Team Player 2 has short stories from Ella Fox, Mandi Beck, Teagan Hunter, Ilsa Madden-Mills, Sara Ney, Rochelle Paige, Meghan Quinn, Charleigh Rose, Kennedy Ryan, Emma Scott, and Kate Stewart. If you like sport romances then this anthology is for you.
My plan is to read all of the stories included in this anthology but I’m going to jump around and read the author I have read before first.
The first one I read was The Guy in the Middle (Fair Catch) by Kate Stewart. If you read The Guy on the Right then you know Lance. If you haven’t read The Guy on the Right, no worries you don’t need to read it to love this one. I was totally engrossed in Lance and Harper’s story. Their story has funny parts but also has heart string pulling parts. Their story doesn’t end in the anthology. We are left hanging and have to wait for their full story to come out.
Arena Lights by Mandi Beck was my next read. Meave and Millie are twin college softball players. Their brother, Levi, is a hockey player who makes sure his teammates know his sisters are off limits. Meave and Millie are off for a two week softball clinic where Millie plans to have fun without her brother or his teammates watching out for them but Levi’s teammate Benny is going on the trip. Off the twins, Meave seems to be the focused mellow one. Millie is wild trouble maker. Benny isn’t looking to get into trouble by hooking up with either of the twins but he and Meave have a connection. I loved their interaction with each other. This one is a really cute read.
I have only read for story is this book but so far Body Heat by Rochelle Paige is my favorite. I loved everything about this story. Sera works at a private security company. She tough and strong but still has a sweet side. Before she meets her new client she’s not excited to be working with an athlete after the last one. When she meets Rowan, there is a connection there. I love how she try to keep their interaction all business but their connection to too strong. Rowan is a great character too. He’s strong and sweet all wrapped up in one.
The last one I read was The Strike Out by Meghan Quinn. If you read The Locker Room or The Dugout then you have met Holt. I was excited to see he was getting a story. I loved reading this one but warned that it’s not his whole story and we have to wait for more to see how it all turns out.
Dear Ava 4 stars
Ilsa Madden-Mills
Ava and Knox had such an intense dynamic. They both come from a place of heartbreak and the way they interact with each other shows that they have their defenses up at all times.
Ava has a lot on her plate, and after what happened to her in the past, she isn’t letting anything stand in the way of her dreams.
Knox has it all or so it seems. He keeps people at arms length and doesn’t share much with others. Ava is the only person he can’t get out of his head, and his actions towards her are swoon worthy.
I cannot wait to get the full length novel of this novella. There are still so many mysteries surrounding the past, and I need answers. I also want to see these two face the world together. They have what it takes, and I can’t wait to see how everyone reacts to their relationship. It’s going to be a wild, stressful ride, but it will be worth it!
The Teaching Hours 4 stars
Sara Net
Rex and Hannah have such a short, fun book that left me wanting so much more. I loved their banter and how Rex was very agreeable with her. This would always make Hannah so mad and seeing her riled up is some of my favorite scenes from past books.
This book spans a few days, so you are left wanting more of the story. What happens next, does it work out, has Rex really changed from his past douchebags ways??? Hopefully Sara will eventually write their full novel so we can get some answers.
After finally finishing the anthology, I have to say I was not disappointed. There was a lot of variety that is suitable for all tastes and introduces you to a lot of new authors that may have never crossed your path before and now have become a favourite. Each book was unique in its own way and each story was incredible. And here is my review.
THE GUY IN THE MIDDLE
The Guy in the Middle is a sexy, short read that has plenty of brooding sexiness and a feisty lady who knows what she wants in life and is determined to make it. Getting to see more of the vulnerabilities of Lance and why he vulnerabilities. Also, get to see Harper in a new light.
The chemistry between the two was palpable. Hot. I feel it sizzling through my phone, and it gets hotter throughout. The steam factor is high on this one. Lance certainly knows what he is doing *wink wink*. Lance was hot, brooding, more feeling than he seems to let on. Harper was sweet, Quiet, Determined and Feisty as hell!
This novella is angsty and funny at the same time. One minute you’re laughing, and then the next you’re on the edge waiting for what happens next. It is awesome! It gets pretty high on a dramatic scale, but it got me all riled up and ready for the story. It was brilliant.
And that ending… TEASE! I have withdrawals now. It ended on a cliffy, and I love it and hate it at the same time. Gahh, need more!
Overall, it was a brilliant, angsty, steamy, funny and emotional. So much packed in one small book, and I need more. Incredible!
ARENA LIGHTS
Arena Lights by Mandi Beck is steamy, angsty and playful. A fun short read between two characters with a forbidden twist. It was hot. The chemistry between the two was HAWT and I was set alight from the fire between the two With the forbidden twist between characters amped up the angst a little. Gave it flares.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and easy short read. It wasn’t too much or too little. It was just right. A steamy, fun read that was enjoyable and very easy on the eyes. The perfect read.
BODY HEAT
Body Heat by Rochelle Paige packed a punch. It was delicious, fast-paced with plenty of action and twists and turns. I absolutely adored the characters and I loved how strong Sera was. Rowan was just a dreamboat.
Overall, a steamy read that is full of action in and out of the bedroom.
GUYS LIKE YOU
I lived for Guys Like you by Charleigh Rose. I lived for Sully, because, damn! He is delicious and Halston was feisty, sassy and brilliant in general. It had plenty of steam, and I lived the vulnerabilities that shone through them.
Overall, a very enjoyable and sexy read.
FAST BREAK: A HOOPS NOVELLA
Fast Break was one of my favourites in the anthology, simply because it was different.
I loved the fact that the heroine was disabled, and I loved the positive spin in the story where the character wasn’t weak or in need in help, but that despite her disability, she was strong, she was living. It didn’t find her back, but just took her down a different path, and I loved that.
As for the steam factor, it was hot! Ian was super alpha and protective of Quinn and I loved that fiercely. I loved their chemistry so much, and their story was perfect.
Overall, my favourite. I adored the characters and the premise of the story. Brilliant.
END GOAL
This story by Ella Fox was emotional, sassy with a hint of spiciness. Law and Addison packed a lot of heat, and this story will definitely melt your heart.
Overall, this story definitely leaves you wanting more.
THE TEACHING HOURS
The Teaching Hours was incredible! I loved the dialogue between Rex and Hannah, and I loved how the story was set out. It was funny, hilarious even and very realistic. I felt I could relate to Hannah at least on the awkward scale. And the steam did do not disappoint either.
Fast-paced and steamy, this author has me wanting more of their story.
A SLICE OF LOVE
A second chance romance with plenty of angst to fill all of my living room. I loved Frankie and her sassy attitude, and I loved how pure and strong her heart was, especially for Jonas. I’m such a sucker for second chance romances and this was right up my street. A beautiful tale full of angst and love. Couldn’t ask for more.
LOVE GAME
This is my first by Emma Scott, and only with a small snippet into her writing, I am in love with it.
This book is emotional. It carries around a lot of intensity that makes your heart cry for the characters. Kai and Daisy made my heart feel so many emotions, but the love and caring for each other made me swoon.
This story is intense, but you see raw emotion wrapped in a love story that is not only beautiful but real. This was another favourite of mine, and once you read it, you’ll see why.
HOLT’S STORY
Holt’s Story was in true MQ fashion. It was funny with plenty of banter and a LOT of chemistry. I loved Holt’s character, he was funny, sexy and charming. And Harmony: she’s one spicy Brazilian that can definitely handle herself.
It was funny, charming and full of sexual tension. I hope to see more of them in the future.
DEAR AVA
Another new-to-me author, Ilsa Madden-Mills certainly does not hold back in any way. A sensitive story, Ava wants to find justice for what is what no person should ever go through, but what she didn’t expect was Knox. Their chemistry was palpable and I loved how Ava held her own and how Knox was determined to keep her safe and fight right beside her. There’s definitely a lot more going on that meets the eye, but it has me intrigued wanting to see Ava get justice.
Dear Ava was a sensitive read not suitable for everybody, but Ava’s fight was commendable and kept me reading. Such strong characters with an air of mystery.
You have me intrigued, Ms Madden-Mills. Intrigued indeed.
In conclusion, this anthology kicks butt. This story all serve their own purpose and there is a story that everybody will enjoy; funny, emotional and angsty. There’s a slice of pie for everybody. Although a few hit me more than others, it was an incredibly enjoyable read that has made me love the variety of anthologies. Highly recommended!
4.5/5
My review is for FAST BREAK by KENNEDY RYAN
This was a fast read for me, but it was packed with ALL THE FEELS!!! I was an emotional wreck reading this one. Quinn is a total BADASS who has overcome so much in her life to be the AMAZING woman she is now. And then Coach Ean comes along and shatters her walls that she has around her heart. These two are so perfect for each other, two halves of one soul. I highlighted so much in this book!!!
Some of my FAV lines are,
“They call me America’s titanium sweetheart and the Bionic Beauty. People assume what’s titanium, what’s bionic, is my leg. Wrong. My will is titanium. My spirit is bionic. I am made of steel, and hard times don’t break me.”
” I will never be that fresh-faced girl who believed life owed me something. Life doesn’t owe you shit. Good things, bad things, they happen to us all, and most of the time, we have no control over any of it. It’s not how life tries to break you that’s the story. Life tries to break everyone. The story isn’t that you fell. The story is that you got up again and again and again. I got up.”
This is a MUST READ!!! Author Kennedy Ryan slayed this!!!!
If you love Sports Romance or even New Adult Romance, you will enjoy this Anthology. Chocked full of some great reads from some fantastic writers, this book has a little something for everyone, all with a sports theme. I especially enjoyed the stories by Ilsa Madden-Mills and Kennedy Ryan, but you won’t find a bad one in the lot. I always love reading anthologies because you get to read something new by someone new to you. I have already added some fantastic titles to my TBR from the wonderful writers included here. 5 Fantastic Stars!
An anthology of sports romances by some of the top authors in the genre, Team Player Two really has a story for everyone. While I haven’t made my way through all of the novellas yet (and trust me, I plan to) it was easy to see not only the quality of this collection, but also the variety of sports represented, which really makes it appealing!
A Slice of Love by Teagan Hunter – 4.5 stars
A Slice of Love was a super sweet second chance romance, and, an opposites attract as well. Young lovers in highschool, football star Jonas first fell for the principal’s (and preacher’s) daughter with just one look. but things really didn’t progress with Frankie until their senior year, when they were paired in chemistry. They communicated through writing notes and drawing pictures in notebooks and had one perfect night together before fate interceded and ripped them apart. Four years later, Jonas is back in his home town recuperating from an injury when he runs into Frankie . . .and this time, he’s not going to let her go. And together, they have a better shot of winning the game than ever. And, the notebook /letter writing . . . swoonworthy!!!
Holt’s story by Megan Quinn – 5 stars
We’re back in Brentwood again, this time watching Holt fall for the girl of his dreams. I loved his character. He’s such a contradiction of rich and cocky athlete appearance wise, but hard working and genuine to those that really know him. Harmony is really a tough nut to crack and the verbal sparring between them is foreplay at its finest! I know Holt’s persistence will win out in the long run, but Meghan Quinn . . . why oh why did you leave us hanging?! You’re killing me! I need the rest of Holt’s story now!!!
Hoops by Kennedy Ryan – 5 stars
I honestly don’t know if a novella could be any more perfect than this one. How Kennedy Ryan packed this much emotion into the small amount of pages was incredible! Quinn is a true inspiration in so many ways. She’s created an amazing life for herself out of hardship and adversity. The only part of her life that is lacking is a relationship, but it’s hard to trust men to see beyond her wealth and her prosthetic leg. Ean Jagger changes all that with his own brand of admiration and persistence. Hoops was fabulous and emotional and really took my breath away!
Every single one of these stories are 4 and 5 star reads!!! And with the ones that have more to come I can’t wait for the rest of the book to come out. These stories were captivating and I didn’t want to stop reading any of them. If you love sports romance you will definitely love this book so get it while you can!!!!! I will round all the way to 5 stars because there were more 5 star stories than anything!! – By Tina
Alright, so I’ve only finished a couple of the stories so far, but I wanted to share! They are SOOOOO GOOD! This collection of authors was what drew me in. Each of them is a fantastic writer in their own right, so putting them together … wowza!
First, I read Fast Break: A Hoops Novella. I loved the Hoops world that K.R. created, so I was totally stoked to get back to it. This short story somehow packed all the feels into a few pages. I loved being back in this world and experiencing new perspectives.
Next up was Arena Lights from Mandi Beck. Maeve and Benny were sooooooo cute. I love loved them! I wasn’t expecting their story to be so darn adorable, but man it really hit my heart just right.
Now, I’m only through these two (tough week at school), but I’m hitting up Ilsa & Meghan next! I can’t wait to dive into all the amazing goodness I’ve been flipping through!
A perfect anthology for me, I love sport romance and these authors are in my top favorite to write them. They are all amazing.
I must say that I loved Kate Stewart Fair Catch, which is a novella for The Guy in the Middle, where Lance is an NFL player being drafted and that I read in The Guy in the Right book and wanted to know more about him.
Emma Scott Love Game surprised me, Daisy and Kai where the perfect couple I didn’t know I would love this much, a tennis sport romance which I love the refreshing sport from the usual hockey, basketball, soccer and football I usually read.
Arena Lights by Mandi Beck, is an author I have read just a couple of books yet I wish the story about Benny and Maeve was in a full length book already, I wanted more of this best friend romance story now, so will see later if it becomes a reality.
Meghan Quinn had me laughing so hard in Holt, Holt and Harmony are amazing together, their snarky and sass with all the inuendos had me rolling. I always love this about Meghan Quinn.
Dear Ava, I already knew Ilsa was going to to an amazing job as I love all of her books. Now I need to know more now, Ava and the secret admirer story was such a new and amazing surprise story I just need answers and a lot of them so 2020 can’t get here fast enough.
Charliegh Rose with Guys Like You was a great romance novella, I loved the angst I got in the few pages, Halston and Sully are great together, I loved them so much.
Teaching Hours by Sara Ney, well Rex certainly dragged me into his story, I always love Sara Ney’s characters all those douchbags and Rex is on the list. Poor Hannah but she definitely got a winner and found herself in the process.
Fast Break by Kennedy Ryan, she dragged me into this story blindfolded, Ean and Quinn took me in and didn’t let me go, this was the cherry on top for this fabulous anthology.
As with the first anthology, I wasn’t able to read every single story, so my review will be related just to the ones I was able to read. I did start out thinking I’d be able to read them all, but ran out of time, and so ended up just skipping a few to get to the authors I know and love.
First was The Guy in the Middle by Kate Stewart, and it started off really good, basically an enemies to more type of story, but then, a cliffhanger? And I need to know about Harper and Lance, that ending! Guess I’ll be waiting for her to put out the rest of the story at some point.
Next was Arena Lights by Mandi Beck, but I didn’t get to finish it before I jumped on to a different story. However, it was definitely good, and I’ll be going back to finish it when I get the chance!
I jumped ahead to The Teaching Hours by Sara Ney, because I love that series, and I have really wanted to see Rex Gunderson get his own story, and here it is. Well, I loved it. I know Rex was a PIA, but in the end, couldn’t help but want him to get his own chance. And love his term, “funcle”-fun uncle. How do I make a term like that for me being the fun auntie?
After that I read Holt’s Story by Meghan Quinn, which I was loving, until she ended with a cliffhanger as well! Fortunately compared to the first cliffhanger story, this one at least was a sorta happy for now ending, so I can be patient for the conclusion to Holt’s story at some point.
Finally I started the story by Ilsa Madden-Mills, Dear Ava, and if I hadn’t had to go to bed for work today, a day I have to work both jobs, I might have stayed up until I finished it. It was emotional and definitely a page-turner.
Definitely going to be highly recommending this one!
1) The Guy in The Middle – Kate Stewart
Harper Elliot is a dancer and goes to a gym to workout by herself in the evening. She loves the solitude but soon is upset to learn that she must share the space with Lance Prescott, the cornerback for the Texas Grand. Harper has goals of becoming a dancer but has agreed to finish college first.
Lance Prescott has so much on his mind and has no desire to share the gym with a dancer who has no idea about the pressures he’s under. He tries to do whatever he can to be the best one out on the football field hoping that he can earn a contract and help his family out.
As Harper and Lucas begin to spend more time together at the gym they begin to get closer but each of them have their own secrets and soon they discover it could be enough to destroy them.
This was a great book and I was super excited to see that there is going to be more!
I liked the building up of the relationship between Lance and Harper. It wasn’t instant although the two had so much attraction to one another. The two built up a level of trust and then went from there but we soon learned that certain things weren’t revealed when they possibly could have been.
The “snap” was hilarious and the effect it had on others was huge!!! That in itself created a huge issue for Lance and he was definitely afraid of his secret coming out and having to pay for it.
I definitely felt bad for what Harper discovered at the ranch but I was very happy with the birthday gift that she gave him and how it provided him with an outlet and the training he needed to possibly help his family out quicker.
The end was so sad with the fight between Harper and Lance and how it led them in different directions but I am really hoping Lance is able to go to New York and find what he’s looking for!
2) Dear Ava by Ilsa Madden-Mills
Ava Harris has been attending Camden Prep until she is raped one night and she believes it was by one of the football players. Now after 10 months away she is returning to school to find a letter in her locker from a “Shark” who claims he cares for her and would never hurt her.
Knox Grayson is the star quarterback at Camden Prep and appears as cold as they come. Yet when he sits down beside Ava in class and is partnered up with her, he slowly shows her a different side of him.
Ava must overcome her demons from that night and try and figure out who she can trust when many of the guys want to see her fall again after what “they” were put through after her allegations. Will Knox turn out to be foe or friend?
This book was so incredible and I can’t wait for the full version as there is so much more I need and want from this book!
Ava’s story completely broke my heart. From her upbringing and living condition to being raped she never had an easy go and I was so proud of her for returning to Camden Prep and trying as hard as she could to move on with her life. She still wanted to know who raped her but she was trying to continue on the best she could.
At first Knox appears to be such a jerk but we slowly get to see another side of him and I had some guesses on who he might be underneath it all. There was so much more to Knox than we possibly could have imagined and his story made me so sad and I knew how protective he was going to be over Ava.
I loved that Knox also trusted Wyatt to take care of her when he couldn’t and the friendship that developed between the three of them.
There were so many different facets of the book and how the rape affected different people and the extent that it changed some of them. I was shocked at what one character did in the aftermath of it and I really hope that is looked at more in the next book!
I’m still worried about one character not being able to remember anything and I am somewhat scared about what is to come but I am so happy with how things ended for now!!
I have a love/hate relationship with Anthologies. I can’t resist buying them.
I love that I get a little glimpse of a story to come or an update on a story already told.
I hate that it is usually a little a teaser for what is to come and I just want more than a teaser!
What’s great is that these stories did introduce me to several new to me authors that I will follow up with!
Now here are the titles to the stories in this anthology along with the author that wrote them.
The Guy in the Middle – Kate Stewart
Arena Lights – Mandi Beck
Body Heat – Rochelle Paige
Guys Like You – Charleigh Rose
Fast Break: A HOOPS Novella – Kennedy Ryan
End Goal – Ella Fox
The Teaching Hours – Sara Ney
A Slice of Love – Teagan Hunter
Love Game – Emma Scott
Holt’s Story – Meghan Quinn
Dear Ava – Ilsa Madden-Mills
Fast Break by Kennedy Ryan
Sport Romance is one of my favorite romance genre. Ean and Quinn were adorable together..I love the romance for being slow delicious.. slow doesnt mean boring.. Fast Break was the breakthrough for independent woman Quinn.. She was smart and spicy… perfect for Ean Jagger 😉 I cant get enough with the story..
I was eagerly awaiting the release of Team Player 2 anthology, it has stories from 8 contemporary authors, some of whom I absolutely adore and some who are new to me.
Fast Break by Kennedy Ryan
4+ stars
This is Quinn and Ean Jagger’s book. Quinn who we met in Block Shot (book #2) and Ean who is the coach of August’s team (from Book #1). I really enjoyed this one, its pretty short but as everything with Kennedy Ryan its well written and she made me teary at the epilogue. All in all a pretty great short wish I could have a bit more time with a couple but its done really well for a short novella. We also get to see/hear about the other characters/couples from the HOOPS series which was a plus, especially if your are a fan of Banner. It’s a great little addition to the series!!
The Teaching Hours by Sara Ney
3.5+ stars
This was fun, cute! I haven’t read the Jock series so I didn’t know the characters from beforehand (which I think would have made it a better read for me) but it was also fine as a standalone. Hannah and Rex were cute, again I wish we had a bit more time with the couple but its was pretty rounded off as we got to see them from strangers to getting to know each other and then starting dating. Also Rex and his niece were so cute together.
**I will update this as I read other novella’s in the anthology**
I’ve read Dear Ava by Ilsa Madden-Mills. I absolutely adored it! It’s a novella, but it is packed with emotions, love and a little mystery. Knox and Ava are awesome characters. Ava is a real fighter. She’s strong, feisty, smart and loving. Knox is sporty, talented, determined, caring and gentle. He’s the popular jock at high school, but he’s also so much more. I loved Ava and Knox together. It took a while before they were really together, but they are great together. Dear Ava ends with a HFN and I am so happy that there will be more! There is still more to discover about Ava and Knox.
This is a new anthology by some great authors. I can’t wait to read more of the novellas in this collection. I will continue to update this review, as I read more of them.
“Love Game” by Emma Scott
I absolutely loved her contribution. I’m a big tennis fan. Somehow, this is the first tennis sports romance that I’ve read. I loved learning about Daisy & Kai and their back stories, and the journey they took together to get to their much deserved HEA. They both carried demons that haunted them. Daisy was more open to help to get rid of/lessen their hold on her. She was also realistic that it would be a day by day journey. Whereas, Kai was skeptical & also scared to face his pain & ghosts. It was beautiful to see Daisy patiently try to help him & tred lightly when necessary. I also loved seeing Kai slowly acknowledge his pain (sometimes reluctantly) & see how much Daisy wanted to/was able to help him. I loved their willingness to be vulnerable with each other, as they became closer.
I also loved all the cameos of famous tennis players (past & present).
Emma gave us the perfect mix of tennis, a beautiful story about redemption, and finding love where/when you least expect it.
This is definitely A Must Read for any fans of her books. It would also be a great introduction to her amazing storytelling.
What a great story Ilsa Madden Molls has created. This novella was full of a range of emotions and desks with quite a few different topics which when combined give us the story of Knox and Ava.
Knox is so much more than he lets people see. His popularity at school makes it easy for him to hide his personal turmoil.
Ava is trying to find her footing and assert herself so that she can keep herself protected from the “sharks” and harsh words people throw her way. Determined to stay on track for success Ava tries to put her best foot forward.
Can she find a friend and something more in Knox? Dive into Dear Ava and see
Team Player 2 is a brand new sports anthology, that includes 11 brand new stories.
While I haven’t made my way through the entire book yet, I have read a few stories (4 -can’t wait to read the rest!) and loved them all. I loved that each novella is completely different, from rom-com to emotional to sexy times, this book has it all!
Dear Ava by Ilsa Madden-Mills was absolutely amazing, and I’m so excited she will be releasing it next year as a full-length book!
The Teaching Hours was a hilarious treat, Rex has definitely redeemed himself throughout the Douchebag series and it was such a fun read. I’m so happy Sara Ney decided to give us his story!
I also really enjoyed Guys Like You by Charleigh Rose & Arena Lights by Mandi Beck, two new to me authors that I will definitely be reading more of!
If you’re looking for a fun way to discover some new authors, read some exclusive novellas from your favorites & enjoy some incredible stories then I highly recommend this anthology!
I’m still making my way through the anthology and will be editing my review as I consume more of these amazing stories!
Dear Ava by Ilsa Madden-Mills:
Absolutely ADORED this novella and I honestly am now counting down the days until this is a full length standalone. 2020 CANNOT come soon enough!
Apart of the Team Player 2 Anthology, Dear Ava tells the introductory story of the budding romance between Ava and Knox, two seniors at Camden Prep. This novella had a little bit of everything I was craving–emotion, angst, and a spark of something fresh and new that only a romance can bring. I could not for the life of me set this one down and binged it in one sitting during my lunch break (and into my work hours shh) because of how captivating these characters are and the way Mills delivers the story.
Arena Lights by Mandi Beck. Benny and Maeve’s story was fun, light and sexy. When Benny chaperones his best friends’ little sisters, he finds himself in a predicament. Keep his distance, or act on his attraction to Maeve, and worry about the consequences later with his best friend.
Mandi Beck always brings wit and chemistry to her stories and this one is no exception. This was such a fun read and something anyone with an older brother can relate to.
