Taming Him is a sweet and SEXY cowboy romance. It all started with a tropical vacation and lots of no strings attached fun. Alex Bishop is quite the playboy, but he falls hard for River Lancaster.
I enjoyed listening to this one on audiobook with wonderful narration.
This book introduces all the Bishop brothers and I’m looking forward to reading more of their stories.
-4.5 Stars!-
This is the first book by Kennedy Fox that I have read. It definitely won’t be the last one either. I’ve already started on the next Bishop Brothers book. I really loved reading this book, it sucked me right in.
What happens in Key West doesn’t always stay in Key West.
Alex is the cowboy man-whore of the town in Texas he lives in. He doesn’t do relationships. When his best friend Dylan wins a couples trip to Key West, why not take your best friend? Right?
Alex may be a man-whore, but he is a southern gentleman and charmer. He is the complete package. Almost too good to be true.
River is a very hard working nurse. She deserves a vacation and let’s her best friend talk her into booking a trip to Key West. She needs a break, especially after her ex-asshole and roommate.
I love River and Alex’s first meeting. She didn’t fall for the cheesy pick up lines. I was laughing.
Who would have thought she would knock him on his ass.
This book is broken into two parts, first part is Key West. 2nd part is after. I don’t want to say too much and give anything away.
The characters are great. I was expecting a little more drama from Crazy.
The Bishop boys are very fun though and can’t wait to read more about them.
Alex Bishop works at his family ranch and parties it up in the small town with his brothers and best friend. He’s known for being a love ’em and leave ’em type of guy, so he jumps at the opportunity to have a fun-filled weekend in Key West. Plenty of alcohol and even more women to choose from, at least that’s his plan. Then he meets River and all his usual intentions of being just a one-night kind of guy go out the window.
River is a pediatric nurse in Wisconsin nursing a broken heart and burnt on the idea of love and happily ever after. Her best friend knows the only way to cure the blues is Key West and finding a new guy to get under. She doesn’t even want to find a man, but Alex Bishop is convincing and soon a no-strings attached romance begins. Then they go home and it turns out it might not be no-strings attached after all.
Cowboys, drinking, and romance…Taming Him’s blurb promised a wild ride and Kennedy Fox gave readers just that. It was hilarious and sexy, featuring two characters who have no desire for love and find it anyway. Of course, it’s not a typical romance it isn’t just Key West and a no-strings attached romance that turns into something more, that’s what makes it so fun. The two return home, but what happens on vacation never stays on vacation, we all know that by now. It turns into a romantic story, with the two discovering they share more than just lust and alcohol-fueled hook-ups. The glimpse of true-romance that they share in Key West just scratches the surface of the connection they build upon once River gives in and makes her way to Texas and the Bishops brother who rocked her world.
Taming Him was far longer than I expected, there’s a lot fit into the pages and while some of it was redundant and not engaging for me, the majority of the novel kept my attention. Both Alex and River have some serious reservations about relationships, but they fall into one another easily. I enjoyed how their relationship was built upon, especially with Alex’s party boy ways falling away finally allowing him to be a good partner to River. Each goes through a lot of changes, their characters developing as the story progressed. There are also some fantastic secondary characters mixed in to the beautiful ranch setting and traditional Bishop brothers wildness.
Taming Him wasn’t my usual romance read, it lacks the angst I usually love but makes up for it with smooth-talking cowboy Alex and immune-to-love River. It’s the sort of romance that provides you an escape, the kind that’s comforting, yet still funny, and definitely worth the read. I enjoyed Taming Him and can’t wait to spend more one-on-one time with the other Bishop Brothers.
HOLY Heck! What a wild ride in the country! The Bishop Brothers are going to be so much fun! This first book was out of control, funny, sexy, heart gripping and loving. Those are the ingredients that make Kennedy Fox books the BEST. I love the way this book was written, the characters are phenomenal, the way the small town feel is described is perfect. Cannot wait for Evan!!!
I received an arc of Needing Him, the second of the Bishop boys series and was told that I should read the first book first. After reading, I’m glad I did because I got a feeling for the Bishop family from that first book. The book was a little heavy going at first, because it was establishing the setting for the series. The language was a little stilted and heavy and the dialogues didn’t read real. However, as the book progressed, it improved a lot and I got invested into the story.
There are four Bishop boys and one girl , Evan is the oldest and a doctor. Then there are identical twins Jackson and John, total opposites in characters, one is serious and the other is a daredevil, and the youngest is Alex, the protagonist in this book. The Bishop girl, Courtney, is already married and expecting triplets. There’s another cowboy that spends almost all his time in the Triple B ranch, Dylan. Alex and Dylan are best friends since they were babies and they are the real double trouble. Dylan won a contest and the prize was two-weeks all expenses paid vacations at a resort in Key West. Since he’s not a ladies’ man (i.e. player) like Alex is, he didn’t have any girlfriend to invite, so he invites Alex to come as a wingman and help him find a woman. A little pathetic, but Dylan is sweet and shy, not outgoing and cocky as Alex.
River is a nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit of the Milwaukee Children’s Hospital. She just ended an affair with an asshole when she learned he was married. Then she found him with her roommate. This convinced her to go on vacations with her best friend Natalie and her boyfriend. They all went to Key West for a two-week vacation.
The way River and Alex meet was the cheesiest scenes I’ve ever read. Alex tries a pick up line with River and she shots him down without mercy. They really connect later, when Dylan has an accident and River helps. River’s friend Natalie does a lot of matchmaking to push River into Alex’s arms. To be truthful, I found Natalie to be very disagreeable, always drunk, loud, opinionated and interfering. However, her feelings were in the right place and she wanted to help her friend find love.
In Alex and River’s story, Alex fell in love fast and he was pushing for a relation. River was not convinced. She lost her sister to cancer when they were little and this was what motivated her to pursue a career in nursing. Then her parent’s marriage failed and she doesn’t have a great relation with them. She doesn’t have a lot of faith in marriage. She’s very guarded and uptight, according to Natalie. However, once she’s forced to visit Alex in Texas, she’s captivated by the small town atmosphere, the Bishop family dynamics, their way of life and the caring that everyone feels, even with such an active gossip mill. There’s a lot of goodness going around and it feeds River’s soul. I loved the Bishop family system, it’s a matriarch. Mama Bishop rules and her word is the law. Papa Bishop may be a dictator with his boys but with Mama Bishop he’s a kitten LOL. Even so, Mama Bishop is a caring and generous woman who will help anyone in need. Her house is a refuge of love and understanding for River, who finds the family she needed so sorely.
The love story is lovely, but what I loved the most is the family story. The support and the scrabbling and insulting and loyalty that the Bishop siblings have. The authority and support of the parents. The community that rallies around a person in need. All the small town feelings. And I loved the side story of Dylan and his barracuda girlfriend Jessica. Poor guy!
HOLY ALEX BISHOP! Another Amazing read from Kennedy Fox! Absolutely was sucked into the book right from the start! The chemistry between Alex and River is intense! The surprises in the book keep you on the edge of your seat and make you not be able to put this book down. I highly recommend reading this book! This book will make you want your own sexy cowboy all to yourself 🙂
Taming Him is the first book in the Bishop Brother series by Kennedy Fox. We first met the Bishop Brothers in This is Reckless and This is Effortless – Drew and Courtney’s books. Now we get to learn more about the brothers.
Alex Bishop is your typical Texas cowboy; boots, cowboy hat, dirt and a ladies-man. When Alex and his friend go on a 2-week vacation to Key West; this is where Alex meets River Lancaster, a nurse from Wisconsin. The two start a vacation fling. Three months later, River surprises Alex in Texas with some big news. Now the question is will she stay in Texas and can they make this relationship work?
I loved this book, Alex and River were adorable together and the rest of the Bishop family was a laugh riot. I can’t wait to read about the other brothers.
**Totally recommend Kennedy Fox’s books to any reader that loves romances book!!! **
5 Stealing His Heart Stars!!!
Well, they’ve done it again. This book is an outstanding start to a new series by the duo known as Kennedy Fox. And this time we get cowboys with tight jeans and oh my goodness I was captivated the moment I started this book.
It starts off with a Prologue that almost broke me. I wasn’t expecting it that’s for sure, and it totally sets the tone of who River is and the whys of how she lives her life. My heart literally hurt for her and I absolutely cried.
For all intents and purposes River and Alex should have never met, but when they both end up in Key West for two weeks of fun in the sun and hopefully some sexy times between the sheets, and while there’s an initial attraction between them, she has no patience for Alex’s cheesy pickup lines. But one day, when River comes to the aid of Alex and his best friend Dylan they just can’t fight their crazy chemistry.
“Alex looks at me with so much fire in his eyes, it almost burns my skin.”
And so begins two weeks of some of the best and sexiest weeks either of them have ever experienced. And what was supposed to be a friends with benefits kind of thing, real feelings begin to be felt. I could feel how our H/h felt for each other. They’ve both had such a rough go round in the romance arena so to find someone that they connected with on a visceral level was beautiful.
Fast forward a few months and River has come to Texas to see Alex and she’s got a surprise for him! I absolutely LOVED how he didn’t question her and how he was not afraid to admit his feelings this time. This book had so much levity while also being dirty and sexy at the same time. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t just them jumping back in bed together. I admired Alex so much more because he was willing to do whatever it takes to make this work.
Along the way we meet the entire Bishop family and all their dynamics. And when the Bishop boys are involved you know there’s soon to be some raucous fun! The fact that this family opens their arms to River, after a rough start, made me fall in love with all the Bishops. It’s clear who runs this family and it’s not who you think it is!
In the end, this book is exactly what I was hoping it was going to be. Kennedy Fox knows how to deliver a book with a punch that drew me, had me simmering and then gave me all the emotions plus some. I seriously cannot wait for Evan’s story…that’s going to be steamy and hot!!!
While Alex and River’s love story is not a new one, I found this book to be a fun and easy read. I absolutely loved the ending!!
TAMING HIM is told in two parts. The first part is during the two weeks Alex and River meet in Key West on vacation. They return home to Texas and Wisconsin, respectively with their “rule” that they would enjoy their time together then go their separate ways.
A lot of this book is an introduction to the Bishop family so several secondary characters in the form of relatives or small townies are encountered.
During the second part of the book, River arrived in Texas to see Alex. They take their romance slow and there is very little angst or conflict in the story. That made it a little slow for me, but Evan’s story is next and sounds very interesting.
It’s smutt but heartfelt smutt
Every time you think it will turn into a romance they just get naked. No shade but if you are going to have a surprise baby romance then add a little romance. No hankypank for almost eight months and there isn’t one scene where they just throw down their emotional baggage. Seems like a waste. The whole book is a wasted opportunity because it’s in the wrong genre. It could have been a cute romance instead it’s an emotionally deaf erotica with unimaginative sex. There is more to bedroom sport than a nice endowment.
Already reading the second book! I loved all of the characters!!! Each had their own personality brought into the story and meshed together felt like a real family in a sense.
River is fresh off a nasty break up, worked to the bone as a pediatric nurse only to find her ex sticking it to her roommate. So a two week vacation with her best friend to Florida is a must. Alex is a Texas cowboy rancher through and through. When his best friend wins a trip to Florida he begs Alex to go with him. What could be more fun than sun, drinks and ladies. Alex and River keep having awkward encounters and as much as River tries to run away from Alex fate keeps pulling them together. So they give in and decide to have a vacation fling. Three months later Alex is shocked to see River in his hometown letting them both know their lives are changing.
What rock have I been living under? Why am I just now reading this book? I adored every second on this book. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I wanted to nut punch Alex – basically I felt all the things. The banter and chemistry between River and Alex was off the charts. I couldn’t get enough of them but I also really loved the family dynamic that the Bishops had. They were all so hilarious together but you could tell they will have a very interesting story to tell. I am so glad I found this book, it was definitely a favorite and I cannot wait to devour the rest of the Bishop brother’s books.
I have not found a book by Kennedy Fox that I have not enjoyed. I just love the way they write their books. They pull you in and get you hooked before the second chapter. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Alex and River so much. I cannot wait to finish reading the Bishop Brothers Series. I LOVE small town romance, but throw in a dirty talking cowboy with steamy scenes you got you the perfect book.
This book has all the yumminess and feels. Ride a cowboy! My only complaint is I like the original cover better.
Taming Him, first book in the Bishop Brothers series.
Alex Bishop, a big womanizer but still a gentleman, because his Mama taught him right.
River Lancaster, a woman with a broken heart.
“Women don’t usually affect me like this. But River was different. She was a bad girl pretending to be good, a thief who stole my heart without warning.”
It’s a beautiful story, with a beautiful connection between the two MC’s. I love this world the author duo has created!
“The Milky Way is almost as bright as the moonlight, and I smile thinking about all the stars I wished upon over the past three months. Somehow, I roped the moon and got my girl.”
My Group Read choice. We picked this one and I enjoyed it a lot. I read it in one sitting. Stayed up way past bedtime. Key West to Texas the locations were well described. My favorite secondary characters were Natalie, and Jackson. This book tickled me. Some parts were so funny. I wonder what happened to Dylan and his vacation fling? This was so well written. I highly recommend this book .
After reading about the Bishop brothers in the Checkmate: This is Reckless and This is Effortless, the Courtney’s brothers finally get their own story. This book is about Alex Bishop, who is known as the love ’em and leave them type. Can he be tamed? Alex and River have wonderful chemistry from the beginning and I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. Alex Bishop is one swoony cowboy. I loved how relatable River (the heroine) was. This is a hilarious and sexy read. Looking forward to the next book in the Bishop Brother’s series.
Okay I haven’t read that much Cowboy books and haven’t read a lot of books by this duo. But holy hell this was good. I seriously need to read more cowboys, lol
Alex Bishop is a sexy hot panty melting Texan cowboy, who is in our language a bit of a manwhore. But the chemistry between him and River, holy hell, freaking loved it. If anything you will be hooked with their back and forth banter. The beginning was a bit slow for me, but soon i was hooked and couldn’t stop reading.
River is a nurse from Wisconsin and they meet in Key West where Alex is on holiday with his friend Dylan. And when they meet initially it is a no strings attached type of scenario and seriously who were they kidding, these things never work, right. But will this work out for them or will this really just be a vacation romance.
Definitely a good start to this series and definitely one that will make you want to get to know the rest of these brothers up close and personal.
Cowboy Alex Bishop just wanted to get away for a vacation and to have a little fun. River Lancaster just ended a bad relationship and want to get away for rest, relaxation and to forget about men! Alex and River happened to be staying at the same resort and decided to have a fun, 2 weeks adventure with no strings attached. They went their separate ways but were drawn back together.
This was a fun, hot and angsty love story.
