The sublime Alex Cross and co is back!
I love this series so much. There is no dumbing down of plot to play to the masses. It’s buckle up and prepare to be bamboozled at every turn. Just when you think you have the plot sussed…blammo you get hit in the grey matter by another twist!
Alex and his family attend the funeral of the late present who had died from a brain tumour. But as the Big Wigs and political piranha settle in with the new President, Alex has some new patients to deal with. But Alex is still on retainer to the FBI and they need Alex to profile the assassin of a senator. But in a slight conflict of interest, Bree is the Chief of Detectives who are also investigating the death.
But as one assassin is uncovered, two more pop up. Then there are assassins taking out assassins, closing dead ends in an effort to head off the investigations into more high profile assassinations.
Add in cryptocurrency plots, political backstabbing and the Cross family are once again front and centre in the action. There was a nice sub plot involving the budding romance of Alex’s son. The other subplot involving Alex new patient is a doozy and again you’re left reeling and trying to grasp the “WTF” moments!
Its fast paced, tumultuous, terrifically twisty and just all around brilliant writing!
A very innovative purely Patterson story line, I really enjoy the books that he only writes.
This is the twenty-fourth in the Alex Cross series. Couldn’t put it down … but … there’s kinda of an ambiguous ending. Maybe to lead into the next book. I don’t like those, hence, four stars instead of five.
good books all of them love reading them more than once
I have not read this book.I don’t have it.
James Patterson delivers another great Alex Cross book!
I’ve always been a fan of the Alex Cross series written by James Patterson, which, btw seems to be the only books he writes alone these days. Patterson has so many series and other authors that write ‘with him’ that it’s hard to keep them straight at times.
This story is all about assassins who assassinate their target, then assassins who kill those assassins, and assassins who are still trying to assassinate others…well you get the idea. The plot lines were so spread out and characters more difficult to keep separated I almost gave up in the middle of the book. Had it not been that the storyline about president assassination involved, I might have stopped reading. Some of the cyber aspects and political inferences of the book were so close to REAL life that it kept me reading to the end.
And I do enjoy where Patterson peeks into the home life of Alex Cross, Nana Mama and crew. It gives the idea that these people have lives outside of their Law Enforcement duties and keeps them believable. Also, with Cross still handling patients on his ‘off time’ from contract with Metro PD & FBI, gives other story lines for readers to follow.
All in all, a good book, but a little hard to get into at first. And of course, there’s another Cross book after this. Fortunately for me, I waited so long to pick up this one, that I have the next one “Criss Cross’ up to read. Keep this series alive, Mr. Patterson. Thanks.
James Patterson is one of my favorite authors. This book is great it continues the story of Alex Cross and is never boring. The story keeps your interest till the end and makes you read any of the stories with Alex Cross.
Assassins, assassins, assassins… The story is full of assassins that have been hired to kill politicians. There is an assassin assassinating an assassin… There are so many characters (government officials) that at times I got lost, but it definitely made me wonder about the line of succession. As all Alex Cross books are, you want to keep reading and see what is going to happen. Thankfully, I waited almost a year to read this book, but it ends on a cliffhanger and I only have to wait about a month now. I would definitely recommend this book. Alex Cross is one of my favorite series.
Love all of Alex books
Love the Cross Books!
After watching the news this morning, couldn’t help but relate to the storyline in Target. Really enjoyed this thriller.
I love Alex cross books
Love & read all Alex Cross (James Paterson) books . Highly recommend it .
James Patterson delivers once again, proving his Alex Crosse books are true winners. Hard to put it down – action comes from all corners – starts out with his typical “throwing all the cards in” and then the reader sits on the edge of his chair while it all unravels. I’m waiting for the next book.
Have read all the Alex Cross books. Never disappointed.
I have been reading his books for years i like them all. Sawyer
Alex Cross and Bree are amazing people. You will be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.
Alex Cross is one of my favorite characters!
