This is a superb book for this time period. A reader will simply lose themselves and forget the day to day troubles when reading this. The characters of Jake and Melody really carry this book. You can see that despite the roadblocks that exist, there is chemistry there.
The unique use of POV stood out to this reader. The book starts out flowing through excitement in third-person. Then suddenly, the reader is thrust into first-person POV and that of a nut. Unexpected but that could be how you define the plot twists in this suspense-filled readfest.
Not going to give away the ending but it was a satisfying conclusion that I really enjoyed. A fun read that fans of classic romantic suspense will enjoy. Recommended to anyone looking for a nice easy read to take your mind off the crazy world of today.
Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author in the hopes I’d review it.
My Rating: 5 stars
This was an enjoyable story. Full of interesting characters. Characters you can picture.
Romance is not really one of my favorite genres. But this story kept my interest from start to finish. I think there are two basic reasons. One is that it isn’t just a romance. It has some suspense which makes it seem to have more depth. 2ndly, it’s well-written. It reads amazingly fast.
Don’t get me wrong. This is your handsome man, sad woman trying to make it on her own, book. But there’s a lot more to it than that. Parts that make you really and truly wonder how things will work out and parts written strongly enough that you’ll want things to work out your way.
Linda Trout also has several other books published. All have good reviews.
One of the things I love about all of Ms. Trout’s stories is how she weaves romance around a suspenseful plot. She’s so good at that. Melody and Jake go through quite an ordeal before they can claim their HEA. I fully recommend this book.
Jake Bennett, new Sheriff in Rock Ledge, lost his job as a detective with Chicago P.D. due the loss of a witness and unfair media coverage. Things are looking up when he meets Melody Rose, owner of the Tangled Rose Café. Melody’s husband was killed by a veteran with PTSD upon his return from military service and she has an aversion to guns. The peace of Rock Ledge is shattered by a commuter plane crash, a missing prisoner and several acts of vandalism. An intriguing story with romance and a host of characters in this small-town mystery with an unexpected ending. I am hoping for a sequel as there were several characters that seem to be begging for their own story. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review.
