Avery Aarons believes it’s fate that she will die by the hand of a criminal. As a child, she hid in a cupboard while men ransacked their home. In college, she met with an attacker walking home on campus. After that, going into law enforcement is her only path to protect herself and others who can’t. She’s never felt so empowered, until she ends up in the wrong place without backup. When Jess Monet … Jess Monet attends a CPR refresher course and runs into the sexy brown-eyed officer his special ops team helped out, he’s just as impressed this time around. He must admit, Avery’s got some pretty damn good moves on the CPR dummy too, though Jess has had his fill of rejection lately and is reluctant to pursue more than a friendship with the tough, beautiful woman. He also knows she’s completely right for him.
While on a short hiatus from her job due to an investigation, Avery has no idea what to do with her time. Spending it with the hunky special ops man is driving her to distraction, though, and she wishes he’d just make a move. Preferably one that lands them both naked in bed. Too soon fate comes after her again, and this time she’s sure it’s the end for her. But Jess isn’t about to let anything happen to the woman he’s growing too fond of to deny… the only woman who can rescue him right back.

The book has two people who are trying to prove to others that they are capable and able to do their job and frankly are the best at it.
Avery is a police officer. While responding to an incident it shakes her whole world. She if forced to take a break from work while it is reviewed and it is slowly driving her insane. Luckily for her, she meets Jess at a CPR refresher coarse.
Jess is a man who is burning the candle at both ends. He is a perfectionist on the job and has to be but doesn’t realize the toll its taking on him. When his supervisor points it out, he gets upset.
The part I liked the most about this book was that each other “got it”. They understood that the other works in a highly stressful, might miss holidays and celebrations type of job. Neither one of them would ever make them choose them or the job. They knew just to be there for the other and be their back up and support.
Avery and Jess meet at a CPR class. They both have a lot going on in their lives. She is on leave and waiting for the review to go through. Jess is working on breaking the code their target is using.
Jess has terrible luck with women and tries to put her in the friend zone. Avery isn’t letting that happen.
Will he be able to break down the message and stop the target before it is too late? Will Avery be reinstated? Can they work in a relationship with everything going on?
Another great story. This one contains 2 law officers in a relationship.
Avery a cop meets and is drawn to Jess one of the Ranger Ops agents. They each have life issues to deal with but find that their friendship helps. As it develops into more they move on supporting each other. Relizing that together they make a great couple.
Read in one sitting could not put it down.
