Some things you can’t forget. A body hanging from the infamous History Tree unraveled their teenage love. Now Maura Antrim is again tangled up with Brock McGovern. Twelve years later, they’re back where that murder occurred–where Brock had been arrested and then released, where Maura had run, too scared to stand by his side. But with two women missing, and Brock now an FBI agent, Maura is … Maura is determined to help. Together, they’ll have to confront a threat that never died and see if their passion has withstood the test of time.

Great stoty, setting and live the characters.
Tangled Threat is a pretty quick read, which is about as good as it got for me. Had it not been, I’m not sure I would’ve persevered. There is suspense, but there is way too much repetition with things being gone over and over again as information is passed from one person to the next. Then we have what was supposed to be a second chance romance. I say supposed to be because I didn’t see any chemistry between this couple. We’re told that they’re still crazy about each other, that their teenage love has never died, but I didn’t see that between them. It felt like the romance was just thrown in there – Here’s this mystery with some danger, and oh yeah, these two are in love – and we’re just supposed to take that at face value. Don’t tell me, show me, convince me that I should be rooting for this couple’s happy ever after. I’ve read several of Heather Graham’s books, and I don’t know if I’ve changed or she has, but I just felt like something was missing here.
Emotionally thrilling, witty, sexy and engaging adventure filled with intriguing danger, interesting charters, exciting passion and heart pounding twists….. was an entertaining read from beginning to end. A Great Read!
Tangled Threat is a Harlequin Intrigue title written by one of my must read authors Heather Graham. At a little over 250 pages, the author manages to squeeze in a good dose of romantic suspense. Maura Antrim returns to the History Tree, the site of a murder from twelve years before, as a videographer documenting the history of the area. Brock McGovern walks in out of her past. Arrested and released for the murder, Brock hasn’t seen or heard from Maura since that fateful night. Now an FBI agent investigating disappearances, Brock begins to dig into what really happened twelve years before. A second chance at love and ever looming danger keep the pages flowing before delivering a sweet HEA in the speedy Harlequin formula Intrigue readers have come to expect and love. The whodunit is not totally unexpected but does have a little twist for added thrills. Ms. Graham delivers exactly what I expected to enjoy with her name in the Harlequin Intrigue line of books. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
Tangled Threat was an intriguing story filled with drama and suspense. The author definitely kept me guessing right until the bitter end. I was a bit sad that Brock and Maura were pulled away by parental interference when they were younger but did them becoming reacquainted. The ending felt a bit rushed but overall it was a good story that I finished in no time.
All roads lead back to the Frampton Ranch and Resort. Brock McGovern is an FBI agent being assigned to help locate 3 women who have gone missing. He was requested due he was present 12 years ago when a murder happened and the local police think it is connected. Maura Antrim is back filming short video clips for a know writer. From the moment they see each other, old feelings are present like they never went away. It is a race against time. Both believe the key to solving it all is at the resort. Only it wasn’t the cops or the FBI that figured it out, it was Maura. Wonderful story.
I love romantic suspense and I adore a good second chance story, but this book just left me… meh. I have loved everything I’ve previously read of Heather Graham’s work, and it absolutely kills me to come to the end of this book and be so sadly disappointed with the experience. It’s obvious that a lot of research went into creating this book. I think some of the research could have been left out of the book itself, though, it made for very dry, repetitive reading. I didn’t feel an emotional connection with or between the characters. Brock and Maura’s reconciliation was too easy. There wasn’t even a real conversation before they coupled back up. I didn’t get the proper sense of urgency from the law enforcement officials working the missing persons cases either. Where I felt the energy being focused was on the cold case, not the three missing women. I have to give the author credit for completely blindsiding me with the real culprit. I had backed the wrong horse in this race and hadn’t even considered the possibility of who the villain actually was. Also, I now know a whole lot more about Florida than I ever expected to learn.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through NetGalley.
Thank you Net-galley, Harlequin Intrigue for a copy of this story.
In the beginning I was hooked with this story, then it got a little slow for my liking but was still a good read, the ending was very rushed and that is why I am giving it 3 stars. I really enjoy books that keep me guessing and throwing curves, this one I figured out quick on and kept hoping it was going to prove me wrong. I loved the main characters they were strong and the story line was great, I just honestly wanted more from the ending and a bit more twists and turns to throw me off. I look forward to reading more from this author.
All I can say is wow!! This second chance romantic thriller kept me on the edge of my seat and flipping the pages as fast as I could to see what was going to happen as I was totally immersed in all that was happening. I loved Maura Antrim, video producer back at Frampton Ranch and Resort and her dynamic with the other characters especially Brock McGovern, FBI agent who she still loves twelve years later. If you enjoy well-crafted suspenseful romance, don’t miss “Tangled Threat” by Heather Graham. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
New York FBI Agent Brock McGovern has been requested, by Florida Law Enforcement, to return to his hometown in Florida to investigate a case of missing women and a murder. The investigation revolves around the Frampton Ranch, an area he is familiar with and where he was once unjustly arrested for murder. Maura Antrim never forgot the night a body was found hanging in the famous History Tree, nor the loss of her first love, Brock. Maura is stunned when Brock returns to town, but will she find out why he left and never contacted her? The danger from twelve years ago is still alive. Will they be able to find the missing women before it is too late? The beginning was a little confusing for me, but once I had a better grasp of the characters, the story began to flow. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
This book was kind of hard for me to rate. I admired how well written it was. It was very detailed. It also had some pretty good world building too. The major players of the book were pretty well fleshed out as well. However for me, I found the pace slow and so filled with historical places and legends. Like I said , that was well done but I could have done with less of that.
Maura and Brock were both good main characters and I would have liked to see more of them and less of the legends. They could have used a bit more depth to their characters interactions with each other.
It does get extra points though for a few startling twists towards the end of the book. The mysteries gets solved and everything tied up with nothing left undone.
I am giving it 3.5 Stars when it opens to reviews on Amazon.

I will admit that for me reading Heather Graham is always a comfort read. I get into her right away and she can keep me with the story. I love that in the books I read. I will tell you that I haven’t read one of her Harlequin Intrigue’s in forever. Heck, I haven’t read any of those in a long time.
More often than not I just love her books but this one was 50/50 for me. This is a good, well-written story that didn’t 100% work for me. I liked the characters very much and felt they are the main reason to read it. As always Graham writing makes you feel like you are there. She does a wonderful job bringing the place to life. I love when you read a book and you can see it in your head.
At times I found that the plot drags and it brought down the book for me. I’m not saying that I did like the story, I’m saying it’s not one of my favorites. I wish the book was longer because I think that would have helped it. She might have had the word count to read flesh everything out. I’m not into rating books with stars (I’d rather tell you what I think) but if I had to this is a 3-star book. Good, but not great.
This book was both way too fast and way to slow. I have to say I didn’t see the ending coming. In some ways this book was way too rushed and in others I didn’t understand how they were going to actually solve anything so quickly yet they did. An old love that you though was lost is rekindled again after twelve years. I was surprised by a lot that did happen after twelve years. This is a good mystery with some interesting history/ghost stories mixed in.

I’m going to try to keep this short because I don’t want this review to turn into bashing the author. This has taken me a while to write because I know this author has a lot of books under her belt and has quite a following. She’s a new-to-me author that I had high hopes for. Unfortunately, I just did not connect with this story at all. I kept waiting for things to turn around but it just never did.
The concept of this story is interesting and really had me looking forward to reading this book. I just didn’t feel the connection between any of these characters on any level. And I really struggled with the way the dialogue is written. It seemed very unnatural and stilted. On top of that, I felt as though there was quite a bit of repetition. Plus, I never really felt the suspense. I honestly didn’t care about the mystery.
Again, I don’t want to use this platform to bash anyone. Maybe this book is an anomaly in this author’s vast library. Or maybe I’m just not her audience. Whatever the issues, it just wasn’t a good fit for me.

Brock and Maura were separated by murder for 12 years and then another brings them together. This is a slow moving suspense story that comes to a scary conclusion. There is a large amount of historical and geographic facts that go along with the stories. The characters are interesting and well formed. In the end there is romance and passion that survives the killing.
12 years ago Brock was arrested for murder now he’s a FBI agent investigating the disappearance of several women in the same area of the History Tree. Maura and Brock were driven apart by circumstances and misunderstanding. Now there back in the same place to solve old and new crimes. I love a good ghost story and know one does it better than Heather Graham. They are full of history, legends, ghosts and suspense.. The only problem I had was the cast of characters is so large it’s hard to remember them all.
Tangled Threat (Kindle Edition) by Heather Graham … Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. it states it is the two books but I only got Tangled Threat… l Heather Graham did not disappoint…I was on pins and needles until I finished it.
Broc Mcgoveren ..now FBI and once boyfriend and coworker of Maura Antrim …now video producer come back together with a case of missing girls …some how tied to the History Tree. You will have to read it for yourself to find out more… There is wit, suspense, murder, mystery and steam all getting to a who done it and a HEA.
This book started out with an interesting concept. I liked the Florida lore, and how there was a parallel between what happened in the past and what was happening in the present. I also like how the author brought the characters back to the “scene of the crime,” albeit in different positions, 12 years after the fact. There were definite bones of a good story here (no pun intended). Unfortunately, the plot wandered about 2/3 of the way through, with the introduction of a strange piece of lore, a few seemingly pointed references that didn’t need to be included, and a muddled ending that is not as clear as it could have been. I ended with more questions than I had as I was reading the story. Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Intrigue, and the author for a complimentary, pre-release digital ARC of this book.
This is a fast read book by Heather Graham. It is a easy reading serial killer story witha second chance romance. Brock and Maura were and item when they were younder but when a body was found hanging from the famous old hanging tree he was accused of the killing even though he was proved innocent she left him not able to handle the fallout at the time. Years later He comes back to the area and he is an FBI agent and is working on a case she out of guilt decides to help him and their spark is lit again. A good story to pass the time with.
Interesting murder mystery with a second-chance romance.
I enjoyed the complexity of the murder mystery aspect, especially as it was played out both in the present time and more than a decade previously. Maura and Brock make the most of their second chance, getting past all the misunderstandings and machinations that kept them apart. I wish there was more “showing” and less “telling,” but other than that it was a worthy read. The HEA ties up all the loose ends nicely. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
