Head-Hopping… Oh, My!
This book intrigued me when I saw it at a book review state, as it takes place in the mid-1850s but not in the typical historical romance locations like the western United States or Victorian England. Instead, it takes place in Italy and Russia. How unusual for a historical romance! Unfortunately, as soon as I started reading the book, I became so disappointed. I read a fair amount of fiction, and head-hopping—where the author shifts the viewpoint character often, typically without a section or a chapter break—is thankfully rare but problematic when it occurs. This book has some of the worst head-hopping I’ve seen in a book, literally jumping between characters every couple of paragraphs. It is unsettling and made this book harder to read than it should have been. I also thought the author used too many modern phrases and concepts, making it at times seem not historical at all. I think the story had potential, but it just could not be realized by this author.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
All books in this series are stand-alone but have several similarities. Set in Russia or Vienna, they follow the couple’s children from the first book.
This book talks about Lucie (the couple’s daughter in part 3) and Theo von Berg who we also encountered in part 2.
His story contains just as much tension and love as the previous parts.
Theo is left seriously injured and has to watch his lover be kidnapped by a Russian general. He vows revenge and that he will save Maryka.
In the hospital of his brother Max, he is cared for by Lucie who can take his pains with a hand laying on. She decides to go with him when he goes to Russia for Maryka. On the way she finds out that her feelings for him go deeper but also knows that his heart lies with Maryka.
Theo has been looking for her for 4 years and now that his back is less painful, it is time to take her away from the general. Along the way, he learns that his feelings for Lucie run deeper than Maryka but his pride and honor keep him from admitting it.
Once in Russia, a different truth emerges. The general is the uncle who betrayed her father.
How can Lucie still have faith in Theo?
Beautifully written book where love can be felt between the lines

This is book 4 of the Fearless Women Historical Romance series. Set in Russia, this story takes you on a thrilling journey of vengeance. Theo is filled with revenge and has set out to free his lover, Maryka, who has been abducted. Julie is a healer and she is desperate to get away and agrees to go with Theo. Theo has set out to save Maryka, but is she the one he truly wants? Filled with suspense, intrigue, danger, and adventure, this story had me captivated from the very beginning and held my interest till the end. The storyline was interesting with plenty of plot twists to keep me turning the pages and the characters were well-developed. Another great addition to the series!

Even better than Tapestry of Fate.
This book is also set in Russia and is also is full of drama, danger, and suspense, and again I was glued to its pages. I also found this story captivating and very descriptive. Is the man Julie loves really the man for? Theo is on a mission to rescue Maryka but is that what the universe wants for him? In the last chapter, my heart went out to the characters I am sure you will understand when you read the book. This book is one I highly recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book and I voluntarily chose to review it.
