This was an intriguing story that drew me in from almost the first page and kept me engaged throughout. There is plenty of suspense and drama and a very liberal dose of romance to keep you guessing until the very end
Maura Antrim and Brock McGovern are both working for the summer vacation at a local resort and are enjoying a summer romance together when everything comes to a screaming halt when a woman’s body is found hanging from the history tree Brock was arrested as a person of interest and though he was released almost immediately by then Maura’s parents had taken her away. Now twelve years later they have both returned Brock is now an FBI agent sent to investigate more murders in the area and Maure is a videographer . With Brock hot on the case Maura decides to help him and in the process all of the old emotions surface are these latest murders linked to the one in their past and will the danger draw them closer or split them a part.
This was an interesting story. I liked the idea of a Resort/Ranch in Florida steeped in all this history. It takes place in and around the surrounding area of St. Augustine. The characters are well developed and the story flows. Maura and Brock met at the ranch while they were working there for the summer when they were approx. 18-19. They left after a horrific incident took place; that changed the course of their lives. They return 12 years later; amidst stories of young women going missing. Can they perhaps solve the recent missing persons/remains and solve the 12 year-old mystery?
This was a fast-paced book that kept my interest right up to the end. I feel that this story could have been expanded into a much longer novel with more information and details that would have made it an even better intrigue novel. Not that I didn’t like it as is; just that personally I would have appreciated some additional, more in-depth character development of some of the minor characters; as well as the main ones.
Terrific book that sucked me in right from the start. It began with a prologue when Maura and Brock were eighteen-year-olds working at a local resort. They were in love and had plans for the future. But the horrific sight of a body hanging from the notorious History Tree, and Brock’s subsequent arrest as a person of interest, derailed their plans. Even though he was released almost immediately, Maura’s parents had taken her away. Now Maura is back at the resort filming videos and fighting the memories. Brock, who followed through with his plans and became an FBI agent, is sent to the resort to investigate the disappearance of several women and the remains of another.
I enjoyed the rekindling of the romance between Maura and Brock. They were stunned to see each other again after so many years. Their initial interactions were awkward. Brock remembered his heartbreak as Maura disappeared from his life, and she spent years hurt and angry that he never contacted her. But underneath the awkwardness and anger burned the feelings that never went away. I liked seeing them reconnect and get to know the people they have become since the events twelve years earlier. As they spent time together working on the disappearances, the chemistry and feelings between them continued to grow. Brock was protective of Maura and worried about her as the investigation heated up. Meanwhile, Maura worried just as much about him. I felt Brock’s fear over Maura’s safety at the end, and Maura’s confidence that he would find her. I liked how they came together at the end, with their young love maturing to match who they are today.
The suspense of the story was very good. I was drawn in immediately by Maura’s recounting of the story of the history tree and the ghost Gyselle. The descriptions were vivid, and I felt as though I was there. The terror at the sight of the hanging body leapt off the page. Twelve years later, FBI agent Brock was specifically requested to come to Florida to help with the investigations. That the person doing the requesting was the same detective who had arrested Brock was a nice touch, and gave an extra layer of déjà vu to the story. Maura arrived at the same time to do a video about the History Tree with her client. The presence of so many of the people from that previous summer gave Brock a wide variety of possible suspects for his investigation as it began to look like the resort was at the center of the disappearances. Every time I thought I had the villain figured out, someone else would make me question my decision. The tension increased as Brock moved closer to solving the crime, and he became especially concerned for Maura’s safety. I was on the edge of my seat as his fears came to pass. I loved Maura’s presence of mind and determination as she refused to become a victim. The final confrontation had an unexpected twist to it, as my suspicions about one character proved true, but I was blindsided by the involvement of another.
I liked catching up with the characters from that first summer. Besides the changes that Brock and Maura went through, it was interesting to see what transpired for the others. Some truly surprised me while others hadn’t changed at all. I also liked the bit at the end about Brock’s life in New York and his connection with Finnegan’s.
This was a good whodunit story. Both Maura and Brock are brought back to the where they last saw each other 12 years ago. Circumstances around a murder separated them then. New murders helped bring them back to the Frampton Ranch. Though they haven’t spoken in the passing years, they still have an undeniable connection. They aren’t the only ones back at the ranch that were there 12 years ago. There are plenty of suspects and enough twists to keep you guessing until the end. I enjoyed the suspense and the romance. I received an advance copy of the book from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Maura Antrim and Brock McGovern fell in love while they were summer employees at Frampton Ranch and Resort twelve years ago but when one of the regular resort employees was discovered hanging from the History Tree during the resort’s storytelling campfire and walk to the History Tree that relationship fell apart. Brock is arrested for the murder and Maura’s parents sweep in and take her right home and intercept Brock’s attempted communications. Brock, of course, was innocent and only spent one night in jail before being released. Fast forward twelve years and Brock and Maura meet again at Frampton Ranch and Resort. Brock is now a FBI agent investigating the disappearance of three young women and the discovery of the bones of a murdered woman. Maura is now CEO of her own film production company and is at the resort with her client Angie Parsons who is there to film a segment about the History Tree. Interaction between Maura and Brock reignites their attraction to each other. Brock is determined to keep Maura safe and Maura is determined to help Brock with his investigation. There is definitely danger there.
Tangled Threads by Heather Graham is a mystery/romance story. I enjoy Heather Graham’s books but this one wasn’t my favorite. Sometimes I found it a little slow. Usually there is more action and suspense in this author’s books. I liked the main characters, Maura and Brock and enjoyed reading about their second chance at love.
This author is one of my go too which I try to fit in between the ones I need to read for review. This one gripped me right away after the opening that gives you a bit of the foundation. Maura and Brock have a second chance also that you keep close eye on. The suspense in this keeps you guessing with each event bringing you closer to the truth. High caliber of writing from beginning to end giving us mystery readers a full palate when finished.
this is a good story, when they where younger and worked at the ranch someone died. now they are back and someone else dies. but who . I did not know who one of the people was till the end. if you like mystery and romance , open door romance you will like the book I was given a copy by netgalley. but this is an honest review
An interesting and ready to read romantic suspense from one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed both the mystery (which had me guessing to the end) and the second-chance romance. And the other characters were perfect as red herrings.
Thank you to Harlequin and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.
I received the book from NetGalley in exchange for my fair and honest review.
I have read several Heather Graham books in the past, so I kind of knew what to expect. I found the book to be well written, with a interesting plot. I loved that she brought back alot of people that had been together in the past when a incident occurred so it made you wonder of the outcome of this book. I really enjoyed Maura and Brock and the chemistry between them. I did find Angie to be sort of ditzy and not to my liking but other than that i enjoyed the book.
One Amazing Suspense .
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy thru Netgallery of Tangled Threat .
I’ll start by saying I truely believe this is one of the best stories I have read .
It’s fantastic !
I was intrigued from the beginning the suspense and mystery keeps you on the edge of your seat . The story is interesting and Intense . Brock McGovern and girlfriend Maura Antrim as teenagers worked at Frampton Ranch And Resort together and discovered a coworkers body hanging from a tree . The murder and Brock was wrongfully accused pulled them apart . Years later they find themselves back at the resort her as a video producer and Special FBI agent there to find missing women and solve the crimes both cold and new . Along the way Brock and Maura may find a second chance . This story is well written, the characters are interesting and unique . This story will keep you guessing till the very end .
So full of twists and turns . All out a fabulous story .
I highly recommend taking the time to read . This is definitely Outstanding .
I haven’t read a Heather Graham book since I got my Kindle, so when the opportunity to snag an ARC came along, you betcha I jumped right on it. I’ve missed her books, time to get caught up again. Tangled Threat is a well-written romantic suspense with Ms. Graham’s own brand of creepy spookiness. Maura is a video producer that worked at Frampton Ranch as a teen, until her parents whisked her away after a woman was found hanging from the History Tree. Brock is an FBI agent that was also a teen working at Frampton Ranch and was accused of being the murderer. Maura and Brock’s story is loaded with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense along with a stellar cast of characters. I enjoyed every page of Tangled Threat and look forward to catching up on the Heather Graham books I’ve missed the past few years. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Maura is a video producer but twelve years ago she worked at a resort ranch in Florida. Brock worked summers there too and they were a couple. A tree called the History Tree had lots of stories and believed to be haunted. A woman is found hanging and Brock is arrested. Now Brock is in the FBI and is asked to investigate bones and missing women who have a connection to the ranch. Maura is there videoing a writer who likes spooky and creepy sites. Can Brock find the missing women before another disappears?
Great story with suspense and mystery. Read this book in one setting. Could not put it down. Second chance at love.
