From bestselling author R.L. Mathewson comes the sixth installment of the Pyte/Sentinel Series… everything that he’d always wanted and once he had his revenge, he would make her his.
Sam had resigned herself to a lot of things over the years, being the town joke, blacking out at inopportune moments, and living with a dog that hated her, but what she hadn’t planned on was suddenly finding five large men destroying her basement, looking for a tomb that she never knew existed. In one moment, her life changed forever, leaving her to wonder how she was going to make it out of this alive.

I had to re-read the series before reading this book because it had been so long. This story was a good addition to the series. There were several POVs (Trace/Samantha, Cain/Danni, Ethan, Jill, Kale, and even Joshua makes an appearance. This read almost like a soap opera.
I enjoyed Trace and Samantha’s story, but there were a few places that lost me. I had to read sections again to figure out what happened. There were a couple of things that didn’t make sense to me, like Trace chugging Coke without getting sick. I liked the plot of the main characters and enjoyed “watching” Trace discover the world around him, though it was limited. It was sad to see what he had to endure and how much he’d missed as the world around him transformed. The end of the story gave some semblance of closure with a taste of what’s to come. There were several new characters that I hope to learn more about in the coming books.
There was an abundance of adult scenes that I did skim/skip because I just want a good fleshed out story full of action. Adult scenes aren’t necessary for me to enjoy a book. The book’s pacing was steady and I enjoyed the read.
I love paranormal reads and this could have been a 5 star if it wasn’t broken down to 4 different mini stories which I am not a fan of switching thread to see who’s story I’m following. I did enjoy Trace and Sam’s story which was the main storyline for this new release, but would have enjoyed it more if the author kept it to just their story. Overall a good read, but now I will have to go read the other couples story to get their complete journey.
Quite Tragic Initially. Fun, Sexy & Unpredictable!!
Tall, Dark & Furious: A Pyte/Sentinel Novel Book #6
Trace has an awful & tragically brutal start to his immortal life. It leads to him not seeing his Dad for nearly 400 years. Samantha is a twin. Her brother always excelled at everything where she struggled to even fit in. She’s got an embarrassing affliction that causes her to pass out, it happens anytime she’s unduly stressed, put into a confrontational situation or gets frightened!! Coming across six huge men knocking a hole in her cellar wall, who then inform her they intend to kill her & that they’re there to uncover a dead body really doesn’t bode well for her consciousness!!
I must admit this book made LOL on numerous occasions. I found it quite hard keeping all the characters straight when the chapters switched to anyone other them or Ethan. I think I’d need to do an entire series re-read to reaquaint myself with the characters that aren’t the core family. Definitely enjoyable & worth reading. I’m looking forward to the next book.

I enjoyed this book, even though it turned out NOT to be Kyle’s story this time. (Though I’m really hoping good things really do come to those who wait). There are a few things that stopped it being a fantastic read, but not enough to bother me greatly.
I liked the basic plot idea and how the author had thought of getting around the issues of Trace being an inexperienced virgin. He did seem a little too mature for a man who’d had zero social interactions since the age of 16, but there was no other way for the story to work so – *shrugs*.
There was lots of different sub-plots within the main plot, which was great and made for one action packed and fast paced read. But, and this is really where that star was lost, all that extra stuff was at the expense of the relationship between Trace and Samantha being developed. It felt rushed and I needed to see more of them just being together forming that connection. I felt that I was “told” as often as I was “shown”.
Samantha and Trace were still wonderful characters, I adored them both. Whilst both of them are nicely developed, Samantha did sometimes feel like an amalgam of previous heroines. However with the huge cast of characters that is being built it is reasonable to expect some of them to be similar personalities.
It was great to get a tiny glimpse of two important characters that we haven’t seen for a while. Along with some of the new ones introduced in this book there are at least another 5 characters, to my mind, who need their own stories. So all I can add is “Get writing RL Mathewson!”
At least the main characters didn’t hate each other at first!
I found the multitude of side plots a little confusing, but overall I enjoyed the read and romance and characters.

“Good. Then you’re mine,” Are you freaking kidding me??? Again, I feel like a broken record lately, where the heck have I been? I know this is book 6 of this series but I am so glad I jumped in right here. Trace holy mother of heck and then her brother, and then another twist and then and then… just layer after layer.
I have read paranormal before. Several in fact but I have never read a paranormal that had so much depth, so much interweaving written in a way that just flowed off the pages. So many times I stopped to reread a section not because I was confused but because it totally blew my mind.
Tall, Dark & Furious describes Trace to a T. Trace is a Pyte, I have never read about one before which I thought was pretty cool. We do get the backstory to Trace which I am so glad we did. It brought so much to his character and understanding of his relationship with his father. And I probably would have been lost a little more than I was at times since I jumped in with both feet right in the middle of a series.
This is a very entertaining book. I don’t know how many times I was giggling with Trace’s mannerisms. His reactions to modern-day. Oh and the scene of “Where’s your man” oh you don’t have one well then I will claim you “Wife”. HA! I busted! Thank goodness my husband already knows I am insane. I read with headphones on with piano music playing so I can stay in the living room and read while he watches tv. So when I bust out laughing he just shakes his head. Every time he calls Samantha “Wife” you cannot help but giggle. That and that damn dog and Samantha. Dang traitor.
The only thing I would say is I want more of Samantha and Trace. Once I got around ⅔’s of the way through I realized the need for the back and forth of scenes and technically it is my fault for jumping in at book 6. So my recommendation for you is to start at book 1. It is just to good not to read. I will be.
First off let me say that I do love, love, love this series. I love the characters and the story line. I love everything about the story. Loved Trace and Samantha. I enjoyed revisiting past characters and getting caught up with them.
Now for what I don’t love about this book. I’m not sure if I’ve ever noticed this author doing this before. I don’t know if she didn’t use an editor this time or not. I know she didn’t use a proofreader. Story line aside the editing was terrible even confusing at times. The same words used 3 or 4 times in either the same sentence or 3 consecutive sentences. It just made for a terrible reading experience. At the end of the book it gives us a preview of the next one. I noticed she is doing the same thing with the next one too. I hope she gets someone to help or finds a less distracting environment to be able to write and concentrate on what she’s doing.
First off, I just started this series a couple of weeks ago….mostly because I was curious. I am not normally a big reader of this genera but I am a big fan of this author’s Neighbor From Hell series and have heard so much about this one from her other fans. I am so glad that I went back and read the first books before I began this one. This is not a stand-alone book. It is the sixth installment of a series and you really need to read them in order. In each book, you are introduced to new characters and a new storyline BUT you are also brought up to date on what is going on with the characters from the previous books. Now, as I stated I am not normally a reader of the genera but R.L. Mathewson creates such great characters and has a unique way with dialogue that I found my self totally plowing through the books to see what happens next! This newest book was no different. I devoured it and am hungry for more!
I really enjoyed this book. I have enjoyed this series. I guess I am lucky enough to remember books and their plotlines from several years ago. I didn’t have any problems following the storyline. I found it refreshing to see characters from the other books make appearances in this book.
This is Trace and Samantha’s story and what amazing story it is. Trace was born in 1649 as a Pyte. Before he could transform into his “monster” he tried to befriend a little girl from a shifter pack and he paid for it. For over 300 years.
Samantha is a doormat. People walk all over her. Even her brother’s dog, Charlie, doesn’t like her. This girl can’t seem to catch a break. Then when she thinks her life is going to come to an end, she is saved in more ways than one. She gets to meet the paranormal world up close and personal.
We also get to revisit some of our favorite characters from the past 5 books. Chris and Izzy are one of my favorite couples and I loved reading them in this book as well. I also feel that there are some big things to come about with Jill. I don’t think we have seen the last of her. I can’t wait until the next book!!
Imagine, that You are around 350 years burried. When You live again the world had drastically changed. It´s really something diffenrent. And You are supposed to make call to Your undead father? What the heck is to make call? Luckilly you have Your wife around, to help You. It doesn´t matter, that she acts really strange and wanted something so unussual as to ask her to be Your wife. But she is sweet and carring and makes Your days really sunny. Another great story from R.L. and I look forward for next one in this series.
4 stars…
Samantha is a nurse and has a problem with passing out, a lot. She is watching her brother’s psycho dog, and fixing up her grandparent’s old house. When she goes into the basement, she finds several men tearing down a wall. Trace is a Pyte and was buried alive in a wall. All he has wanted for over three hundred years is revenge on the woman that put him there. When he gets out, he kills all the men and finds a woman with a sweet smell there. Samantha has promised to get Trace away from there and keep him safe but it’s hard when he wants the people hunting him to find him. Can they make it out alive and keep the bad guys from catching them?
Very funny. Sexy. Secrets. The only thing was it kept confusing me by going back and forth between other characters. I read it as slow as I could because I didn’t want it to end.
Gah! This book was so good and flowed so well! I do recommend a re-read of the Pyte series before starting but even though I didn’t, it was still so good! This author is able to pull on the heartstrings while making one laugh out loud! I’m so glad to have this book!
