Kane:One night, that’s all it was supposed to be. Tony—my confidant and the bartender I made friends with when I moved to Emerson Falls, Oregon—pushed me to have some fun, a word I’ve forgotten the meaning of since I was betrayed three years ago. But that deep red hair and those curves on that woman drew me in.After life-altering sex, I resigned myself to the fact I’d never see her again. But it … her again. But it seems the universe had other plans. Now we work together and I’m feeling things I never thought I could feel again. Before I know it, we’re so tangled up in each other, these feelings I’ve avoided for years come rushing back, and I feel like I’m on top of the world…That is until a ghost from my past threatens to tear my happiness apart once more.
Olivia:
I’m thirty-one and single, again. After catching my boyfriend with his dick in his secretary, I take off and head back home to Emerson Falls, reuniting with my family and my three best friends after years away. An out of character decision of mine to have a one-night-stand leads to the best sex I’ve ever had in my life with a man that makes me want more than just orgasms from him.
Lucky for me, we cross paths again when I realize he’s actually one of my new co-workers. After a push and pull of emotions, he finally admits he wants more with me, and I fall—hard. Just when all the pieces of my life feel like they’re finally falling into place, fate stirs the pot and threatens to shatter our romance. The threads of our lives were woven so tight, neither one of us thought that the edges could fray. Now the question is, can we untangle the mess and find our happily ever after?

(Dual POVs)
Olivia and Kane are both struggling with being betrayed in the past. Olivia just found her boyfriend cheating and immediately packs up to return home. The night she moves into her new apartment, she meets up with old friends at a bar and a sexy, lumberjack-looking man interrupts her while she’s dancing. They have one wild night together and a few days later, Olivia realizes she already knows one of her colleagues at her new teaching job, Kane!
I loved, loved, lovedddd how the author built up the sexual tension with the couple, both on their first night, and when they officially start a relationship. It wasn’t some simple, quick eye flirting from across the bar and they go home together. They take the time to get to know each other just a little bit while letting the sexual tension simmer. Their first night together was ! I also loved how Kane was somewhat of an alpha in the bed but had this sweet, boyish innocence to him about dating. Oh and you do NOT want to miss the motorcycle scene in this book! I really enjoyed the slight twist towards the end of the book! It made some of the small details cohesive.
Favorite quotes:
”Fuck, Red. Ditch the clothes. Now,” -Kane pg 54
“A man’s strength comes from his ability and desire to be there for a woman- to put her above him, to keep her from falling when she needs to jump.” -Kane pg 318
and in some twisted turn of fate, we got tangled up in each other- and now I’ll never let him go. -Olivia pg 323
Kane is the sweetest man ever. He is scared to invest his heart in anyone because he doesn’t want to be hurt again. Olivia is scared that Kane will be the same as his ex. The dynamic between the 2 hooks you from the very beginning. Harlow gets you invested in them from the start and you are rooting for them to be happy together.
For the past 3 years Kane has been dealing with the biggest betrayal ever. After 8 years of active military duty, he comes home to find his fiancee cheating on him with his best friend. Not being able to handle that he moves Emerson Falls. For 3 years he lives in solitude, only having one night stands until he meets Olivia. Olivia is the only women who has intrigued him. But Olivia has been betrayed also. Can Kane and Olivia find their happy ending together.
Loved watching the sparks fly between feisty Olivia and broken Kane!
This book sucked me in right away. I love romances that deal with everyday people. Kane and Olivia are both teachers, which I love, not just because I am a teacher, but because the reader gets to see a more grounded version of love and life.
Oliva is a red-hot woman and Kane is definitely hot for teacher. She’s reeling from a crappy ex-boyfriend and finds her world turned upside down. Kane is a lumberjack of a man (cue drooling) with a beard (cue more drooling) who is a veteran (HOT) turned teacher.
Their love is surprising and sweet. I loved the way the meet and how their relationship grows and they heal each other. This is a new-to-me author and I’ll definitely be reading more!
After being betrayed by his fiancé and best friend while serving in the Army, Kane relocates to Emerson Falls where he starts working as a history teacher at Emerson Falls High School. Olivia returns home to Emerson Falls after having her heartbroken. Kane and Olivia indulge in a one-night stand with each other not realizing that Olivia is the new math teacher starting at Emerson Falls High School on Monday. When they run into each other Monday morning at school things do not start off on good terms. The pull they have to each other is hard to ignore but Kane’s past is something he is going to have to move fast to make room for Olivia in his future.
Tangled was my first novel by Harlow James and I enjoyed the story from the beginning right until the very final page. The story brought on all the feels with quite a few laughs in between. I truly enjoyed how Kane and Olivia went from one hot night of passion for starting from the beginning almost as enemies and going through the whole courting process. I can not wait to read the next book in the Emerson Falls series to continue to watch Kane and Olivia grow as well as reconnect with all of their friends and family. Tangled is the first novel in the Emerson Falls series which can be read as a standalone or as the beginning of the series and is told from the first-person point of view.
When I read the synopsis, I knew I had to read this book! I am a huge fan of a couple being stuck together after a night of passion and this is exactly that and so much more! That one night turned into so much sexual tension between these two and I lived for it! This book is full of passion, tension, and tons of emotions. It will draw you in and have you on the edge of your seat dying for this couple to find their HEA.
Kane and Olivia are so amazing together and I couldn’t get enough of them. Having both come from bad past relationships, their journey to finding and loving each other is so endearing. They didn’t expect to become more than a one night stand, but the more time they were around each other the more they couldn’t deny the pull. And let me tell you I was so excited to see the walls start coming down and the hearts start melting. You will definitely be swooning!
I truly enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Emerson Falls Series. This was my first book by Harlow James and I am so glad it was because it was such an amazing read. I can’t wait to explore more of James’ work!
I read this one straight through! I loved Kane and Olivia! There’s no OTT drama and their besties-absolutely hilarious supporting characters in the best way possible! Did I mention Olivia and Kane are teachers?! The story itself was one I could sink my teeth into and the romance- swoon worthy!
Looking for a feel good, small town romance full of witty banter, steamy scenes and plenty of swooning? Tangled, is definitely for you. I have read a ton of really heavy books lately and this book was the perfect amount of humor, friendship, romance and love.Kane & Olivia had you routing for them immediately. The friends they surround themselves with were fantastic and so much fun to read. I have a definite soft spot for a romance between hot teachers ~ maybe because I’m now much closer to their age than I am to the actual high schoolers! It is always fun to me to read about the teachers and all of the things going on in the school that the students don’t realize.
Harlow James was a new author to me and I was not disappointed. Looking forward to the next couple in Emerson Falls to find
I have a feeling that great things are going to happen in Emerson Falls. It definitely kicks off with a bang! This is a great “supposed” to be one hot night that turned into a bit of a enemies-to-lovers when Kane and Olivia discover they are co-workers. Try as they might but they can’t fight their crazy hot chemistry. I love that Kane ends up being a total romantic in his “wooing” of Olivia. *swoon* They both have a great group of friends that cracked me up and the plot twists Harlow snuck in there were perfect. I can’t wait for more from this series!
Overall Rating – .5
I love a small town romance with all the feels and this little gem provided me with all of that.
We start with unfortunate circumstances when the MC’s both catch their retrospective partners cheating on them. Kane confronts them while in the act, then leaves feeling hurt and heartbroken thinking his ex was the one he was going to grow old with. Olivia catches her ex with his secretary and just backs up, packs up her stuff and ends up back in her home town.
They meet at the town bar, sparks fly and they share a night together thinking it was only that. A few days later they run into each other and suddenly realise they are work colleagues. Olivia tries to play it cool but Kane came across a little rude warning Olivia to not catch any feelings as a relationship is not for him. But things quickly change when they both realise they want something more, but due to their pasts, they will need to work for it.
Olivia, I really liked her character. She was strong, encouraging and helped Kane overcome his demons in ways she didn’t realise.
Kane (swoon), I loved him. He made me laugh with his little lists in his phone, that was cute and you could really feel he was trying, but really had no clue how to woo! He was hurt bad from his previous relationship but as he let Olivia in, he warmed up and boy does he have the moves!
I loved this story. It was sweet, heartwarming and gave me all the true love feels. Kane and Olivia were made for each other. There was a couple of twists that I didn’t see coming and made me devour the book even more than I was.
This is my first read of James and will certainly not be my last and I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series.

I connected easily with Kane and Olivia. Both are very enjoyable and perfect for each other. I loved how the relationship growed up. And the way that the author developed the characters, making me beleive for moments that they are real, with their reflexions and thoughts.
If you love Contemporary Romance with great characters, fun, hot and daring, this is the perfect story for you!

Title: Tangled by: Harlow James
My Rating: 4.5/5 stars
OMG! What a story! Sad to say I’ve never read a Harlow James book before. Boy was I missing out. James is an incredible writer. My introduction to Kane and Olivia’s world was a stellar one that did not disappoint.
It starts with Kane’s POV. A war hero, returning home after serving his country. Unfortunately, Kane gets the welcome home surprise he didn’t want. A surprise he never saw coming. Shocked, and hurt
he gather’s remnants of his shattered life he tried building with someone under false pretenses of love.
Fast forward years later, he is a school teacher who meets the beautiful girl he’d had a one-night fling with. Working. At his job. How can this be? He’d thought he was finished; one-and-done.
But now having Olivia there at his work, is proving difficult to ignore. Especially when he’d declared he’d never love again.
Soon he’s aware that was a lie. A vow he’d told himself to protect his heart. Olivia challenges that and then-some and everything he ever thought he knew about love.
These two characters were wonderful to read, felt so real. Their conflict; realistic. The chemistry was wonderful. Loved how Harlow was able to show emotion in her writing. She is an amazing storyteller and I’m glad to have read this amazing story.

Tangled by Harlow James
I am voluntarily reviewing this ARC.
Compelling, addictive, captivating, swoon worthy…all words that I would use to describe this book.
I can not say enough good about it.
Both Olivia and Kane have been burned in love.
Kane’s fiancé cheated on him three years ago, so he started over and began his teaching career.
Olivia walked in on her live in boyfriend of a year, with his secretary…enough said.
She left and moved back to her home town. There was a teaching position in her old high school, so she took it.
Her first night back in town she happens upon a bar and a beautiful man. Thinking it would only be one night, she could lose herself in this stranger then start her new life. Little did she know that fate had other plans for her and for him.
Kane moved to the top of my list as one of my favorite book boyfriends ever!
Like a said before. I loved this book. From cover to cover my heart raced and my toes curled and I sighed like only a good romance can make you do.
This is the first time that I have read Harlow James, but it won’t be the last!
Five stars for this heart racing read.
Kane and Olivia have a one-night stand and go their separate ways, thinking they’d never see each other again—until Olivia shows up in the school where Kane teaches to start her new job! Both were betrayed by their respective partners and neither feel ready to get into a serious relationship, but fate had other plans; and just when things start looking up, someone from the past threatens their future…
Tangled is a beautifully written book. I couldn’t wait to see what would rock Kane and Olivia’s boat, but the twist was so unexpected, I really didn’t see it coming! I liked how there was no unnecessary drama caused by misunderstandings or jumping to the wrong conclusions. I can’t wait to read Cooper and Clara’s story!
Tangled is a contemporary romance written in dual first-person POV. It’s a standalone that ends with a HEA. No cliffhanger.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
This was my first novel by Harlow James, and I was so excited to read it! This book is so good, and I can not wait for book 2 in this series!
Tangled took me through all the emotions and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. If you like books you can’t put down I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Tangled to start reading now! This story is about Oliva and Kane, both having just survived break ups they come together for a wild hot night. This isn’t your typical one night stand and I am not sure anyone could have done this book justice the way Harlow did. These two characters are stubborn, heartbroken, and wonderful! They truly are tangled!
Gahhh Harlow did me good with this amazing book!
This isn’t my first read by Harlow and I LOVE everything she writes but this story was so good and addicting!!
I just fell in love with Kane. Oh this man just broke my heart and then put it back together with how he didn’t realize he was a true romantic. Gosh he is one of my new favorite book boyfriends. The way Harlow wrote him just really pulled the heartstrings.
And Olivia was so strong and sweet, the best mixture of the type of heroine that I love! How they got together was so different than a typical one night stand but I loved everything about it.
5⃣
recommendation!
OMG!!!!! What an amazing story was Tangled (Emerson Falls book#1). This is my first book by author Harlow James and definitely won’t be my last. The main characters Kane and Olivia both come from heartache that sends them into a journey that lands both of them in the town of Emerson Falls. The story starts with a very particular meeting on Tony’s bar that had things heating up very quickly, and let me tell you its hot. What both of them think its a one night thing becomes something else because they get to see each other in the most hilarious way. Both of them try very hard to denied the pull to each other, but chemistry its something you can not denied and little by little they start exploring the possibilities of a normal relationship. My hearth goes to Kane, I love his character so much because he has such hard time putting his walls down to let Olivia in and honestly he has to work very hard on it. The side characters of the story are also very good , Olivia’s best friends are the best group of girls you can hang out with and her parents and hot brother cop are so supportive of her that I felt in love with them too. Drew and Tammy(Kane’s best friends)are also a super cute couple that I enjoyed too. There is a twist in the story that you can not see coming and wow I was took by surprise. Now would this couple be able to move forward and forget their past demons? Its something you must find out!!
After catching her boyfriend cheating on her Olivia decides to move back to her hometown Emerson Falls, Oregan to be closer to her family and her friends. She takes a job as a teacher at the local high school but before her first day decides to let off some steam and enjoy a night out with friends and let go a little
Kane Garrison is left vulnerable and hurt after being betrayed by his fiance in the worst possible way. 3 years on and he still has a hard time letting people in and is somewhat content with his life and small circle of friends but is also trying to find a way to push through his issues and fears and maybe be open to the possibility of taking a chance on something new
Kane and Olivia meet and after a night of heat and passion go their separate ways thinking one night was all it was ever going to be but fate had other plans for these two and their lives were about to become tangled in a way neither are expecting
I loved Kane and Olivia’s story. It was heart warming, sweet, fiesty and intriguing. They had insane chemistry from the moment they met and I loved seeing them grow and change each others lives for the better. Watching Kane slowly let down his walls and work through his issues was shown beautifully. He was such a complex and broken soul but with a heart of gold and so full of love and strength. Olivia was sassy, funny, incredibly sweet and loving as well as vulnerable. I loved all the side characters in their lives and this was such a great start to what im sure will be a fantastic series and I can’t wait for book 2
Tangled is book 1 in the new series: Emerson Falls by Harlow James. It is a slow burn love story between Kane, an ex-marine who has been burnt by love and doesn’t know how to move forward and Olivia, a newly single woman moving back home after catching her boyfriend in a compromising situation and needs to start over. They meet each other and have a one-night stand thinking they won’t see each other again, but fate has it in for them and it seems that they will be working together.
This book is full of what it is like to be in a relationship when you’re always questions yourself and your past. Kane seems to carry a lot of ghosts in his past which seems to influence how he treats Olivia, not only from his past relationships but also due to his PTSD. He has a solid foundation in Emerson Falls and it was nice to see his friends giving him a slap up in the head for the way he was treating Olivia. That being said, when he was invested, he was really sweet, giving it his all.
Olivia on the other hand knows what she’s talking about and what she wants. Although confused about the reasons why Kane treated her so harshly in the beginning, she doesn’t let him walk all over her and I felt throughout the book you saw her put on her big girl pants and deal with what life was throwing at her. The fact that she has a good tribe also helps.
This book is a low burn romance but when there were some sexy scenes, they were really hot and showed the differences between a one-night stand sexy times and that within a developing relationship.
I really loved the progression of the story and didn’t see the twists that came in part way through. How they were handled was intriguing as was it intriguing to see Kane’s conversations with his therapist. Harlow James has a way of writing where you become invested in the characters and want them to find their HEA. This book is filled with romance, wittiness, intrigue and some wonderfully strong main characters as well as secondary ones too.
A beautiful written story and an overall great read!

When her love life takes a nose dive Olivia decides there is really nothing holding her there with her ex, so she packs her bags and heads home to Emerson Falls. Hoping it will be the perfect place to restart her life and let her broken heart heal… and she finds that and much more… a hunky lumberjack kind of more!
She never expected to find love again so soon, but the moment that she meets Kane she knows there is something special brewing between them, something worth holding onto. But with both their pasts heavily lingering and their mistrust in love, it may be a little harder than they anticipated to give love a second shot!
Tangled is a story of second chances, mending hearts, defeating demons, and fresh starts. These two wounded souls had both been burnt by love and were certain that they were never going to give it another shot. But as soon as they met they knew what they had was worth more than one night, but finding the courage to embrace it was a little easier said then done. They both had a lot of healing to do, and weren’t sure if jumping into another relationship was the right step, but staying away from one another was darn near impossible. I thoroughly enjoyed following them along on their journey, watching them heal one another’s hearts, and see their love blossom. Highly recommend you give this one a try, it had a healthy dose of feels, a few unexpected surprises, and the steamy moments were a plenty… it was the perfect romantic literary escape!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
