The year is 1935, and Rose Waltham is refusing to marry the suitor that her father has chosen for her. She weaves her tale of marriage to a man as her duty, hoping beyond hope that her life will be one of joy and excitement.
But as Emma settles into her life with the Earl, she discovers that not everything is as it seems. Life is quite a bit more ordinary than she had expected. Until the night of the ball where she met Count Alexander Mortonov…and everything changes.
Who was this mysterious Count? And why could she not stop thinking about him? Torn between her duties and her heart, Emma must fight to discover what life she will choose.

A story with nice story line and plot. Well described characters. A historical romance but the earl was not my cup of tea. He treated his wife very badly. I am not into cheating, and she cheated on the earl but everything has two sides to it.
A nice read but it did not captivate me as much as I had hoped.
Enjoyable read.

This is my first book by Eliza McGrey and I am happy that I have discovered her.
While the storyline of a woman being bethrothed in a business deal with her father is not new, the way Ms.McGrey wove a story within a story was unique. When Rose is told by her father that she must marry a much older man that she does not love, she escapes to the attic and discovers the journal of Emma who was also forced into a loveless marriage. Emma’s journal captured the heartache she felt and her delight at meeting her husband’s friend, Count Alexander.
I won’t spoil it by giving you any more details. I will just say that once I started this book, I could not put it down until the end…and what an ending it was!

I loved the hidden mystery of this book. I love the connection between the young girl and the reading of a diary she finds in the attic. I wasn’t happy about the affair that happens, because I believe you should remain faithful to your spouse. I was sad that she felt trapped in a loveless marriage. I’m glad that the Marquess was able to find a way to release his bride to find happiness with her beloved. I do love happily ever afters. I’m glad the young girl was able to convince her parents of the importance of marrying for love and not just for status. This is a very well written book. It may not be suitable for some audiences. I do love reading books by this author, because the characters come alive and I find myself wound up in the story!:)

A different style of book to the usual. The link between two time lines with an interesting twist was fascinating. Well worth plowing through the initial slow moving and slightly puzzling beginning to get into the grip of the novel. This was the only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating!

I requested an ARC of the book because I love historical fiction and I knew that I would enjoy it and love to share my thoughts with others out there wanting to know whether or not they should buy a book. I loved this one. It had everything I love for in a story. Great plot, wonderful characters who are strong on their own and amazing together. There’s drama, chemistry, some suspense on what will happen, and love. What more could you want? Must have for not only historical romance lovers, but all other types of well. Take a chance and buy this book. you will not be let down.

This is a very interesting book. It’s more of a story about a story. That said, it was a good plot and wonderful characters. The writing painted the pain and suffering felt by the main character Emma. The struggle she had to live with being in a love less marriage forced upon her by her father. What happens one night at her first ball with her husband changed her life forever!
The year is 1935, and Rose has just been told by her father that she must marry a man of his choosing. This man she detests, and she is so distraught by this news she escapes to her childhood comfort place, the attic. While in the attic Rose discovers an old journal and some letters, which she begins to read. She is caught up in the plight of Emma and her husband the Lord Shepparton over a hundred years prior. As she reads she learns of Emmas efforts to make her marriage work despite her feelings, and the constant rejection she faces from her husband who suffers from a medical condition which leaves him in a great deal of pain. All of this changes when she meets a good friend of her husbands, Count Alexander Mortonov and she suddenly realizes what she has been missing and yearning for. As the story progresses Emma becomes more and more conflicted and confused. When Rose finishes the journal she still must face her own dilema. The plot is wonderful, the story hard to put down and the characters very well drawn. I loved the story and the ending as well.

“Tales of the Marquess: An Unwilling Bride and Russian Count Love Story by Eliza McGrey is a tale of longing for romance instead of dutiful behavior….a tantalizing 100 year old journal …..and forbidden desires…..all of which make for a marvelous read! MUCH enjoyed! An honest ARC review.
I liked this book. It started out with Rose finding a Emma’s journal in the attic. The story then describes Emma and what happens in her arranged marriage. Emma is looking for love in her marriage but can’t find it. Love finds her in an unexpected place. Alexander is all she was looking for to love. I enjoyed the story of Emma learning about her emotions and how she kept trying to do what was right. I liked that the story had a HEA, even when it looked like that wasn’t going to happen. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a clean regency story.

This story shows how history could repeat itself if you are not careful. Rose Waltham’s Father has picked out a man for her to marry but Rose wants to marry for love. Rose hides in the attic and finds a diary from a woman called Emma who had been forced to marry a man who did not love her Emma meets Count Alexander Mortonov whom she falls in love with. What happened to Emma and Alexander and can Rose find a way to get a happy ending? I enjoyed reading this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Rose argued with her father about marrying a man close to her fathers’ age. Her father was bound and determined that she would marry the gentleman. Rose ran to the attic and found the journal of Lady Emma Shepparton and the question she asked her mother about loving her husband. She found love but the question is did it bring her great joy or break her heart? To discover the answer u have to read the book, for Emma’s’ answer and Roses’ answer. It was hard to get into this book and it was hard to read for me because it’s told only from Emma’s view. Received it free for the purpose of reviewing it.
This was a very intriguing regency romance. Emma must marry the Earl that has asked for her hand, even though he is older, a widower, and in poor health. An interesting turn of events and outstanding chances keep you turning the pages.. Ms. McGrey developed some Great characters. Wonderful, but surprising twist, ending. Vicki from Wyoming

I had a love/hate relationship with this story!! I really enjoyed the story and how it all plays out in the end! And I found myself hurting for Emma and Rose due to their arranged marriages. But I hated how the Earl treated Emma and I really didn’t care for the affair between Emma and the Count, while she was married to the Earl! But the ending was a really good one! This was definitely a story that will keep you on your toes!
