Having recently come to terms with her psychic gift of communicating with the comatose, all Kat Parker wanted was a bit of relaxation and to replace her broken cell phone. But her uncle’s death reveals a new and potentially dangerous wrinkle to her abilities — she can see and talk with the dead.Phoneless, fed up, and fearful for her sanity, Kat is still determined to help her uncle. Discovering … Discovering he had more than a few secrets, she embarks on a treasure hunt for the one object she believes will help him rest in peace. Standing in her way is the CIA, a Mexican drug cartel kill squad, a group of mask-wearing gang members, and a wild alligator determined to eat her pet turtle.
As things spiral out of control, the absurdity of it all has Kat wondering if she hasn’t already gone insane, if she’ll be forever saddled with babysitting her uncle’s spirit, and if she should even bother to replace her phone.

This book had a rambling plot that took a while to reach a conclusion. It could have been better if someone did some serious editing to eliminate the tangents to the plot. The alligator episode should have been completely dropped from the book. It detracted from the main story.
I started to loose interest. Some of the things seemed too far fetched
A good read
So many crazy things happen in this book! Funny plot. Burglary and stealing cars! Murders and ghosts! Vampires and alligators!
A wild ride.
okay. if you combined lucille ball, carol burnett and stephanie plum you would get kat. not even finished and i can say it is so absolutely hilarious and fun and action packed you will absolutely love this book. snappy (he needs more veggies and less filler food please.) and all the other off the wall characters are the bomb.
This book reminded me of a Stephanie Plum book and had me laughing at times. Pick this one up, the characters are great with a great story.
It was a pretty good book although I almost quit reading several times at the beginning. I felt the lead character was portrayed as being pretty stupid and ditsy and didn’t think anyone could really be that dumb. The second half of the book was much better. I enjoyed the twists and turns it took before finally revealing the unexpected ending.
Entertaining
Really fumb. No plot whatsoever. I don’t recommend this book.
Great story. Thrilling and funny all the way through.
Like things that make me laugh.
Read the whole series. Waiting on the next book.
too hard to follow didn’t finish it.
Thinking of the section that included an alligator still causes an audible guffaw.
There was mystery, presented in a different way, with humor and great characters.
This is a rediculous book about a certifiable goof up. This is worth the read
enjoyable made me read the next novel by k. l. phelps
Unusual paranormal book which takes about 1/3 of t he book to understand what is going on. I did enjoy the characters and plot line and am now on book 4 to see what is going to happen
Interesting
Kat Parker can talk with people in comas and with ghosts. She lives with Jonny, a vampire with memory loss, and is friends with Damian, a police detective. Set in Houston, Texas, “Talking With the Dead” is laugh-out-loud funny even while the plot is fairly serious. Kat finds out that her uncle Jimmy Wellpepper has died, and he turns out to be the first ghost she can communicate with. But after Jimmy’s death, Kat is suddenly being watched and followed by three different groups: the luchadores gang, the Panama Jims, and the CIA. Well, sort of! Supposedly Uncle Jimmy left Kat something valuable that each gang wants. The comedy of errors that ensues is original and vastly entertaining – especially the pet turtle, Norman no-neck, the magic alligator, and stolen doors. The book is a terrific read.
