When Brandon Drew issues an edict that his youngest daughter will not be allowed to make her come-out unless her elder sister secures the attentions of a duke, Miss Charlotte Drew is understandably horrified. As a confirmed bluestocking and dedicated spinster, she has neither the charm or the ability to attract the attention of a duke- never mind the inclination. Luckily, help is at hand from … hand from Charlotte’s friends and fellow wallflowers, and soon she is swanning around London on the arm of the Duke of Penrith. True, he is rude, proud, and terribly toplofty, but Charlotte assumes she can temporarily tolerate him for her the sake of her sister.
But as Penrith begins to pursue her with more ardour than Charlotte had anticipated, she begins to realise that there is so much more to the snobbish duke than she had first thought….
Hugh Landon Charles Abermale, Sixth Duke of Penrith, had no interest in courting anyone-let alone an opinionated Bluestocking. But when his cousin begs him to woo the shrewish Miss Drew, so that he might win her sister’s hand, Hugh finds himself reluctantly agreeing to the hair-brained scheme.
Miss Drew is everything that Hugh abhors in a woman; she is loud, opinionated, and decidedly unladylike…but she is also the most beguiling creature he has ever met.
With time running out, Hugh seeks to discover the secrets of Charlotte’s past, while desperately trying to win her hand. But what will his wallflower say, when she finds out that Hugh has been lying to her from the off?
Tamed by a Duke is a charming reworking of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, and is sure to delight readers of Sweet Regency Romances.

Good author. Be sure to follow her.
Charlotte is very intelligent and outspoken – something most men of the ton do not want in a wife. She believes she wants to be a spinster, but her father says that her sister cannot have her come-out until Charlotte snares herself a duke. The Duke of Penrith, Hugh, is a bit on the stuffy side. They have an altercation in which sparks fly, not knowing who the other one is. When Hugh’s cousin who is in love with Charlotte’s younger sister asks him to pretend to court Charlotte so that he may win her sister’s heart, Hugh reluctantly agrees. What starts out as a charade on both sides becomes a romantic story on the road to love – although a bumpy and highly entertaining one. Am looking forward to the next book in this series.
A clean story. Enjoyable even on the second reading.
This was my first book by Claudi aStone and I enjoyed it.
I thought the characters were well thought out and had a nice story to them. I love the way they met. I love that they both had a secret and reason for wanting to be together.
Charlotte is a strong, beautiful, smart lady who knows what she wants in life. That is till her father makes his wishes known. Then everything changes especially when you have to catch the attention of a Duke.
Hugh is proud, handsome, and determine to stay single. When he goes after Charlotte as a favor to a friend his life will change completely.
These two characters couldn’t be more different and yet so much alike. They are the perfect pair and when love happens to come along. Well, let’s just say these two have a lot to think about.
I found this book to be delightful and couldn’t put it down. A definite must-read on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
A different plot, that is very entertaining!
A clean romance with a well-written story that kept me interested to the end.
Enjoyed!
Entertaining, enjoyable and lighthearted. It reminded me more of an adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You than of Taming of the Shrew and since I love both, the movie and the play, I had a great time reading it.
Interesting characters, good descriptions and well written.
Clever!
Reasonably believable story line.
Enjoyed reading this.
Nice romance book to read.
I liked and going to get the next in series
I love these Mills and Boone stories (dukes etc) but incresingly find the authors don’t have good english
A Bluestocking and a Duke. What would the world come to? Charlotte was a confirmed bluestocking. Opinionated, outspoken and interested in things the usual lady would gasp at!
But in order to help her sister have her come out, her father demanded she catch the attention of a duke. Oh yes, so easy.
This was a delightful story of opposites attracting although there was some deception, secrets and humor combined to take the journey to the HEA! Not to be missed and really enjoyed!
Book one in the Wilful Wallflowers series a well written story with a very good storyline the story flowed smoothly across the pages. Miss Charlotte Drew and Hugh Landon Charles Abermale, Sixth Duke of Penrith’s story had me laughing at somethings as I read. I enjoyed this story and want to read more in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loved the fact that both the Duke of Penrith took a dare from his cousin in order to date Lady Charlotte’s sister and Lady Charlotte tries to catch a Duke to help her sister. In order for Lady Briana to date; her sister Lady Charlotte has to catch a Duke. They both are playing at trying to catch a mate but Cupid takes a hand.

Why is a plain spoken woman called a shrew? She is just honest!
I always love it when a book starts off with the parent telling his daughter she has a task she must do before her younger sister can have her season. So off she goes and with the help of friends does as her father wishes. Then fate goes and throws in a twist or two. This Taming of the Shrew tale was so cute Charlotte and Hugh were great characters and I had such fun spending time with them. I loved the ending and if you like regency romances this is one you should pick up. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
