He should have left her and never looked back…….That’s not how things played out for Caine, a nearly one thousand year old Pyte, who should have known better. Instead of walking away years ago, he has been watching over the only human who has touched his heart. He stays to protect her, at least that is what he tells himself. When trouble finds her, he knows that he should just cut his losses … his losses and walk away, but there is no fighting the hold the child, who has become a woman, has on him. Now they are both paying the price.
Danni knows that she isn’t technically a Sentinel and is putting her life in danger every time she goes out on patrol. She isn’t worried, she has a job to do. It is the only thing that matters to her anymore and she isn’t going to let it go without a fight. Unfortunately for her, she didn’t foresee her ex-boyfriend selling her out to a Master, being captured, getting locked up and stuck in a room with the cranky Pyte. The same Pyte that broke her heart years ago and wont stop glaring at her as if their little predicament is all her fault.

I have this on Audible. Another great listen. Complex characters and plot. Kept me engaged until the end. Just when you think you know where the story is going there’s a twist. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Loving this series!
The following ratings are out of 5:

Character development:
The heroine: Danni – She is the human daughter of two sentinels and she works for the sentinels protecting humans from supernatural creatures who don’t follow the rules. When she was a girl, her parents often left her alone at the compound while they were out patrolling and on jobs.
The Hero(es): Caine – He is a Pyte and over a thousand years old. After being tortured by an entire town of humans when he was first turned. He had run wild all over the world and ended up being held by the Sentinels. While trying to escape he came across a lonely little girl and ended up befriending her.
The Story: Caine was always there for Danni as a child until she hit womanhood. At that point he stopped talking to her and left her to her own devices. They both worked for the sentinels but never spoke to each other.
A master vampire kidnaps both Caine and Danni with the help of Danni’s ex boyfriend Greg who wants to be turned into a vampire. They want Caine to either turn Danni into a Pyte that can be used to create an army of super strong vampire’s or impregnate her to give them a Pyte offspring that they can mold to their uses.
The story in this book was pretty good and funny in parts, even a bit silly in certain parts. We also got more of the story of the Williams clan, Ephraim, Madison, Chris, Isabelle, Joshua and more. Like the previous few books, this one has great supporting characters. I loved it when Danni’s ex Greg got what was coming to him more than once.
Again this book had an awesome story and terrific supporting characters and I can’t wait to read more of this series. Unfortunately I don’t have any more of the audiobooks and can’t afford more for a while so it will be a bit before I can continue but I definitely will as soon as I can.
Also, I liked the narrator much better in this one, though the young kids voice she used for Chris was still disturbing to me. Though since he wasn’t the main Hero in this book, I could overlook it easily enough. I also realize how hard it must be to come up with different voices for each character when there are so many supporting characters. So I give her props for that.
Audiobook & ebook review: Very good story with plenty of smexy scenes. Not for anyone under 18 years. Conflict and fighting too. Cale and Danni’s story is interesting and entertaining. The narrator did a fantastic job!
Again, I enjoyed the listen. It was entertaining, interesting and romantic.
Though it’s hilarious how delusional Caine was regarding his feelings for his little girl once she grew up.
Where can I find my own pyte or sentinel?
I love this series, and whilst this could be read as a stand alone I would recommend reading all the books to best enjoy it. Caine and Danni are an amazing couple, though there were plenty of times when I wanted to smack some sense into Caine. Thankfully he kept most of his stupid ideas/opinions to himself, so at least he wasn’t as thick headed as Chris was.
We get to catch up on characters from the previous two books and I’m hoping that some of these will eventually get their own books. There is plenty of action both of the hot and horny kind as well as the evil plot and nasty villain sort. Despite some typo’s the story really drew me in and held my attention throughout.
I can’t wait to read the next book.
Yeah I thought Chris was a hard-a**ed, cold hearted ba***** he has nothing on Caine. At times though I wasn’t really paying attention to Caine or Danni I wanted to know what happened to that certain character from the last book and see what their situation was, I wasn’t pleased with it in this book either, I wished it had turned out different. Caine even though he tries so hard not to care he’s possessive and will protect Danni at any cost, “what the eff did you do to her?” he roared, turning to attack him.” Caine at one time has a one track mind like a caveman bringing home his wife:
“Good, the faster we get the hell out of her the faster-”
“I can eff you into oblivion,” Caine said.
All these Pyte/Sentinel men are protective and possessive they’re all damn cavemen, “you belong to me, Danni,” he bit out evenly as he pressed another tender kiss against her moist lips. “And I protect what’s mine.” This was the first book I saw one of these alpha men get jealous and it was funny, “you thought his voice was sexy?” he practically spat out as he moved to go hunt the ba**** and kill him.” I’m looking forward to the next book hoping that I get the closure I want with a certain character
