Avery Aarons believes it’s fate that she will die by the hand of a criminal. As a child, she hid in a cupboard while men ransacked their home. In college, she met with an attacker walking home on campus. After that, going into law enforcement is her only path to protect herself and others who can’t. She’s never felt so empowered, until she ends up in the wrong place without backup. When Jess Monet … Jess Monet attends a CPR refresher course and runs into the sexy brown-eyed officer his special ops team helped out, he’s just as impressed this time around. He must admit, Avery’s got some pretty damn good moves on the CPR dummy too, though Jess has had his fill of rejection lately and is reluctant to pursue more than a friendship with the tough, beautiful woman. He also knows she’s completely right for him.
While on a short hiatus from her job due to an investigation, Avery has no idea what to do with her time. Spending it with the hunky special ops man is driving her to distraction, though, and she wishes he’d just make a move. Preferably one that lands them both naked in bed. Too soon fate comes after her again, and this time she’s sure it’s the end for her. But Jess isn’t about to let anything happen to the woman he’s growing too fond of to deny… the only woman who can rescue him right back.

A moving story of very different type of law enforcement officer fighting their demons together.
Avery Aarons is a good cop who thought she made a good call but it landed her on suspension and at loose ends. Jess Monet is an elite Ranger and has always been unlucky in relationships so he throws himself in his work.
When they meet at a CPR class the friend zone is the safest place for them both to be.
This book will keep you turning pages all the way through, there is everything one could ask for in a really good book.
I love this series. I love this group.of guys. Jess is so lovable. I love revisiting the team. I love the background stories, the introduction of Jess’ family, his self confidence issues and his protectiveness. Avery just blows into his life and lights him on fire. Their story is deep and intense. The chemistry is off the charts. I can not get enough.

A match made in law enforcement heaven.
Jess is special ops. He’s a bit weary in love and work.
Avery is pretty awesome. She’s strong and takes steps to protect herself after a childhood scare.
They are a good match for each other and I liked how their lives quickly meshed.

I absolutely love this series and can’t recommend it highly enough in fact do yourself a favour read them all and while you are it read the Knight Ops series as well You won’t be disappointed
This is the fifth book in this series and this is Jess Monet story He is the analyst for the op team so not only is he fighting the battles with his team but he is spending his evenings listening in on terrorists trying to decide what their next target will be. He is a man who has loved often and hard but every time he has declared that love the woman has walked away making him extremely gun shy about revealing his feelings Then he meets Avery Aarons she is police officer currently suspended after shooting a unarmed wife abuser even though she was sure he reached for a gun and witnesses have backed her up. They are both at a CPR refresher course and the attraction is immediate Avery believes she will die at the hands of a criminal after all she has escaped that fate twice in her life already was this why she shot the man in the car park As they grow closer together will she get her police badge back will he finally break the terrorist case and will they both let their walls down enough to admit how much they care for one another
This action packed Ranger Ops romance has suspense, drama, romance and so much more. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. The storyline was well written, this has wonderful characters that you will fall in love with. Jess is the special forces intelligence analyst for an elite division of Homeland Security. Avery is a police officer who survived a home invasion as a child when her parents were out one night. Jess and Avery have sizzling chemistry and they understand each others jobs can be dangerous/stressful. They meeting at the CPR class was wonderful to read and the perfect timing for both of them.

His love life may need CPR…
Jess is definitely unlucky in love. To say that his love life may need CPR is an understatement. Meeting Avery in a CPR training class may be the stroke of luck he needs. Will he be able to finally get the girl? Not telling…but I will say that this is one of my most favorite stories in the series.

This was a steamy highly suspenseful action packed romance between Ranger Ops Jess Moreno and police officer Avery Aarons. During a time when so many cops are being investigated over wrongful shootings, this brought home that like Avery they are trying to figure out their best option in a difficult situation and in her case with an abusive hostile suspect. Jess was arrogant and overstepped trying to “fix” it for her. But his heart was in the right place. His daughter Madison was sweet and I loved that he wanted to connect with her through her ancestry project.
Take your foot off the gas you are in for an interesting ride.
Avery and Jess both have dangerous jobs so they understood each other. Avery had one truly bad night so now she has a real problem. When at a CPR refresher course Avery and Jess meet. A friendship and perhaps more develop between them but there are some challenges that have to be faced. There is danger and messy relationship issues it was a really good book. Complex and intense at times with just a hint of humor this excellent written piece is one you should look into. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This was a wonderful read and another terrific addition to this entertaining series. I loved Avery and Jess. I felt so much for each of these characters. It is not easy being the odd man out when eveyone seems to be paired up and that is exactly the uncomfortable situation Jess finds himself in. As for Avery, my heart truly ached for her. I honestly can’t imagine having to deal with the history and luck she seems to have. I thought that this was just a all-around excellent read filled with deep emotions and strong characters.
I received a copy of this book through BookSprout and I voluntarily chose to review it. I loved this book. For me it was a quick easy read. This is a well written story and it has some awesome characters. I am a big fan of Em Petrova, I know I will get a great story when I see her name on a book. I encourage you to get this book. It is the 5th book in this series and I can say I have read them all and Loved each one. The secondary characters help make the story and it is great to keep up with the characters who have already had their stories told.
I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It was great having characters that are well developed and engaging and have plenty of chemistry. The flow of the storyline was steady and smooth.

Em Petrova has written a number of strong women characters who are capable in most things, yet stumble with love and relationships.
Jess and Avery are no exception. A special ops man finds more of interest than renewing his cpr certification. A law woman herself, someone else seeking revenge just might succeed in ending her this time.
Saving each other sounds lethally dangerous, but potentially a lot of fun and steamy.
Intense steamy KU read!

Poor Jess he’s never had a relationship go the ay he wanted and has his heart on lock down…until he meets Avery. She’s everything he needs and more. Avery has a tough life and has been through so much, but her job being at stake has her losing her mind. These two start off trying the friend thing, but it’s obvious that won’t last long at all. The chemistry is too hot to stand. I love these guys and cannot wait for more!!!

wow these 2 were not going to have anything in common and the fight was on – but boy what a ride they took – EM never disappoints and this series has been so much fun to read about each team members fall into their forever loves – to get to revisit them is a bonus!!

A wonderful addition to the series, with Jess and Avery as the two main characters.
Jess is a typical special ops soldier, but he is also vulnerable when it comes to women, and love.
Avery is suspended following an off duty incident, and slowly climbing the walls with no real outlet for her pent up energy.
What follows is not your typical love story, all is not plain sailing. There is action, humour, steam, and danger.
Will Jess and Avery achieve their happy ending, or does fate have other ideas?
An interesting addition to the series. Lots of drama and enough action to make this a real page turner. Two people working to individually prove they deserve their jobs work together to solve the problem.
This is one series that I can’t get enough of. You don’t have to read them in order but it makes more sense if you do. This is Jess’s story and I felt for him so bad. You normally get the women that want commitment and the men don’t. In this case it’s Jess that’s afraid of getting rejected because the women don’t want commitment. In comes in Avery and it’s sparks from the beginning but with Jess being more careful. I am so glad it didn’t take them that long to explode and that Jess couldn’t hold back anymore. There’s the suspense and the mystery and the sexy times.
