And I cannot imagine, had I been reading these books in real time, how ecstatic I would have been to find out there were more coming a year after the last book. This series never fails to make me laugh and swoon and sit on the edge of my seat.
This trio of brothers seem like the perfect subjects for a few novellas. As usual with these books, the characters fall fast and hard. In this story, Chalton actually acknowledges that love happens fast with his race (the Vampires). Even if he didn’t, the chemistry between him and Olivia is off the charts so I wouldn’t have minded the insta-love. I seriously couldn’t wait for them to give in to their desires, and they didn’t make me wait very long.
There is a lot of action (in and out of bed) in this story. Which is the norm for the Dark Protectors series. But since it’s such a short story it seems even more packed with danger and racing around. I found myself not wanting to put the book down.
I can’t wait to read about the other Reese brothers and their HEAs.

A family reunion….of sorts
Chalton works closely with the King, when he is sent on a mission….the first in a century. He prefers computers to what he used to do! His mission is to locate and get information about a source from a journalist who is writing an exposé, which could potentially reveal that humans are not alone on Earth! But from the moment Chalton sees Olivia and gets to know her, whilst keeping her safe, he comes to the realisation that she is his mate
However, there are outside influences which are coming to light and a family reunion about a century in the making
Can’t wait to read the other Reese brothers stories
I was curious about Chalton in his brief appearances in the Dark Protectors series so I’m happy he got his HEA. I loved him, and I think Olivia is my favorite heroine of the entire world so far. I loved her mouth, she reminds me, of me. A great story and I can’t wait to get to know Jared and Theo!
I’m so into this whole DP/RE world that it doesn’t matter who the author decides to write about, I’m going to probably enjoy it. I love how she”s inter connecting the two different series with each other. Can’t wait to read the next installment about Jared and Ronni.
This book was just okay for me. Chalton was okay for me. I really liked the little bits of him I got in all the other books but in this one he was a little flat. I liked Olivia but she didn’t really stand out to me. And Chalton and Olivia together was just blah. The whole I like you but I will mate for life your bf because she is dying but lets sleep together now thing just didn’t work for me. I also would have loved to got more of a peek at past couples.
