The book touched my heart and soul while telling a story about love and forgiveness. I enjoyed reading about Logan McKinnon and how he faces the challenge of caring for his mother who has Alzheimer’s disease. The pain, anger, and conflicting emotions that are his made him someone that you couldn’t help but care about. Tangles was a great 5 star read. Once I started I didn’t want to put it down.
We meet Logan and his family in the beginning, he is a great father that loves his children. He is also someone that when he sets his mind to it he is determined to accomplish his goals.
Logan started to wonder what was going on with his mom when he was on the phone with his dad, she was asking strange questions but his dad assured him she was fine. During a visit he knew his mom behavior was odd and she injured his son. Logan finally gets his father to share what is wrong with his mother, Alzheimers.
When Logan’s father passes he ends up caring for his mother. This is definitely not an easy task and he ends up hiring a nursing service to help him. When he discovers some journals that his mother wrote he ends up with lots of questions and discovers secrets that his mother had, secrets that make him angry and confused.
Will he be able to find someone that can help put the pieces together and give him the answers he’s looking for?
Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster. My heart went out to Logan, having a friend who’s family went through Alzeimers with her mother this felt like it hit home. Sharleen Scott has done a great job with her writing and you feel like your right there with Logan. If you’re looking for a great read, I highly suggest this one. I look forward to reading more from this author.
TANGLES was a blind read for me. The cover intrigued me and I have enjoyed this author’s stories in the past so never questioned what the book would be about.
Told in third person with multiple POVs and set in present and past time, It is real and raw and emotional. It is about discovery and reality and self identification.
A side note: No matter how old or young you are. No matter if you are a parent or not and no matter if you have assets or not, please make sure your wishes are known and someone is able to act on your behalf if you become incapacitated.
I absolutely recommend this book!
Tangles by Sharleen Scott is a very emotional read and one that will break your heart and make it ache. It is a story about Alzheimer’s and the affect that it has not only on the person who is suffering from this disease but to everyone around them and particular the family they have basically left behind and who have to struggle with a person they no longer know. I watched my grandfather go through it and this story brought back so many memories both good and bad. Sharleen has done a great job of sharing a story of the real life struggles.
Logan is now caring for his mother after his father suddenly passed away. It deals with the many things he is now facing day after day, grief and loss, hate and love, frustration and hope. Whilst in the throes of his caring he comes across journal his mother had written and what he finds is a shock to his system and causes him to question his whole life.
I look forward to reading what Sharleen gives us next.
While this story is a work of fiction, it is a truly moving tale of a family’s struggles dealing with Alzheimer’s disease. Tangles follows Lois’s life from childhood to the very end of her life. We get an honest look at her thoughts and feelings as she grows up, through her adulthood, through marriage and childbirth and everything in between. We see how this horrible disease affects her relationships with others and how difficult it is for them to deal with it all. Through it all, we find a love story. More than one if I’m being honest. This story is heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time.
Lois’s son Logan is tasked with caring for his ailing mother, and during his time with her discovers some family secrets that are extremely hard to accept. Throughout the story we follow his journey of devastation, anger, love, and ultimately forgiveness. Tangles is beautifully written and definitely grabs you by the heartstrings. I highly recommend you pick this one up and start reading now!
Tangles By Sharleen Scott. I knew going into this story that it’d be a bit different from previous ones I’ve read by this author. And I honestly liked it just as much if not a bit more because parts hit closer to my heart. This story was definitely an emotional story and left me feeling a bit raw. The author does a wonderful job of writing a story that had a difficult subject line but it’s so well written. I truly appreciate the words this author writes and the care taken to get even the smallest details correct. The emotions written into the pages of this story leave you feeling each and every one. I’m giving this story a five star review and highly recommend it. Be prepared for an emotional journey with wonderful characters.
This novel really, truly moved me to tears several times while I was reading, I knew when I picked up the book that it would be somewhat of an emotional read for me regardless of how sappy the story would get. I don’t think I fully prepared myself for the roller coaster of emotions I would be embarking upon. I am so glad that I scooped up this book, even without knowing the author’s previous works. I am excited to see what else may be available by Sharleen Scott now.
Logan takes us on the journey of taking care of his mother that suffers from Alzheimers. Caring for your parent without any ailments is a difficult phase in life that comes with joys and challenges alike. It is something we all hopefully get the chance to do and can at some point relate with. Logan doesn’t hold punches with how he is feeling and handling things and I loved it. His mother really reminded me of my own at times and I instantly felt connected to her all the way till that last word. I can’t say enough good things about this novel so go grab it and devour it for yourself!
Tangles is a heart breaking story by Sharleen Scott. I had read her Caught series before picking up Tangles and even though the subject matter is so different, still you could feel the deep love for human relationships that the writer has and that I fell in love with when reading the Caught series.
The writer has tackled a sensitive subject matter with Tangles and what makes it even more remarkable and person is the fact that she wrote it while her own family was trying to come to terms and find their way with the diagnoses of Alzheimer themselves.
Tangles gives us the story of Logan McKinnon and his mother Louis who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when she was in her late sixties… The journey that Logan gets on, the loss of his father who took care of his mother for years before he passes, the way how “the plaques and tangles win …”
Logan finds his mother’s secret journals and that takes him on another journey that shakes him to his core and he needs to find his way to how to reconcile what he discovers and what he has known all his life AND he has no one to ask his questions as his dad is gone and his mother is also … gone … as she used to be …
I know that you will not regret picking up Tangles, simply be prepared to having your heart strings pulled so hard that you need a box of tissues at hand!
This story was so touching, movinig, and very emotional. It sucked you in at the very start and it didn’t once let me up! There is no doubt in my mind that this book wouldn’t have this effect on everyone. It’s a story that many people live through but many deal with it differently. Its a story of love and forgiveness.
Logan is caring for him mother who has Alzheimers. The emotions he goes through from sad to frustration to utter exhaustion pulls at your heartstrings. Logan soon discovers journals that he knew nothing about their existence and everything he thought or knew is up in question.
This was one beautiful and heartfelt book that everyone needs to read!

Tangles by Sharleen Scott is a little bit different to the other books of hers that I’ve read. I really loved ‘The Caught” series, so when I saw she had released this book, I was intrigued to see what it was all about. The blurb gives a tiny taste of what you can expect from this story. But it doesn’t convey how much heartbreak and emotion this story contains.
Alzheimer’s is a tough subject to write about, as there are so many people who are living it, and have felt the impact of this horrible disease- whether it’s being diagnosed personally or seeing a loved one succumb to it, Alzheimer’s leaves a huge impact.
This story is more than an Alzheimer’s story- it’s about family, secrets, discoveries, questions, truth, forgiveness, and understanding. Tangles follows Logan, who takes on the responsibility of caring for his mother after his father suddenly passes away- as she has Alzheimer’s. He faces many challenges and experiences many conflicting emotions as he grapples with their situation. But things are compounded when he discovers her old journals which cause him to question everything he thought he knew. What do the journals reveal? How does that affect Logan? What will he discover?
I loved Logan and his mother Lois- they are wonderful characters. I really felt for them both, but especially Logan. The story was really well written and felt very realistic, believable, and relatable. My emotions definitely got a workout with this story.
Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Scott does next.
Thank you, Ms. Scott!
Sharleen Scott took the subject of Alzheimer’s and makes a beautiful story out of it. Tangles is just that a story about an Alzheimer’s patient and a family’s relationships. Her characters are complex and I found it easy to fall in love with them as they became part of my family. Logan starts to go nosy around and finds journals. He read the journal, which made him stop and think about his family. This led him on a hunt to find out about who he has read in the journal. What will Logan find out? Will Logan be able to handle what lies ahead? Alzheimer’s diagnosis is a scary and it takes away from the people who are affected by it.

5-Stars
Tangles by Sharleen Scott was easily a 5-star read. I felt inspired and moved by the amount of emotion and love in this story. The story’s main focus was on Logan and Lois, his mother. He begins to care for her after his father suddenly passes. It is difficult for him because she has Alzheimers and has a very difficult time with her memory. I loved how much Logan’s character seemed to soften and mellow out after discovering her old diaries. It was amazing how it seemed to turn things. Despite her issues with her Alzheimers, Lois was a magnificent lady.
This novel really pulled me in and O found it easy to relate to having worked with an Alzheimers population myself. I felt that the author did well with the detail and information given in this story. This was definitely a delightful read and I highly recommend it. It may bring a few tears to your eyes, but it truly is wonderful.
Tangles by Sharleen Scott was such a deep read. I would give this book a four out of five stars. I felt the pull of the story right at the beginning. The way that the story is written just grabs you and takes you on a wild ride. I felt my heart ache for Logan as he goes on this mission of understanding his history. There was a book I recently read that made me want to spend more time with my family and ask more questions and this book just solidified that feeling for me all over again.

I knew as soon as I read the blurb for this book that it was going to be an interesting and I imagined emotional read at times and I was right. Tangles was a wonderfully written story about something that affects so many of us and in so many different ways. Not one person with this awful condition behaves in the same way and I thought that the author really did write about it well, with empathy and truth. Logan’s story was such a journey and I truly felt like I was on that with him. I don’t think Alzheimer’s is an easy condition to write about – for me I always worry that the author might take a more stereotypical stance but Ms Scott definitely didn’t with Tangles – she really delved into the depth of how this condition can affect families and I was completely captivated by what I was reading from beginning to end.
I 100% recommend Tangles; it is a raw and emotional read that is exceptionally well written.
I was unprepared to experience the depth and raw emotion that settled on me as I read these pages. Scott fluidly describes this reality faced by so many families and breathes life and perspective through every poignant word. I’m really at a loss in such a beautiful way. I look forward to reading more by this author.
Tangles by Sharleen Scott is a highly emotional book about one persons fight with Alzheimer’s and another’s fight to discover more about the past.
This is one of those books that I found really resonated with me. I think because it involves an issue that is so prevalent nowadays and really does effect a lot of people. The way the author weaves this story is brilliant. She really makes you feel you are on the journey with them. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Logan and what he was having to go through.
The story was such an easy one to fall into as well. I was drawn into the book and couldn’t put it down. This really is well written and a book I would definitely recommend.
I loved this story. This story is about a subject that is near to my heart and has affected my life. This is an emotional story about Alzheimers and the love and forgiveness that follows. It pulled at my heart strings along with making me smile. This author took a difficult subject and wrote a story that is engaging and hard to put down. Logan discovers journals that lead him in search of truth and discovering his family. Will he find the man mentioned in the journals? This is a must read story!
