I showed up on his doorstep. At midnight. Missing 45 years’ worth of time.I’m Cassie Gearhart, and the last thing I remember, I cast a spell in 1974. Then, I woke up on a rainy July night to find it was 2019. And the entire Willow Creek Coven—my coven—was gone.Well, there is one witch left in Willow Creek, Virginia: Nick Felson, the grandson of my high priestess, a brooding farm boy with magic in … priestess, a brooding farm boy with magic in his blood and a chip on his shoulder.
Every time we get too close, love—the most powerful of magicks—draws us together. The passion? It threatens to be our undoing.
There’s a whole host of other problems, though. For one, Nick wants nothing to do with magic—and therefore, with me, a witch lost in time.
For another, the sinister magic that took the coven? It’s not finished with us.
It’s barely getting started.
Don’t miss the first book in the Tangled Magic Series, perfect for fans of the witchy magic of Charmed and for anyone seeking paranormal romance with a small-town setting!

Cassie is in a desperate situation when she calls upon the Guardian of Willow Creek for help. She discovers that she doesn’t get the answer she is looking for as the Guardian has her own agenda. To her surprise she wakes up 45 years after she casts the spell. When she goes home she finds there is a man there that ends up being her mentor’s grandson. Their chemistry is undeniable.
Love, Magic, time travel! Can’t wait to read the next book.
I normally don’t read alot of romance books but this story did not disappoint. It was the perfect combination of romance and spells that I needed. I have always loved books about witches and this book really brings out the loyalties that lie within a coven. I fell in love with characters, especially Cassie, and I can’t wait to continue reading more books from this author.
5/5 Stars
Tangled Roots (Witches of Willow Creek: Tangled Magic #1) by Denise D. Young
This is the first book I’ve read by Denise D. Young. She is a very talented author and I will be reading more of her work.
Cassie is originally from 1974. She was running from her family. Asking the Guardian for help didn’t really help her. Being a tree for 45 years isn’t as great as it seems. The quote I chose for Cassie is: “Have a nice night. Thanks for your help.”
Nick is the first person to see Cassie and learn the truth. Now that he knows his family is still alive just stuck somewhere. He finds that he is falling for Cassie. The quote I chose Nick is: “Now, I have a shot at a future. With the ones I love. With magic. With you.”
Highly recommended for Paranormal Romance lovers.
If you like Paranormal/Romance this book is for you. This was a very good, easy read. The story starts in 1974 when Cassie is trying to get away from her brother. She summons help to get away and is missing 45 years. When she reappears, she comes across a house where she meets Nick Felson. Even though at first he was tough, unsure and wants nothing to do with is magic, he falls for Cassie. I love how they were meant to be together. There were a few twists, turns, secrets along the way that unfolds and brought together a very good book. Looking forward to continuing the series!
Tangled Roots by Denise D. Young is a great first installment to what I believe is going to be a magical roller coaster witchy series. Personally this is my first read by Ms. Young but boy oh boy was I not disappointed. Ms. young not only provides us with a fantastic story, but she also gives us very detailed character descriptions, and a wonderful budding relationship between the main characters. This book was so wonderfully written that it kept me flipping the pages faster then I could blink to see what happens next. So if your looking for a great new paranormal series I highly recommend Tangled Roots.
This is beautiful story about two lost souls. Cassie And Nick find each other at the most unexpected time, but the right time. Nick is currently living in present day and trying to escape a town based on gossip and assumptions. Unable to take the whispers any longer he plans to sell his grandma‘s home and start fresh away from the whispering words. As he’s preparing for his new life he then meets Cassie,
Cassie is from 1974. At a time that she should be young and free she’s being imprisoned and abused by her family. She’s a witch who wants to explore her magical abilities, but her family does not allow her to do so. In her unhappy state she runs away and finds refuge within a witch coven. Her new found freedom is short-lived when her brother is sent to find her, and desperation causes her to do the unthinkable,
As we watch from past to present we experience true friendship, first love, and unforgettable magic.

4 Stars!!!!
I just love paranormal romances and this book hit the spot. I like how the author spins the story. The supernatural element to this book really adds to drama. The characters really come to life and entice the reader in.
Cassie and Nick have such a powerful chemistry in this book. Their journey of discovery and getting together is just empowering. Along the way they have an evil to overcome and a past as well. I really was hooked on this book and couldn’t put it down. I look forward to reading more from the author in future.
Y’all, I found my new favorite author.
Tangled Roots (Witches of Willow Creek: Tangled Magic Series Book 1) by Denise D. Young has captured my fancy and is not letting go. Anyone who is a fan of time travel stories (like Outlander) and witchy fiction (such as Practical Magic) will fall in love with this story, which is set in the small town of Willow Creek, Virginia.
Cassie Gearhart is a fantastic female protagonist and an easy character to relate to, even if she is a witch who has been asleep for 45 years. And then there’s Nick; the grandson of Cassie’s former High Priestess, and the only witch left alive to represent the coven. The author is an artist the way she weaves 1974 and 2019 together via Cassie. The imagery and details are rich and poignant, and Tangled Fates, book number 2, is next on my to-be-read list. I highly recommend this book and author with 5 stars!
This was a great first book in the Tangled Magic series. I love how the author combines paranormal and romance and how the author creates characters that are believable.
Cassie is a witch. After escaping her family she becomes part of a Coven at Willow Creek. When her brother comes to get her and bring her home she casts a spell for help so her brother can’t find her. That was in 1974.
Fast forward to 2019 and Cassie finds herself awake back in Willow Creek and nothing is how she remembers it.
Cassie meets Nick. Nick turns out to be the grandson of her former priestess of her Coven. Nick is reluctant to have anything to do with magic but as much as they try something magical is drawing them together.
Why are they drawn to each other? What happened to Cassie’s Coven? What magical force is working to push them together and what dark force is working to destroy them all.
This book was a beautiful start to a “tangled” story. See what I did there? No, but seriously, this book is seriously good with the way it wraps around you as the reader is entwined in this great story.
Amazing read for anybody interested in fantasies as I am. I liked this read from start to finish. I’m ready to delve deeper into the rest of this series as it’s captured my attention and it’s worth the read!
Cassie Gearhart is a young witch trying to escape from her family so that she can practice the thing she loves most, magic, her element is the air and she is powerful, so when she goes into the woods behind her adopted home in 1974 to cast a spell to hide her from her family, she doesn’t bargain on the price she must pay to do it, she is transformed into a tree and that is where she stays for forty five years. Nick Felston is a young man with tragedy written all over his features, he feels responsible for things which happened in the past and because of this, he refuses to use the magic he has been born with and has decided to sell his family home and move far away to the desert to escape the looks and comments of the people living in his small town.
The day he speaks to the realtor and signs the paperwork to sell his house is the day a huge storm breaks, it scares him more than he will admit to, but at the height of the storm and in the middle of the night, he is distracted by a knock on the door and when he opens it and comes face to face with a woman who looks like she has been sleeping in the woods and is more than bedraggled. This woman is Cassie and she has just been freed, however, she has no idea how much time has passed, so she is surprised to see a young male witch instead of her friend and when she asks to see the owner of the house, her high priestess of the coven, she is devastated to find out that her friend is dead. Nick is not very hospitable to begin with, but he does offer Cassie some tea and a blanket from a chest in the corner and tells her about the amount of time which has past since she cast her spell, however, Cassie isn’t feeling welcome, so she decides to head out on her own and find somewhere to figure out what is going on, this is when Nick realises that the woman is telling the truth that she has no idea what year it is and remedies his mistake and goes out into the storm to find her.
When they get back to the cottage, Cassie and Nick talk a little and come to an understanding, however, the next day, the attraction between them starts to blossom, however, both of them are scared at the magnitude of their feelings and Nick tries to push Cassie away, but after a few days pass, they struggle to keep denying it. The one thing they cannot deny is that their magic is drawn to the other so strongly that they realise that something deeper must be going on, that feeling increases when they meditate together and both have visions, but will they be able to overcome their hesitancy and work together to figure out what the visions mean, or will their dark pasts come back to haunt them? This is a paranormal romance in a small town where unexpected things can happen and the unpredictability leaves you wanting to know more.
I give Tangled Roots (Witches of Willow Creek: Tangled Magic Book 1) by Denise D. Young, 5 stars.
This was such an enjoyable book! It was so interesting and engrossing. The reason Cassie gets herself into the situation she’s in in 1974 is different and made of pure desperation on her part. I’m trying not to give anything away, but how she gets “frozen in time” is unique to me. Then there is the present day when she wakes up. She handles everything as well as she can, but with her beliefs firm and her heart true. Nick is troubled with the past and quickly learns maybe things aren’t as they seem. While I enjoyed Nick, Cassie made this book for me.
Then there is the situation they are thrown in. This is not just a possible romance story and Cassie dealing with being thrown into the future. There is danger and evil lurking, and it seems to be headed straight for their little town.
I highly recommend this book if you are a fan of fun, intriguing supernatural romance with wonderful characters.
Tangled Roots (Witches of Willow Creek: Tangled Magic series book 1) By Denise D Young Is a fun, entertaining Witchy read. While I found it a quick read that could also be simply because I didn’t want to put down. I wanted to know what was coming next!
Sweet Cassie has arrived in Willow Creek 2019 after casting a protection spell in 1974! just a bit of a time difference there right? She meets Nick who has been refusing to even acknowledge his magic after tragedy took his Coven a year ago. Their connection is undeniable and even though Nick isn’t happy about possibly having to use his magic again, he knows deep down it is the only way to protect not only themselves but their Coven and Willow Creek.
Tangled Roots really has wonderful, lovable characters and an interesting story line so if witches and magic full of heart is your thing you need to get reading right now!
Tangled Roots (Tangled Magic Series: Book One) by Denise D. Young was a really good read! This was also a very quick read. I’ve read the second book in this series before so I was very happy to finally get to go back and read the first. This book was entertaining, and sweet, and definitely sets the tone for adventure in the next installments. I can’t wait to read the third book next!
Cassie
In 1974, to escape my brother who was seeking me to bring me home, I created a spell of protection from the Guardian of Willow Creek. I couldn’t return home. I wanted to stay in Willow Creek.
The next time I awake it’s 2019. I reach the farmhouse in Willow Creek that was once home to the leader of my coven only to discover that she is gone along with everyone from my former coven. The only one left is Nick Felson, her grandson.
Nick
That night in 2018 has never left my memory. I haven’t used magic since that time. I’ve just met with a realtor to sell the farm. I can’t stay here any longer. I don’t need magic to keep me happy. I’m ready to move on. Then Cassie shows up at my door.
Their magic speaks. Voices tell them it’s not over. Willow Creek can still be saved, but how?
For witch lovers everywhere, Tangled Roots is a story that Denise Young has woven with magic in every word. Nick and Cassie are wonderful characters. Their story makes you cheer them on in the hopes that they can save Willow Creek.
Tangled Roots is the first book in the Witches of Willow Creek Tangled Magic series by Denise D. Young. I really enjoyed the book, it read very quickly and kept my attention throughout. This is one of those books that have you convincing yourself you will read “just one more chapter” because you can’t be left in the suspense of how the chapter just ended! I have always been drawn to the paranormal but when it comes to books, paranormal or paranormal romance genres are something I’ve only dabbled in. Denise B. Young’s writing left me craving and looking forward to reading more. The writing was descriptive enough to paint a vivid picture without going overboard and the characters had great depth. 4 out of 5 stars for me, can’t wait to read more by this author!
Tangled Roots (Witches of Willow Creek: Tangled Magic Book 1)
By Denise D. Young
This is a good paranormal romance with magic, witches, danger, and wonderful characters. The action starts pretty much at the beginning and goes throughout. Cassie casts a spell in 1974 and when she wakes up she finds out it’s 2019 and all her coven is gone. She is determined to find out what happened to her and her coven. Nick wants nothing to do with magic but what happens when Cassie shows up needing help? The pull and chemistry between these two is off the charts. I couldn’t help but root for both of them. The author wrote with such detail that I felt like I was right there in the story. This book kept me entertained. I can’t wait to read the next one in this series. I recommend this book.
A time-traveling witch? Cassie is stuck in a tree from 1974-2019. Nick is a witch who is hiding his powers. The two are brought together to rescue others from a diabolical plan. There are misadventures and new adventures for Cassie as she meets new family. So much has changed. The chemistry off Cassie and Nick could start a fire of its own. The town sounds wonderful. It reminds of one of the small towns in our area. Everyone knows everyone else’s business. It’s funny, light, and a great read for book 1 in the series. I can’t wait to read more.
I loved this book! It was right up my alley for paranormal romance. Cassie Gearhart, fresh out of highschool escapes a family who has made her suppress her magical nature. In an attempt to hide from her older brother she makes a blind deal with the Goddess. Fast forward 45 years, Cassie stumbles back to the farmhouse she has come to know so well. Only to find that the inhabitant is no longer the woman she knows but her grandson, Nick Felson.
After tragedy struck the small town of Willow Creek, Virginia, Nick had sworn off using magic and had plans of leaving forever. Until Cassie showed up. Both Cassie and Nick can feel the way their magic calls to the other, it’s like they are meant to be, or at least meant to use their magic together for a larger purpose.
I would recommend this book if you are looking for a nice easy read with a great story line.

This book is full of witches and magic. Cassie is need of help. She doesn’t want to be found so she casts a spell asking the Guardian for help. Magic has a price and the Guardian helps in the most unexpected way. They say everything happens for a reason. Fate brings Cassie and Nick together. The chemistry is instant and their love sparks an intense passion. There is an evil lurking in Willow Creek and it’s set on destroying everything and everyone. Can they survive it?
This is a good introduction to the series. The author presents the characters for you to realize that you will fall in love with them. Cassie is a wonderful, caring person with a strength of character that Nick needs. She will help him grow and gain confidence. Most of the action happens at the end of the book and the author throws in a few surprises. The book doesn’t fully end on a cliffhanger but it leaves you wanting more.
