A murder case where the stakes are personal… shifter from the Alexander pride and a by-the-book cop who’d rather keep me safe in my lab…or his bedroom.
Uri
Rules are made for a reason. But nothing in the official Shifter Affairs handbook covers what to do when you’re forced to partner up with your true mate. Especially when Lyla has a penchant for fighting for the underdog and finding herself in dangerous situations. But with serial killer on the loose and the body count rising and hitting closer to home, only one rule matters.
Nobody threatens a shifter’s mate and lives.

Baiting the Royal is the third book in the Shifter Affairs series, and follows the story of Uri and Layla. Uri is supposed to be Layla’s mentor, but his feelings keep getting in the way, and his denial of said feelings! Everyone else can see what’s going on, but he refuses to. Layla is no shrinking violet though, and is prepared to fight Uri to make him see just what they could have together, if only he would just stop being so stubborn!
Just like Shrek’s onion, this story has layers. You have a romance between Uri and Layla. You have the story with Bryon and his pack. You have Izzy. You have Sam. You have Sam and Colin. Plus you have the big bad. Too much you might think? Not really, no. There is enough here to keep your interest, to keep the story moving along, and to give you food for thought.
This story is complete, in and of itself, while still leaving you wanting more from this world. So many stories, and I just hope Ms Corrigan writes them all! At least Sam and Colin, though, please!!!
With no editing or grammatical errors that spoilt my reading, this book was completely engrossing from start to finish and is absolutely recommended by me.

Archaeolibrarian – I Dig Good Books!
I was given a free copy of this, and the previous two books, in exchange for an honest review.
It appears I’m in the minority here, but it took me a long time to get through this book when I can normally devour a novel in a sitting or two. The overall plot wasn’t bad, and kept me going, but I had major issues with Uri and Lyla.
We met Uri in the first book, as Rick’s new partner, and I liked him immediately. Quirky, a stickler for rules and obviously fiercely loyal, I looked forward to his pairing. Lyla, too, seemed strong and determined to fulfill her role in Shifter Affairs, because of the past she’d overcome.
Without driving into spoilers, I now found Uri to often be completely ignorant of Lyla’s feelings and past. She escaped a fate of being a caged pet to find a potential lover who repeatedly emphasizes his “possession” of her. And while she is originally displeased with this – moreso due to her wanting more out of their relationship than his dominant crap – she quickly welcomes the concept as part of being one’s true mate.
I’m a fan of sexy, dominant men in my fantasy stories, but I found this series forced that line a little too heavily.
I also found, as in previous books, that finer editing was required, as there were at least a few repetitive sentence fragments, even within the same scene, that need fixing.
It wasn’t a bad book, nor is it a bad series, but it didn’t keep me wanting more.
I was ecstatic to see this on sign ups for my ARC site I have read every single book in this world previously. It didn’t quite hit the mark the others did as I feel like it threw the reader in a few chapter into the book rather than had a beginning and the way the story progressed between the two MCs didn’t feel as natural as the past MCs from the books. It didn’t progress the storyline of the scientists and experiments really, but did mention Nina a bit and the trafficking of shifters that’s been in all the previous books. I am excited to see where some of the newer things mentioned goes and how it adds to the looming problem of the experiments. I don’t have much to say on the 18+ parts as I would rather read the Dana Archer clean versions but this is what the ARC site had and what kindle unlimited. Overall it was good, a little confusing, and a little forced at times but kept me reading. It also got me a bit excited for the future books and the new mythology added to the beginnings of the shifters.
I received a free copy of this book via Hidden Gems Books and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Baiting the Royal is the third book in the Shifter Affairs series, but can be read as a stand alone and fits within Ms. Corrigan’s Shifter World. Lyla is a human living within the shifter world, and she realizes real fast that her mentor, Uri, is someone special. She peruses him, pushes him, and craves to see the wildness beneath his clean and calm demeanor. But when Lyla and those she loves is targeted by danger, will Lyla survive the Royal she’s falling for and the danger she’s up against?
The storyline to this book was completely thrilling and captivating, and I loved that Uri and Lyla had to work together, using all of the contacts that they had, all of the skills they’ve learned over the years, and using each other to cover their backs, hearts, and souls! This book has many twists and turns, you don’t know quite who you can trust, and Uri and Lyla need to figure out their attraction and what they mean to each other. Lyla is so brave and bold, loyal and caring and I really loved her character! Uri… I have been waiting for his book since the first of the series and I was disappointed that I didn’t love him as much as I wanted to. He played a lot of head games with Lyla, but hated it when she played any sort of game with him. He felt the need for a black and white world, but had so much wildness and guilt inside and I almost felt like I got whiplash from his character. But, I loved the passion that they brought out in each other, I loved the trust that eventually grew between them, and really enjoyed how the ending all played out. There’s a lot still open in this series, a lot that can come from future books, but I thought this was a solid addition and definitely enjoyed this suspenseful paranormal romance!
I am enthralled by the Royal-Kagan/Shifter Affairs series’. Each book can be read as a standalone, but there is an underlying story that weaves them all together, which keeps me coming back for more. Baiting the Royal is steamy, suspenseful, action-packed and weaves a story that keeps you riveted until the end. Can’t wait for the next in the series!
To get a thrilling paranormal read this author can be counted on to give that with this one being that does indeed do that. Lyla and Uri head up this one with us quickly getting into their story. The drama begins to seep in with suspense building as we follow these two. The chemistry these two have wraps around us also but danger is around the corner so you are kept on your toes. This author knew how to give us what we wanted in this one.
This story read a little like an episode of Criminal Minds or possibly even Law & Order: SVU with a decidedly paranormal twist. Nothing in this book was quite what it appeared to be, leading me through so many twists, turns, and double-crosses. This book was truly an emotional roller-coaster ride. I experienced laughter and tears and everything in between. I was very surprised by who Uri turned out to be. We’ve previously seen him as a bit of a rigid, rule-follower, so it was refreshing to see him break free from that mould. Lyla takes over this story like a whirlwind. I loved her great big heart and fierce independent streak. I just wasn’t as big a fan of how those traits kept leading her to do things that I thought fell into the “too stupid to live” category. I really appreciated that she did learn from those situations and didn’t keep throwing herself into danger all the time. Now, I no longer have any guesses about what the author is setting us up for next. All I know for certain is that I want to read it whatever it is.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.
Wow. This story had so many levels of brokenness and hurt going on, it was too real. Even if you took the shifter elements out of the story, it would still be an addictive book to read. Lyla has had a shitty life, but she still walks in kindness, and even though she got dealt an awful childhood, Sam and Izzy had it even worse. The situations were so realistic and common with kids of addicts that you can’t help but be drawn into the story. Uri takes longer to get attached to, but he has his hangups too. I loved the way Lyla chased him and how their romance had to grow before it was realized. It was a difficult book to put down and I spent a nice rainy day lost in that world!
Lyla was a fantastic character. As a coroner for the shifters affairs she was also an agent looking into some deaths of shifters due to a drug. Uri is an agent who is also a royal shifter. Loved the chemistry and lots of steam. Tons of action and twist in the story. Secondary characters were also well developed. This book kept my turning the pages as the two get involved in solving this problem. Loved it!
I Adore these Royal Shifter Stories!!
Our main characters are Shifter Affairs agents. Lyla is human, and would not know shifters existed, except her sister Sam was kidnapped and kept by a shifter. Now a “newcomer” is in their town and experimenting and ultimately killing the homeless. Uri, a royal shifter (3 animals), is fighting his attraction to Lyla, and Lyla is having none of it!
Danger, intrigue, romance, relationships and shifter protocols all play a part in this fabulous story which will keep you on the edge of your seat and highly entertained!!
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
Very enjoyable and entertaining read. Plenty of intrigue, action, and of course steamy romance to keep you hook from beginning to end. But there also angst and mary of other emotions. Looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Lyla a human who is now the new agent and coroner for Shifter Affairs and she is always some place she shouldn’t be but she grew up on these streets and she thinks because of that everybody is going to treat her with respect. Uriel is a Royal to the feline clan Alexander and his partner Rick is a feline shifter also, always seem to be there when she needs them but this time Uri kissed her and she seem to be quite taken with his attentions. But he is not interested he says. There is a serial killer among them. They seem to know his scent and who he is but he seems to be pretty smart he keeps them on their toes to the end. Great story line and the characters were all very interesting. I was given an ARC without obligation from the author. i am providing an honest review.
