G.K. Brady is a new author to me. I came across Taming Beckett in an online promo and thought I’d try it out on KU. I’m really glad I did. I really liked this story. It’s a little bit of a slow start as far as the romance part goes, but that didn’t bother me. I like a good slow burn and the back story was important. Still, from the first chapter, I was hooked. I wanted to know how Beckett was going to get himself turned around, give up his bad habits, and get back everything he’d lost. I wasn’t disappointed.
And Paige. I was annoyed with her at first for making up excuses for her husband, as I’d already guessed what he was doing, but then I suppose that’s what most of us would do in her situation. I was glad when she finally made up her mind that she was done.
I love how she and Beckett reacquainted. I also loved how he called her Andie. It was cute and endearing, just like the man himself turned out to be.
If you haven’t read this book yet, even if sports romance isn’t your thing, try this one out. It’s funny and cute, sweet and steamy, and something you’ll remember for some time. I can’t wait to read the next.
Beckett loses everything when his latest incident with drugs goes sideways. His career is truly over and he has nothing left to show for any of his work no friends and no money. Now he has to decide what to do with the next chapter of his life. He hires Paige to sell his home and they begin a friendship. Paige is struggling with her own problems at home with her husband. Through their friendship they find some solace to deal with their problems before moving on in their lives. But will they get their chance of happiness together?
This is a great story with no cheating. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend it to any book lover.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the 1st book in a new series and is Beckett and Paige’s story. Beckett is a pro hockey player, who is a bad boy, and due to making a series of bad decisions and on a road of self-destruction, he hits rock bottom. For all of Beckett’s flaws I found him endearing and just wanted to hug him. Paige is a real estate agent who is ambitious, and she and Beckett meets at the perfect time in both of their lives, and the bad boy is tamed by the right girl. This is a well written story which is emotional, and with engaging and relatable characters, challenges, and love, which leads to an entertaining and riveting page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Limited to 5 stars …..
Taming Beckett by G.K. Brady is one of my favorite books of the year. Thank goodness I have a kindle book … I’ve re-read so many times I would have wiped the ink off a physical book.
Why did I like it? The story is a sports romance with a hot hero … but it’s more than that. Our hero (Beckett) is damaged and he did it to himself … drugs, women, parties … in fact, so much so that he’s kicked out of the league.
Paige is struggling too … she’s in a loveless marriage that takes a turn for the worse. … and Beckett is just the reminder she doesn’t need.
The story is a slow build that goes from a barely tolerable business relationship to friends to lovers. The dialogue and texting is witty and romantic … it will have you cheering for Paige and Beckett all the way. But hang onto your heart because when the unthinkable happens, Paige has to figure out if she’s going to give Beckett … and herself … a shot at happiness.
This standalone book is well written, has characters from other books in the series, and moves along at just the right pace. It tackles tough subjects and brings home a HEA.
I’m a big G.K. Brady fan and this book is a reason why. I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
G.K. Brady
What happens when the life you are living crumbles around you and you realize you have no one to blame but yourself? The growth of Beckett is awe inspiring and you can’t help but cheer for him to find his happily ever after!
There is a lot of action within the main characters lives that keeps the story moving. Beckett was hard to like initially, he was gritty and losing touch with himself. Paige seemed very stable having created her own business and making a name for herself, but all was not well in her marriage. I liked how they renewed their friendship and learnt to trust.
My only request was that the book could have been proofread a little more. There are missing words and phrases such as “I resemble that remark”
Taming Beckett is a great read that grabbed me from the first page. The story basics are as described in the book blurb. It’s a slow burn romance that takes a lot of time to build the relationship between Paige and Beckett, so it feels completely genuine. These characters have wonderful chemistry as friends and as lovers. The writing is great and the story held my attention all the way through. I loved it. 4.5 stars.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader copy of this book.
** spoiler alert ** Beckett’s life is on a downward spiral. Paige’s marriage has gotten stale. Both are hesitant to trust. Will Beckett get his life together? Will Paige learn to trust her heart?
Loved how these two built a friendship before diving into the romantic side. I loved how seeing Beckett slowly evolve over the story and change from someone who wasn’t very likable to someone that I fell in love with. I didn’t blame Paige for being hesitant, but loved when she finally took that leap and allowed herself to completely fall. Good read!
This story was fantastic!
It was a wonderful friends to lovers romance. It shows how a bad boy can change and get the good girl. There are some bumps along the way to Andie and Brady’s hea. I loved this story! The banter between them was very entertaining! Taming Beckett is a great debut novel! I can’t wait for more books from G.K. Brady!
In this story, NHL star Beckett Miller falls from grace and loses almost everything. He hires real estate agent/former college friend Paige Anderson to sell his home. Paige begins to form a friendship with Beckett, meanwhile she is having marriage troubles. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult readers.
I liked Beckett. It is understandable how he ruined his career. I like that he owns up to his mistakes and grows up. I at times felt like Beckett was being portrayed as older than thirty-two-years-old. Having worked in the construction industry, I could relate with Paige. I enjoyed her character. She is hardworking and determined. I like that Beckett and Paige formed a friendship, and that she did not cheat on her husband, Adrian Paulson.
TAMING BECKETT was a good story, but it didn’t always hold my attention, and it sometimes felt slow. There are some valuable life lessons. Paige and Becket have great chemistry and a solid relationship. They both have family issues that are resolved. I like that they make each other better people. I want to continue following the series. T.J.’s story is next in book two, THIRD MAN IN. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Parts of this were really good, other parts and crazy drama I could have done without. It still had those sexy parts, aggravation and frustration with the characters and even sweetness. Both Beckett and Paige disappointed me at points in this book with their attitudes and actions. Still, this was a pretty good book since the author was able to get those emotions out of me while I was reading.
A story of a former bad boy NHL player who is trying to redeem himself. This was a good story line, though I found it slow and long in some parts. I like that Paige/Andie and Beckett were friends for a long time before jumping into bed together. So they had the foundation of a good relationship. A good start to this series!!
Dropped like a hot potato
—>>> Consequences of Beckett’s fast-and-furious-brand of lifestyle keeps piling on. Somehow they meet again, as though destined. The chemistry has definitely been there between them since they first met in high school, and there is sweet repartee as they navigate the friend zone for a good half of the book at least. Are they meant to stay in limbo like this, or are they ready for something deeper, with mutual trust established this time, now that they have really taken the time to get to know each other so well?
Taming Beckett is exactly that; the journey of incorporating Paige into his life first as a social crutch and then a slow build of a supportive relationship when it is Paige’s turn to have her world fall apart. Good story told from dual POV’s so that you get a front-seat reveal of exactly how everyone is feeling and thinking. Beckett’s tirade in the office when he first sees Paige since high school was quite amusing!

An amazing debut novel about a playboy hockey player who dug himself into a hole so deep, I wondered if there was a crane big enough to pull him back out. When he finds Paige, a strong woman rediscovering herself after getting rid of her jerk ex, chemistry sparks, but more importantly, the couple finally begins to learn about themselves. Love grows as they figure out how to become the people they want to be. Complex, with twists and turns galore and writing that engages and entertains from the opening scene to the satisfying HEA, this is a story you don’t want to miss.
