Book 1 of the Talon Saga
In Julie Kagawa’s groundbreaking modern fantasy series, dragons walk among us in human form.
Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they’re positioned to take over the world with … take over the world with humans none the wiser.
Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.
Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon’s newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey — and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember’s bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him — and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.

I love this series
An underground war has been waging for centuries between the dragons of Talon and the humans of St. George. Ember is one of the latest hatchlings to begin assimilation. She must learn how to blend in with human society and keep her dragon side contained. But left in the human world, fighting against her dragon instincts, the human side of her …
I was excited by the concepts in this story at almost every turn, but likewise felt disappointed at each turn by its execution. Shapeshifting dragons? Check. An organization devoted to hunting them down? Also check! Using this angle to make the sole focus of the narrative a “Romeo and Juliet” romance… a bit uninspired, but still on board I …
This was an entertaining YA novel. I was actually a bit bored at first, though. But once it started getting interesting, it was an entertaining read. The characters are well-developed and the plot enjoyable.
It just lacked something that would have made it a YA phenomenon. But I enjoyed it.
This book has been on my TBR for so long. I have no idea why I waited so long to read it. I need the next one right now. I loved Ember. I would recommend this book.
I absolutely LOVE this book series! It’s basically impossible to stop reading after you’ve started, and the characters… I think I fell in love with them all but especially two of them.
Now let’s get serious. This series is very unpredictable, which obviously is good because really, who would want to read a book and be able to guess at …
I read this book a long time ago and had very little memory of it, so I decided to reread it. I’m glad that I did because it was surprisingly better than I thought and remembered it to be.
Albeit a slow start it was easy to jump into this story. I liked the build up and the originality it had with the dragons as well as St George as two kind of …
Talon is a great series for anyone aged 14 and up! Almost no cussing through the first 4 books and no detailed sex scenes! Perfect for those looking for an exciting YA read with lots of dragons!
This book goes outside the type of books I usually read, but I’m SO glad I brancjed out to try it. It’s one of my new all-time favorites (which, I’ll admit is a pretty long and ever-growing list) by a remarkably talented writer. I really loved this book and look forward to re-reading it since I’m sure there are nuances I missed the first time …
