What will it cost this bodyguard to save the woman he loves?“He was sent here to kill you, wasn’t he?” Glo’s voice emerged in a whisper of horror.Tate drew in a breath, and even Knox looked away as Tate nodded.Oh, she knew it. Apparently, she had a type. The kind of men who didn’t care what trouble—or death—might be waiting for them. Who turned their face to it and charged ahead. The kind of men … face to it and charged ahead.
The kind of men who died for what they believed in.
The kind of men who would break her heart.

Susan May Warren is the USA Today best-selling, Christy and RITA award-winning novelist of over 65 novels, including the best-selling Montana Rescue and Montana Fire series.
Bodyguard Tate Marshall, has always been the family troublemaker…
Maybe it’s his propensity to get entangled in other people’s problems. Now, he’s in over his head because he’s desperately in love with the woman he’s tasked to protect, the beautiful Gloria, “Glo” Jackson, daughter of US Senator and presidential hopeful Reba Jackson. A member of the country band, the Yankee Belles, Glo was targeted in a recent terrorist attack designed to deter her mother from running, and Tate will do anything to keep her safe. Even if it means letting her go.
Country music artist Glo Jackson isn’t afraid of trouble…
Stubborn and brave, Glo isn’t about to hide from threats, at least the kind that won’t cost her heart. She’s already paid a terrible price for the war on terror, and she refuses to fall for a man who might die, especially because of her. Better to keep him away, even if it means sacrificing her heart.
But when danger threatens them both, what will they sacrifice to keep each other safe?
As the presidential campaign heats up and the threats deepen, so does the attraction between Tate and Glo. But what will it cost Tate to keep her alive? And what will Glo do to keep from losing another man she loves?
The gripping second installment of the Montana Marshalls series.

This is book 2 in Susan May Warren’s The Montana Marshalls series. Susan is a masterful storyteller. Her characters are real people, many larger than life, but with broken places that need healing along with their strengths. This particular series has kept me turning pages and carrying the book with me wherever I go in case I have a few minutes to read again. There’s lots of suspense. And she has special way of weaving the strong spiritual thread through all that happens just when it is needed. A wonderful, wonderful read. Don’t miss it.
“When you show up with nothing and discover that you’re loved because of who you are – that’s when you realize what it means to be a son of God.”
Tate Marshall has been running from his self-made ghosts for years, living with regrets that he can’t erase, refusing to consider that his incredible courage in the face of danger counts for anything at all. Then along came Glo; Gloria Jackson, full of life and quite possibly love; running away from the life she was meant to live . . .according to her powerfully persuasive U. S. Senator mother. It’s a recipe for disaster, and Tate has been charged with keeping her safe . . . . from an obnoxiously hands-off position.
“Surrender is not a Ranger word.”
Hang on to your book cover, this book is a deliciously wild ride to the finish line!
“Surrender is not a Ranger word. Fine. Let the battle begin.”
Oh, my goodness. Susan May Warren ramps up the action and romance with each new book and series. After reading Knox, the first book in the series, I didn’t think I could love any other Marshall sibling more than Knox. Then comes Tate with his broken, regretful past clamoring to shut down his bone-deep bravery, loyalty, devotion and desire to protect. He’s impulsive, yes, but knows how to love deeply and to love the person for simply who she is without inflated expectations. As a former Army Ranger and now a bodyguard, he’s got a lot of baggage… but so does Glo, who uses her feistiness to build a thick wall around her heart. Despite the privilege, wealth, and fame as an up-and-coming country singer and the daughter of a senator on her way to the presidential race, Glo gets lost in other people’s lives and almost doesn’t realize who she is until Tate. If you are a fan of Susan May Warren’s books, you will absolutely love this book. If you’ve been waiting anxiously for this second installment of the series, you will be totally satisfied…. except now you’ll be anxiously waiting for Ford’s story. If you’ve never read Susan May Warren’s books before, The Montana Marshalls series is the one to pick up; she will dazzle you with fun and sassy dialogue, raw emotions, intense action, fast-moving plot, and real and touchable characters who will take residence in your heart.
AND this book introduces Ford and RJ, the youngest twins in the Marshall family. Ford, a Navy SEAL, and RJ, the CIA agent, promise great action-packed stories of their own to be released soon! This story also ties in Reuben and Gilly’s story from the Montana Fire series, Reuben being the oldest Marshall sibling. Though I haven’t read the Montana Fire series, it was good to get acquainted with him and his fiancee.
A top pick for your summer read!
I received a copy of the book via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Book Two a Success!
Tate: The Montana Marshalls by Susan May Warren was just as exciting as book one in the series. The family drama and romance continue as Tate Marshall tries to keep Glo Jackson alive while trying to win her love.
Plenty of action in a variety of settings keep the plot flowing. I enjoyed the tender moments between family members, especially on their heart-capturing ranch in Montana.
Great setting, people, interest. Fans will be delighted with book two in the series.
Excellent! I love this series and devoured it so quickly. Great characters, passionate romance, and clean with plenty of action and suspense!
BRAVO! Tate Marshall’s journey from feeling less than to becoming a son of God is one we all must take. I so appreciate the spiritual truths woven throughout this story. I’m captivated by the larger than life Marshall family. Their commitment to love one another is life is truly amazing!
Recommend to those who enjoy contemporary inspirational romance.
I borrowed a copy from my local library. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
Tate is the second book in the Montana Marshalls series by Susan May Warren. What a fun story. Susan has a way of creating characters that are so believable that you see parts of yourself inside them. You can’t help but cringe when they do a bone-headed thing you recognize from your own life. You jump up cheering when finally something falls into place. It’s an awesome talent.
Tate and Gloria are two very independent, very hard-headed individuals who self sacrifice for each other while frustrating both themselves and the other simultaneously. Trust me when I tell you this book is worth reading. It follows along right where the first book, Knox, lets off. The continuity is great. The Marshall family is a fun, loyal and courageous family to get to know.
Susan weaves suspense, romance, humor and mystery into every chapter. You don’t want to put these books down until you’ve finished them. Then you want to hurry and get the next one to see what happens next. I am definitely filing these books on my keeper shelf and will be re-reading them again and again.
The action not only never stops, it leads directly into the next book. I’ve never wanted to read so many books in the same series at the same time before! Susan May Warren is telling the story of all the siblings at once, focusing on the sibling the book is named after, of course, but not ignoring the others. I can’t wait to dig into Ford’s story, but I’m also anxious for Ruby Jane’s.
The second Montana Marshalls book picks up right where Knox left off. While Tate takes center stage in his struggle to protect Glo, the woman he’s fallen for, the rest of the siblings also have big parts to play. Some questions are answered but new challenges rise to face the family.

I can always count on a well-written, enjoyable read when I pick up one of Susan May Warren’s books. This book is no exception. The Marshall family is dynamic, interesting, and full of courageous, protective characters. While this story is primarily about Tate and Glo, Ford and his friend Scarlett also have a large part in it, and the other family members jump in occasionally. If you’re interested in reading this series, start from the first and work your way through. You’ll enjoy it much more.
Susan May Warren has done it once again!!! In this book she takes characters who are flawed and broken and shows how they can begin to heal.
Tate is a former Army Ranger until his team was all killed in the Middle East and he felt responsible since he was their leader. Now he works as a bodyguard for the Yankee Belles or he had until he was fired. The problem is Glo, one of the Yankee Belles. Tate is a protector and he is determined to protect Glo.
Glo’s mother is a senator who is running for President of the United States. She is a master manipulator and getting Glo to do what she wants her to do instead of letting Glo determine what is best for her. Glo feels guilt for being the twin who lived and feels a sense of responsibility to her mother so she gets drawn in every time. Glo had experienced more loss when she angrily sent her boyfriend off to a war zone and he didn’t return. She felt responsible and she couldn’t let anything more happen with Tate because he was all about danger. He was a danger to himself and to her heart. She couldn’t risk it again and lose.
I loved that Tate just couldn’t give up on Glo and he kept coming back to make sure she was safe. He also felt he had a lot to prove and make up for, too. Was a possible forever love worth the risk for both of them to let their guards down and let love happen?
Mrs. Warren’s characters seem to get under your skin and become part of your family and friends. It is sad when a book closes. That is why I loved that she usually writes in series so you can look forward to the next one to come until the series is over and then you mourn their loss and look forward to more by this very talented author. I’ve already started reading Ford now because I just can’t stop.
The Montana Marshalls series, and Tate specifically, has an “action and attraction” packed unputdownable plot which takes place in a number of interesting locations amid various sub-cultures. Glo has a spine of steel and a compassionate songwriter’s heart. At first glance, Tate seems like a classic tough guy bad boy but in truth, he’s a modern-day warrior.
This book is everything readers have come to expect from master storyteller Susan May Warren! Rather than say more, I’ll just wrap it up with my hearty recommendation and start reading Ford, the next installment of the series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own. I also purchased a print copy for myself.
I stayed up way past my bedtime reading this one! This is the story of Tate Marshall and Glo Jackson, and the road to love is definitely not smooth! Neither one is sure of themselves, and I could definitely relate to their insecurities.
The Belles are taking a break, and Glo Jackson is called home to help out in her mother’s campaign. Tate, who was working security for the Belles, finds himself injured, fired, and dumped–all at once. So he does what any man in love will do: follow his girl. Except she doesn’t want him, and her mother only wants him to protect her daughter, not romance her. Tate does his best while his heart breaks as he watches another man get close to Glo.
I really love how Susan May Warren pulls in the other characters from previous (and upcoming) books. The glimpses that we get of Ford and Scarlett serve to whet our appetites for the next installment. I won’t give any spoilers to ruin anyone’s enjoyment of this series, but I have loved them so far and can’t wait for the next one. I believe that they are better read in order, because this story does refer to events in the first book of the Marshalls series, Knox.
What have I gotten myself into? I started this series, The Montana Marshalls, on a Friday night. I had books one, two and three to read. And yes, of course, I read straight through until book 3 was done on Sunday night! This is book #2 in the series. The author does a great job in allowing the books to be stand alone novels. But oh how much better she does when you read how she weaves the story through several! I love that!
Oh Tate! You’ve always been the troublemaker in the family, but is it that you’re the trouble maker or that trouble just seems to follow you? You’ve made me wonder in this book! And you seem to hold your cards close to your chest—not easily read.
Until a county music artist Glo comes along and seems to find out how to push your buttons, on several levels. Will you both survive? If not, will you be able to go on without the other? And which one of you is the most stubborn?
Ah! This book was too hard to put down, so I didn’t! I read straight through it.
Loved it!
In book two of Susan May Warren’s Montana Marshall’s series we get to know more of the Marshall clan and we get an up close and personal look at Tate Marshall. He’s the troublemaker of the family, but is he really? Ms. Warren crafts Tate as a family member who feels like he’s not good enough and he has to prove himself to everyone, even himself. The heroine Glo feels the same way which allows for sparks between Tate and Glo as well as the supporting characters.
Susan May Warren is known for the action, danger, mystery and romance she packs within her stories, and Tate is no exception.
I found myself having to stop and catch my breath several times between the action and the kisses. I particularly like the thread of how we’ve had God’s attention before we were even born we don’t have to do anything to gain it.
“Heaven sees you, Glo. You don’t need to do anything to get God’s attention. You had it before you were born.” – Gerri Marshall
I didn’t get Knox read prior to reading Tate and I wasn’t lost. Ms. Warren gives us enough backstory to not make you feel lost. However, with the glimpse she gives within the pages of Tate it’s clear that you will want to read this series in order.
I really enjoyed this book. The political parallel was the only thing within the story I could’ve done without.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book via the publisher in association with Just Reads Publicity. I was not required to write a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“We love, simply because we’re loved. God’s love comes first and ours is just a response. We didn’t trigger it – He did.”
I have always loved Susan May Warren’s writing. Her contemporary, her historical, her suspense…it’s all fabulous! She crafts characters that you connect with from the moment you meet them…and from then on you consider them friends. She draws you into each story and you are not only entertained, but ministered to.
As soon as I heard about the Montana Marshalls series, I knew I wanted to read them. I purchased the first book, KNOX, and it was sitting on my to-be-read pile when I heard that TATE was soon to hit shelves. These books were coming out fast! I devoured them both and oh my goodness!!! Ah-maz-ing!!! So, so good. I couldn’t put them down…KNOX or TATE and I really, really can’t wait for FORD to become available!
Until I started reading KNOX, I thought that the Montana Marshalls were marshals…as in law enforcement marshals. Haha – nope! This series is a family with the last name of Marshall. This is my favorite kind of series because the siblings all play a part in each book. We know them all, on some level, from the beginning of the series which makes the rest of the series that much better. I am a stickler for reading my books in order. With this series, I would recommend that even readers who aren’t sticklers read them in order, as the author has set this series up to overlap one another.
We have a good feeling for who the main characters, Tate and Glo, are when we start TATE because they were such an integral part of KNOX. We are already invested in their relationship even though there are some huge obstacles to conquer to make it work. I loved seeing them grow and learn to overcome these obstacles. I also loved seeing them learn to truly rely on God and His leading. I can’t say enough good about this book – or this series. If you don’t already have them in your to-be-read pile…order them now!!
Awesome suspense!
Tate is the second book in the Montana Marshalls series and continues to follow Tate and Glo’s story. Tate continues working as the bodyguard for Glo’s band until Glo decides to take a break from the music scene to work for her mother’s political campaign. Glo decides to fire Tate in order to protect herself from the possibility of facing the heartache of losing someone she loves again. Tate knows that someone has been targeting Glo ever since her mother announced her presidential run, and he is determined to protect Glo no matter the cost to his own heart.
While this book is primarily Tate and Glo’s story, it also gives a great introduction to Ford. I love the idea of book series that focus on siblings, and the way they show up to help each other in time of need. I also appreciate the deep spiritual views of God’s love that Warren threads throughout these stories. I have very much enjoyed the first two books in this series, and can’t wait to read Ford’s story in book three! I highly recommend this series!
*I received an advanced copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.
Tate is book two of the Susan May Warren, Montana Marshall’s Series. In this book, you will meet Tate and Glo(ria) and their feelings will finally come to the surface and what God has in store for each of them. Tate is a man who will not let anyone get hurt, especially the woman he loves. As a former Ranger there is a phrase they use “Surrender is not a Ranger word. Fine. Let the battle begin.” So no matter what comes his way, Tate never gives up on himself or Glo. Glo is scared, scared of being herself and loving again. The past is always haunting her and she has a hard time letting the past go but with Tate’s help can she do it or can loving Tate can get her killed? The Story of Tate will leave you breathless! It is a high energy, action packed read with romance in the air. I highly, highly recommend this book! You will not be able to put it down.
I had not read any Susan May Warren books in awhile. This series grabbed my attention and I am glad I read others in the series too!
I’d love to be in Susan May Warren’s mind when she is creating her stories. The way she writes them just sucks you right in and doesn’t let go. How she creates these hunky heroes – Tate is up there on my list of favorites – is just amazing to me. She gets every single detail right, to build the perfect character (and I don’t mean the character is not flawed, I just mean they are perfect to me lol). Somehow her amazing cover team gets just the right guy on the front cover too – pretty well matches what I think Tate looks like. Yeah…I’ll just stop right there for a second while you refer back to the cover and drool a little bit.
This book is packed with action, right from the get go. You learn so much more about Tate, things I didn’t even expect. But dare I say that Glo’s mom stole the scene a couple of times! I know some of you who have read this are probably cringing right now, but I really think she did. She’s so determined to have things her way, and she’s cunning like a fox. You always have to be careful around her. She didn’t surprise me in the least when she was visitng Glo in the hospital, until she asked Tate a very important question (sorry you’ll have to read to know what I’m talking about!). It was then I could see her wheels turning. Yes…she was up to something. But then throughout the story you do see little glimmers of an actual human being in her. There was almost a teeny bit of vulnerability a time or two as well. Was she my favorite character? Um, no way. BUT, she was the character that surprised me the most. She was the character I found myself talking about the most (I know – strange considering this is a Susan May Warren book and there is a cute hero invovled). But this is how Warren cotinues to be above the rest. She really thinks about each and every character in her stories, and leave nothing unturned. She certainly had my attention here.
I will say this – I really enjoyed getting snippets of Ford before his release. Set the stage quite beautifully if I do say so myself. Don’t be scared – this does not at all take away from Tate’s story. In fact, I think it enhances it. I certainly makes this reader sitting on the edge of her seat waiting for the next release!
Overall, Tate is every I wanted and more. I have never been disappointed in a Susan May Warren story before, and this is no exception. And after only being two books in, this is hands down my favorite series from her. Get your fans ready girls, you’re going to need them!! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
